I really do love how accurate the name “The Exploring Series” is. The close inspection of key details, different view points, and human examinations into ideas and goals add so much more than a verbatim reading of an article. I honestly hate it when he reads things verbatim in character because he doesn't have the voice to do multiple characters. The Volgun pulls it off really well with multiple distinct accents as well as audio effects, but I have turned off Exploring Series vids because of too much Verbatim

I like that this story gives us another side of the groups previously portrayed as dangerous. Ogier is still partially human, thus still sane. Javier was not raised deep in his own society and his mother encouraged him to be his own person, so he is not feral and cruel like the Children of Night in SCP-6666. Relavine is a history keeper who believes his place is to preserve and pass on the knowledge and wisdom of his people. These all seem to be pretty good people who are reasonable allies to the Foundation, and just want to help Modern Humans to survive, if possible.

@@undeadprinceofchaos3731 That is true, which in a way can make many SCP's that involve SCP 1000 "work" in the Kaktusverse Canon, by simply saying that the ones responcible were "Sane" members of them.
Also, the Red Star is most likly Titania, seeing as she is both connected to Stars and glowing Red in SCP 6666.
PS: Actully, the ones that the researcher sees standing in the distance is the trapped Army of them, that Hector keeps in stasis.

    • @undeadprinceofchaos3731
      @undeadprinceofchaos3731 2 роки тому +15

@@plinfan6541 Exactly! Maybe some of the sane ones managed to survive the flood and all the ones that aren’t underground with Titania are descendants of those survivors. That would explain all the other SCPS that are connected to The Children of The Night within the Kactusverse and how they were able to create all those bio-organic machines, because there’s two separate groups of them! Those who were turned feral by The Last King of Night, and those who weren’t and went on to create a more benevolent culture! It could be likely the “red star” is Titania, what with her glowing red and being a goddesses of starlight. Hopefully we’ll get a future article explaining more.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it, I've been following the kaktusverse since TES started doing videos on it, and I genuinely think djkaktus has the writing ability and talent for worldbuilding that he'd make a killing if he were to publish something monotary. The man is out here writing full blown novella length articles with nothing but the praise of people like us for payment (unless he has a Patreon I don't know about.)
And the fact that he went through some much in the year between putting out 6666 and this, the man is fucking committed and I have nothing but admiration for him.

Honesty I wish this WERE independently published, because I think it’s greatly held back by the SCP format, while gaining little from it.
Seriously, it’s like 99% new lore that is mostly disconnected from existing SCP lore (and the bits that are retained, such as SCP-1000, are heavily altered), and the SCP Foundation has little involvement in these stories besides serving as the source of exposition. IMO, if this were written as an actual narrative completely divorced from the SCP Foundation, it would be a much better story.

I mean I like his stuff, but he does a lot of name-dropping of shit that never gets elaborated on further, and also barrages you with a bucket full of proper nouns of which were never previously defined or explained. That's a no-no in fantasy, your reader is being taught an entirely new world, they need things explained to them like they're aliens, brand new to earth. Just because you took ten minutes to think up two dozen names, of which half will never be muttered again, doesn't mean you're some world-building genius. Your reader doesn't know what's important and whats not,

I think La Hire has a larger part to play, but honestly without a lot of information La Hire's story is rather sad.
At least from how I heard it, because wasn't La Hire a woman before being changed into a what-the-fuck by the fairy princess?
Because I thought the biggest thing about her curse was that she herself was unable to have children; Which, is why she related herself to the life of a knight. The curse plays on this desire by making it to where she still can't have her own children, nor is she even herself anymore. Just a creature that makes others have abomination children in some twisted ass genie wish.
I dunno, I'll re listen to La Hire's story to retain my bearings.
Edit: Nah, is a he. Though I will think the whole twist thing is viable as there's no mention of him having any children; And, the fey are vindictive little things.

While the foundation does contain all kinds of Anomalies, abnormalities are monsterous things that pretty much completely defy the meaning of normalcy as we know it, things that are so dangerous not only to humanity, but to the sanity of man kind. I heard the name "Javier" and I'm like "Les Miserables" so is he a "righteous hypocrite"? And then the story acknowledges the name origin and I'm like. "Welp, wasn't expecting the reference to be that direct." "Righteous hypocrite" in case you're wondering is an archetype in Victor Hugo's work. He's the one who wrote Les Miserables and "Hunchback of Notre Dame". It means one who's legally or culturally empowered to be a moral authority, but who lacks the personal morality to fully live the position. In the case of Javier, the letter of the law but not the spirit. In Les Miserables, Javier enforces the law but passes moral judgement on Jean Valjean, viewing him with contempt not compassion. He doesn't leave ultimate judgement of Valjean's crimes to a judge or to God and refuses to acknowledge the circumstances that brought Valjean there. Valjean meanwhile has never committed a crime that wasn't for survival of himself or another and otherwise lives a lawful and just life. In the end, Javier commits suicide out of his own pride. Valjean saved him from certain death, and unable to handle being beholden to Valjean for his life Javier ultimately commits the sin of suicide.

Javert was a complex villain. He was self righteous but was not a hypocrite at all, he was a zealot. He didnt break his own rules but truly believed in the letter of the law. He was like someone with OCPD (not OCD) in that he was obsessed with order, followed rules no matter what and perfectionistic at his work. He had been born in prison to a criminal mother, and had worked hard to not wind up like her.
His suicide was not because of pride but because Valjrans mercy shattered his worldview causing the ontological collapse of his moral universe. The letter of the law was in conflict with the spirit of the law. His inner crisis was the moral quandary that left him in. He must honor his conscience to let Valjean go because he is truly good, to do otherwise would be unacceptable. But in doing so he betrays the law (his only source of structure and guidance in life), and society, which is just as unacceptable to him. So had a psychiatric break.
Basically his Lawful Good algorithm broke. 😉
Textual clues from the book and the musical:
"to betray society in order to be true to his own conscience. That all these absurdities...should accumulate on himself, this is what prostrated him" (book 4 of Valjean, Les Miserable)
"I am reaching but I fall, and the stars are black and cold as I stare into the void of a world that cannot hold.
I'll escape now from this world, from the world of Jean Valjean. There is nowhere I can turn, there is no way to go onnnn...[splash]"
(from Javerts Suicide, in the Broadway musical)
