Great to see you too and thanks for stopping by. I miss chatting with you and hope to see you at CES is we don't cross paths sooner. Hope things are well with you and the family.
Great Vid Rick! This DJI Air 3 does have some huge upgrades and new features compared to the Air 2S. Snazzy looking drone i must say. Only pinch I have is this drone is too similar to the Mavic 3, Which I own.
Thanks a lot for the post and it's starting to feel a little like Western Australia here in here in Jersey these last few days with the temperatures around 100 degrees. The Air 3 is an amazing drone and one of the best DJI has produced. It includes everything you'll want in a drone with a price that might be able to fit into most budgets. Stay tuned for more clips this week. Rick
I always carry a set of ND filters with me on sunny days to knock down the glare. ND-8 through ND-64 work best depending on the situation. I'm sure we;ll see sets for the Air 3 showing up soon.
Not yet anyway. Not on Mavic 3 Pro either. They did a good job of allowing the 70mm to active track, POI & Spotlight- hyperlapse too. I personally want to see Waypoints allow switching to 3X and back - even if it requires stop/starting recording to do so. Here's hoping they continue to add use of it as they build on the multi-camera concept.
Thanks for the post and unfortunately the new Air 3 uses a new version of Ocusync (O4) so you won't be able to use an older version of controller - yet. There is a chance that DJI may update the firmware to accommodate this and I'll stay on top of it and post something on the channel if it happens.
You and me both! This one is the mid-sized drone to fly this summer and tops both of the Air 2 models in features. I'll have more clips posting this week.
I've compared it to other DJI Mini bags and it's the same. I think it's a good starter bag but I always opt for a hard case from Nanuk for all of my drones because of the travel I do.
Yep, they eliminated the second USB-C port on the bottom. You can use the single port on the new controller to charge it and transfer files to a PC but it has limited functionality beyond that. The challenge for us is that the wireless microphone won't work on the new controller - yet, but we're working on it. Stay tuned for more content this week, including some amazing APAS testing.
The kit includes a slew of printed manuals and I missed them in the top part of the case. I always like to download a soft version from the DJI site to be able to read them on the screen but you'll have all the manuals you'll need in the kit. Stay tuned for more content this week.
The one thing I have been looking high and low is the fact that there is a FOAM protector wrapped around the gimbal. I have found NO mention in the user manual and various videos I have watched. This foam protector needs to be removed, or you will get a Gimbal error! Some mention should be given to this fact.
It would seem that DJI has done a great job at incorporating the newest technology into their new drone (camera technology, long battery life etc). I wonder who will buy this other than total newcomers into the market or those seeing the need to upgrade from the Mini series. For those who currently own the Mavic 2 or Mavic 3 drones, I don't see it as having any advantage really given they have already spent a large investment in older drones. One thing that I find disappointing is the fact that the newer Occusync 4 means it's not backward compatible with older drones so here we go again with the need for another new controller. One thing this will do is lower the used resale value of older drones which I guess is unavoidable but not welcome to those selling older products. I have to assume one of the reasons why DJI introduced this drone is simply to maintain their dominance in the drone industry and help to keep buyers from going elsewhere for their purchases. This also makes sense if you assume that one day Autel may finally be able to actually deliver their superb drones but somehow I don't see that happening as they continue to limp along until eventual bankrupcy in the next few years. I will be interested to see your flying comparisons coming up.
I agree that this would be a great upgrade for anyone flying a Mini drone today or someone new to the hobby. If you're flying a Mavic product, it's not something to consider unless you really want the dual cameras. The O4 connection tech is both a good and bad thing. It does improve the connection strength and video streaming resolution but does eliminate the ability to use older controllers with the Air 3. I'll have a few more clips posting this week so be sure to stay tuned for those.
No, the Air 3 is a great travel drone but a little larger than the Mini 3 Pro so that's a consideration. The batteries and other gear you'll need to bring along is also a little larger so if it's a local trip, the Air 3 is a better choice. If I'm getting on an airplane, I always pack the Mini 3 Pro to save space in my carry-on. The image quality is amazing on both so that's how I decide which one is coming along on vacation. Hope that helps. Rick
I wasn't trying to be snarky with the reply but was trying to explain my decision on which drone to bring along based on the trip. It just got more complicated this morning with the release of the new Mini 4 Pro since a lot of the features are very closer to the Air 3 in a much smaller air frame.
Rick I have one question since I really need the obstacle avoidness from crashing my last with no obstacle avoidness avoidness. The mini 3 pro which has it. I wasn't able to get it due to availability. The mini 4 not yet released at the time of purchase. Did I make a mistake in buying air 3? Can I still learn it and be successful still at basically a beginner level with drones.Rick I have one question since I really need the obstacle avoidness from crashing my last with no obstacle avoidness avoidness. I am annoyed that the ND Filter Set was made a separate, $100 USD purchase - NOT included in either Fly More Combo - just as there is no charging brick, just the hub requiring ANOTHER $70 (65 watt) or $100 (100 watt) so on top of the $1550 cost you have another $170-200. I bought the RC-2 Fly More, but the Mavic 3 Classic includes these items, for roughly the same price. This is too expensive for most and people need to know these cash grab moves when deciding to purchase.
I agree, but DJI views these as accessories that some folks want and others don't. If they included them in the kit, they would have to raise the price and the folks that already had a charger or didn't use filters would have to pay for gear they didn't need. It's a bit of a catch-22.
@Dronevalley all true..they can easily rationalize it to sound reasonable. Bottom line is whether they sold Fly More as an add on kit or a Drone combo it ALWAYS had Filters (since 2019 Mavic Air 2 anyway) - its no different than selling a "base model car" that doesn't have floor mats. Or a 12v receptacle. Or a trunk light. Or a glove box light. Or a radio. Honda did it for years. A "DX" had no interior hood release - so batteries got stolen. You can take a thing too far, lol! Thanks Rick.
@@BlairAir I'm with you on this one and the challenge with any large company like DJI (and I've worked for a few of them) is that the Engineering division drives the product development and the marketing department drives the release dates, packaging and messaging. A lot of the times there is a wide gulf between those groups and opportunities are missed. I'm lucky to get a few of the DJI products early to test them but this is always very close to the release date so I have no impact on the packaging or what's included with the kits. If they wanted that feedback, I'd be happy to provide it. One other factor you need to consider. While the drone and controller are made by DJI, a lot of the accessories (memory card, car charger, home charger, filters) are not and come from third party partners. That make it tricky to include these items with the package on day of release. As a point of comparison, we produce our own car and home charger for DJI drones that are more powerful and less expensive than the branded one. I hope that helps. Rick

