I am the very proud owner of a 2009 Portfolio just like this one. It had 20K miles when I bought it and I thought I would cry when it rolled over 40K. It is such a joy to drive you just can't help yourself. I have replaced all the air suspension. Don't feel too bad considering the sticker was $118K. Thank goodness I didn't pay that. I'll never part with it.
I have a 2005 XJ8L, 169K miles and still running strong. 5000K up keep and repairs in 15 yrs is amazing. I will keep it till it dies...and still looks new.
I've had an 08 for 3 years, swapped the air suspension for coil overs, and after that the car has been bulletproof. I'm tracking at 148,000 miles with no problems. Everything works. The $1000 brake job kinda sucked though, but that's any eurocar.
Probably a good call with the coilovers. From what I hear, once the air suspension is sorted, the rest of the car is more reliable than most would think
I used to work at Jaguar Land Rover in my early 20's as a tech, had a chance to scoop one of these up and boy do I now wish that I did. Got talked out of it cause it was "unpractical" for a young guy to own one of these... They're classic.
I have a 2004 Jaguar xj8 230k miles leaking everything but give me 30 mpg On the freeway because of the tuning and parts it has.. 70k miles driven in 2 years for 6k was money well spent
@@HighMileageReviews there is no issues with the car it’s just the pan that’s was not a great design and I’m about to fix it and a plastic coolant part that’s I will replace
Ah, air suspension on older cars. I remember an older E-class that had it at a mechanic's shop where I was working. The front bags were fine, but the back looked like it was #stancelyfe
@@HighMileageReviews Which is why I bought a 2006 XJ8 VDP LWB, 4.2. Mine is on coil-overs, has 81,000 miles, a very nice car. I live in the US, the car was originally imported to Canada so has a metric speedo, I could do without that.
I like your style! However, how is this a third generation XJ, as the third generation XJ (series III) was from the 80's? Then came the XJ40, X300, X308, etc.. blabla😁
Wow, major slip-up on my part haha I'm not actually sure why I said that...I think I had a stroke somewhere along the line when writing my script. Good catch!
@@MotorScotti This is the third generation. Series 1,2, and 3 (gen 1) XJ40, X300, and X308 (gen 2). Then X350/X358 and I would argue the X351 would be in this group as Gen 3.
That's very little miles for these beauties. These reliable V8 engines are capable of very high mileage. Highest mileage one on sale right now in the UK has 350k+
@@HighMileageReviews Haha Yeah they are good reliable cars bar the suspension. Most XJR drivers over here are older gentlemen so they aren't really thrashed to their full capability
I'm 19, I bought a salvaged 2008 xj8L last year on my birthday. It wouldn't go over 40mph and would overheat if you turned the AC on. I've completely rebuilt the car from the ground up and I've got a ford cobra supercharger sitting in the boot. Going on a year now, and still going strong, I aim to finish this car and add the modern quality-of-life features majority of cars have on the road today. (Backup cam, bluetooth, android Auto etc) it's been a journey, an expensive one, but any dream is a dream nonetheless, aim for it!
I have an 09 xj with 140k miles. Had the CATS air suspension deleted. Rides like a dream. In my opinion this is one of the most beautiful cars ever made by jaguar. Even with the few problems they do have I believe they're still worth going after if you find one.
My X308 Super V8 got Emerald Green, what I have read , 8 layer Paint. So when dark /cloudy the Car looks Blue, but in sunshine ...Sparkling dark Green !
PS. The air suspension has never given me a ounce of trouble and using only Jaguar only fluids and buying my own parts through wholesalers is the secret.

Ruined? Leapers were offered on the XJ for decades, and the body style hasn't changed much over the years. I think it's still appropriate. My all-time favorite Jaguar. I wish they were still producing them in this body style.
Agree. I much prefer this style over the redesign that followed
