Good to hear from you! I may keep my eye out for the Laurie King book. I often check for Stephen King books when I am shopping thriftstores...on the occasions when I am lucky enough to find the book section alphabetized, I will see Laurie R King books on the same shelf, but I had no idea of she was any good. Now i know 🙂. Anthony Bourdain's death saddened me as well. It was a reminder that we can never know what another person is dealing with. 😔 I am sorry it affected you so deeply, but am not sorry you got so much joy from his work & writings. You put so much heart in your videos. Thanks for being so real & open. Take care.

I was surprised by how well written The Beekeeper's Apprentice was. I went into it expecting it to be full of cliches and bad dialogue, but it's actually very well written and worth trying.
It took me years to get over Anthony Bourdain's death, but now when I think of him it's with happiness rather than sadness. I'm glad that I liked Kitchen Confidential even better this time than I did when I first read it, I guess I'm old enough to appreciate some of the things that went over my head the first time.
I hope you have a great weekend!

Good to see you again John, the Beekeepers Apprentice looks interesting. I just may have to go get a copy. I hope all is well with you 🎉
Have you ever thought about doing a, Q&A book tube video? I’ve seen some book tubers do these at a certain amount of Subscribers.
Just a thought, keep up the great work 🤝🙏

The Beekeeper's Apprentice is worth trying, I went into it expecting to be disappointed, but I was surprised by how good it was. I haven't thought about doing a Q&A video but it might be something to try in the future. Have a great weekend!

That's too bad about "In Patagonia." Sounded like it had potential.
I've never read an X-Files book, but my enjoyment of the series sometimes hinged on my capacity to suspend disbelief about the phenomenon being investigated in a given episode. Homicidal chameleon people sounds like it probably strays a bit too far into silly territory for me. 😂
Gotta confess I never really knew much about Anthony Bourdain. You've made me curious to learn a little more.
Well, interesting commentary as usual. Hope you're having a nice weekend.

I think that Grant must have written the X-Files book under a very tight deadline, it reads as though he had to rush through it. I'll agree that chameleon people sounds pretty silly, but I think it could have been interesting if Grant had handled it better, maybe given some kind of scientific basis for what was going on.
Kitchen Confidential is a good place to start if you're interested in Anthony Bourdain. I realize now that I didn't really explain in this video that it's a memoir of his years working in kitchens in 70s and 80s New York and all the debauchery that he and his fellow cooks got up to. He was incredibly straightforward about some of the things he saw and did, so it's a bit dirty at times and there's a lot of drug use, but it's a really interesting look into what it was like to work in restaurant kitchens at the time.
      Have a great weekend!

John, great update! I also didn’t like Goblins. I have read several of the x files books. I like the Kevin J. Anderson ones the best.

Thank you. I think Kevin J. Anderson's X-Files: Ruins is the only one of his books I've read so far, but I liked it. I have a couple of his Star Wars novels I want to read, too

you see, a *lot* of people who currently live in the Patagonia are descendants of European immigrants and common Chileans and Argentinians because, you know, the selk'nam were genocided

This is the first book I've read about Patagonia, so I'm not familiar with the history of the region. I don't know much about the history of South America, it's something I want to learn more about