I can't help it whenever I open a new drone. This one is pretty amazing and I'll have a lot more content posting this week.

Love listening to you, talk about technology. You like the kid at the Kenny shop?❤😊
I have a quick question is it still necessary to do the satellite lock dance with DJI Air 3 along with other calibrations?
Love your enthusiasm, Rick. Mine will arrive on Friday. Thanks for the unboxing and your thoughts. Cheers from Wisconsin.
Did DJI pur remote ID or a light for night flying?
DJI sure has a winner here ! Well done Rick !
Great to hear from you Bill. Check your email about this evenings stream.
@@Dronevalley Could not find it.
Do you know which lanyard kit will work with the controller? Thanks
great one Rick, Thank you
Can I load 3rd party drone mapping software?
Beaut review Rick, thanks mate. You are excited hey LOL. All the best from Australia.

It'll be well worth it...the Air 3 is amazing and SO quiet in the air. Stay tuned for more clips this week.
@@Dronevalley is the Air 3 good enough for commercial work? I currently use my Air 2 for construction and real state
Thanks for your sharing, bought one...what kind of filter do you usually use? I saw a set of filter in Kase store, but don't know the effect.

Thanks, this is a pretty awesome drone!
I am looking forward to purchasing one. 👍🏾 I'm curious: Will I be able to use my current 100-watt charger for the charging hub?
Yes, absolutely it will work fine with the Air 3. As long as its more than 65W, you'll be fine so 100W is perfect. Thanks for the post.
@@Dronevalley Thank you. I always look forward to your reviews. 👍🏾
Tx, can we use 3x for 360 degree sphere? Coz that will give awesome details on sphere.

Looks simply awesome, Rick.
Thanks 👍 It is a pretty incredible upgrade for the Air series.
So if the mini 4 came out, what do you think would be different besides the remote and ocusyce 4?
Bigger sensor lower aperture, longer battery life,
I'll keep flying the air 2s for a while longer
Will the drone work with the original controller - can you buy just the air3 if you already have the original controller?
