The 10bb/100 of rake its a big issue, Charlie downplayed it (bcs he obviously can beat it) but its a big problem for the vast majority of winning players. I have tried 6 months (over 100k hands) at GG NL100 and only after rakeback I was able to be barely profitable (I was beating the game for 5.8 bb/100).

Mate, that's amazing, spent 2 years in Asia with my (now wife) GF in 2008-2011 and now we have 2 kids we always talked about doing it again! Huge respect to you for braving it with the kid, but you will have memories for your lifetime, so well done!! Honestly, I have friend who has done it too before his kiddy started school, hard but worth it he says!! I watch from time to time to carry on my learning along with my study time. Im just a rec player who wants to improve so i tend to play micro and then a $20-30 Sunday night game whilst flirting with cash games. Just finished Kill Phil and Kill them all (but re reading kill them all lol) . Anyways, i wouldn't comment normally but I'm super interested in your journey whilst working and how you get on with the family. I have a current work friend in Asia as i speak doing the day job like me, they stay 3-6 months a time in a rent and honestly its a dream! Take care, enjoy the good times, learn from the bad and you will all look back on these years forever, so again, well done for taking the leap and enjoy it!! P.S its been a while but the Gilli's are amazing, Meno was fab and chill with an absolutely amazing coconut milkshake :) .

I play a very similar style and crush 50NL. Right up until I reliably rip my bankroll into slots everytime 🤷‍♂️ I know enough about theory stuff to keep up without really studying, I understand the concepts for the limit I’m at at least, however the pure exploits destroy because people play very predictably and have trained themselves to try and replicate the same things. I had a debate with my friend a while ago when I showed some crazy lines and even explained “This person will see what I’m about to do as I’m a fish, this is what a fish will do with a value hand” - it was something like a min raise in a 3 way pot OOP with little equity because they chose a sizing similar to the hand where 88 was on the turn.
Then I potted river after they called flop and turn and they just fold.
The reason I do these sort of whacky things and they work at ridiculous rates is because I know how I view it when it happens to me and how uncomfortable it is and I realise that I really don’t know the correct responses or how to really balance my range on the spot vs a goofy play, so I end up saying “they are a fish and it’s probably value” or something like that. So I’ll find a way in future to incorporate that in a smart way.
Even things like min 3 bets IP preflop are annoying. You open CO with K9off and someone on button min 3bets you and all you think is “I remember hearing that I have the right odds to call and try to realise equity” however if the IP person plays adequately aggressive you just don’t get to realise and you end up in rubbish spots a lot because your not calling down K9 on a KQ5 board for your stack often enough.
A big thing right now I’m playing with is check raising small in 3b pots OOP when the board is like 889 - or 10,9,6 etc - there is just so many cards on turn you just get to bluff and win, however the amount of tank folds I’ve had on flop from doing this is insane /- since everyone seems to range bet 30% and I raise to 100% pot just about they are folding near 75% - it’s printing atm. Then if a scare card it’s turn, let’s say it’s 889 with two diamonds - when a diamond hits turn like a 5 - I’ll usually bet a size that’s really annoying like 30% - I expect any slowplays here to just raise now except boats and it looks stupidly like value on my part. If they call I’m likely overbetting river. How do you feel with an overpair when someone min raises on 889 - flush and some straights hit turn and instead of your opponent trying to blow you off, they bet 30% then rip river. I expect AA with the A diamonds to fold here at way too high frequency. I don’t really care what combo I’m holding to do this.

I havent been in the poker world for a while now, i dropped off around the pandemic as i didnt have a cardroom to go to, i was under 21 in the us so i couldnt play online and i figured poker is a lifestyle only a few people get to live off of and to think that i would be the few that could is just a bit delusional so i dropped poker out of my life. I recently came back to it after seeing a wpt game on a tv screen at the bar i work at and when i was talking to a regular and i told them i gave up on the dream and they agreed its probably a wise decision, but we talked for hours about poker, which got me back interested in poker. Anyways one thing that i remember was that in 2019 you had a godly run, i dont know how many tournaments you played or how many bullets(although i would love to know the details), but whatever strategy you used made it so that you final tabled every tournament you made cash in, again i don't know how much money you made from tournaments that year but you definitely good enough to set yourself up to final table, even if that meant busting bullets. If it werent for the pandemic i would probably have been aspiring to match that performance, i hope that i someday do. Imo your underrated

Admittedly I haven't watched a lot of Charlie's content, so I'm sure there's a lot more to it, but it seems like he's able to win insane amounts of money by simply attacking any sign of weakness. Pretty much every play I see him make is just bluffing when someone checks a board they shouldn't or bets too small. People are nits and don't like putting in a lot of money with marginal hands.
