Very sensible advice for those who have a lot of plants. Thumb up! If you have just a few plants, you can be adventurous, and choose the ones which Ashley finds difficult. When you have success with plants others find impossible, you feel good! I have one example in my video.
It's great to feel like a normal person, isn't it? I'm not getting any more plants that need a grow tent, Ikea cabinet or Amazon-like humidity to grow in my house.
I bought a small Monstera Thai yesterday off the Walmart app feom Costa Farms. I am praying its beautiful and stays warm enough on its trip to Michigan
My daughter ordered mine in July from Costa Farms also. It was quite small and sat fairly dormant for the first couple months. I did lose the largest leaf but it has rebounded nicely. I also changed the soil to something more chunky to help give the roots some aeration since they are prone to root rot. Currently the second fenestrated leaf is coming out. It also sits in an Ikea cabinet but I know in the long run that's not realistic. Excited for you!!!
I spent $30 on a beautiful Camo Homalomena at grocery store. It had at least 8 large leaves. It was in a 3 1/2" pot hidden in a fat cachepot. That tiny bit of soil with large leaf surface dries out FAST! I missed one day and poof! Poor plant dried up so fast. If your store gets that variety and you are tempted, watch soil moisture closely.
I don’t do well with Alocasia Frydek…I love it but I’ll kill it. Burros tail, nope…I’ll kill it but I can grow Hoya like crazy. My daughter will be traveling home this week. I am giving her 90% of my Anthurium collection because I just can’t size them up, I think I am under watering. So on the topic of Anthurium, people have been posting finding Anthurium Doc Block at Home Depot. I don’t think they’ve made it to Tx as most of the people posting are from up North. NJ was the last post I saw. I think someone in Michigan posted they found one as well and all of them have some pretty big leaves. 🤷🏻♀️ I would love to find a Doc Block. That variegated Dracena was so beautiful!
Great alternative advice Ashley 😊and I agree with all of your choices. It’s funny because I struggled with a lot of your same plants ugh. I try it 3 times if I’m in love with it, if it doesn’t work out after that it’s done for me😂
my painted lady when i bought it was beautiful but over time the color faded down and now all the leaves are a solid green only the new leaves that come out have the beautiful variegation but even then after afew weeks the variegation goes away also under a grow light
i’d have to disagree on the spider mites claim for syngonium. they’re just as “predisposed” as alocasia in my experience and i’ve owned a lot of both genus
The Philodendron Paradiso Verde variegation is NOT stable. People say heat is the factor. I had mine in a cabinet on a heat mat and it was still green. Such a waste of $$.
I would love to have alocsacia but I am not trying to turn my house into a humidity dome to keep them alive. Guess ill take Ashley suggestion and get Syngonium., but I really like alocsacia. I did recently save a very pretty white knight philodendron from Lowe's just hoping i can get some more white to come out. I struggle with with scindapsus and i dont understand why.
Go for clearance plants! I always check the clearance for rare plants and 99% of the time they are on clearance because they either have pests, which are easily treatable, or because they are not being watered correctly. All i do is give them water and clean the pests off and they bounce back like new!

I’m never buying another alocasia or Calathea 🤣🤣🤣 I just got an Albo Syngonium she’s soooooo prettty!!! Can’t wait to get her on a pole
I've been battling mealy bugs on my chocolate syngonium for months.😕 I'm about ready to toss it.
VERY INFORMATIVE. SO GLAD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO STRUGGLES WITH CERTAIN PLANTS. THANK YOU FOR SHARIG

I find all three of my staghorns easy care, but I adore all of my snake plant varieties too! I super struggle with P. Micans.
Great video thanks

You are my go to plant lady
Thank you Ashley I love that place ❤😊
yesterday home depot dropped the doc block anthuriums for 95 dollars...
my painted lady when i bought it was beautiful but over time the color faded down and now all the leaves are a solid green only the new leaves that come out have the beautiful variegation but even then after afew weeks the variegation goes away also under a grow light
Mine does this also.

I had a Pink Allusion (Illusion?) that came with spider mites to my horror, and have not had any issues before this one!
I have hundreds of plants. The only ones that ever had spidey mites were my alocasia polly and ivy. ❤😊
The prices are so good in your area.
Any succulents and Alocasas, I had green Burl Mark, which was a huge red ant attractor because of the sap they secret. Loved the plant not the ants.

@carolinebaines. You're 100% correct, same here. So disappointing.
Agree, although I live in FL and it did variegate once I put it outside in the shade
Soooooo I had two syngonium’s and I unalived them both!!! How do you care for them?

Rare becomes common before ya know it!
