    Master Wong, I am a 49 year old professional but has been interested in martial arts from the time I saw 36 chambers of shaolin. Your videos are very helpful and that once a six feet drunk men attacked me in the market place but thanks to watching your video I blocked his punch tan sau way and gave him a punch which knocked him to the ground. Your method is so clear cut , that day I was proud of my self. Master you are one of the best teacher.

    Tan sao was my favourite defensive move. As Master Wong said but didn't explain.. It's mainly used to lead the next combination of moves. For example you block a punch with a Tan sao, then rotate youre hand to become a hook and you hook the opponent's wrist like a Lop Sao, then that opens up combination directs punches to the face while pulling them into it.

    Hey Master Wong.
    From what I've been learning, my tan sao comes out from the center. Your tan sao seems to cut in from the other side (so for your right hand, it cuts in an almost chopping movement from the left).
    Is this just a difference in practice vs principle or is there something different that I'm not seeing?
    Much Thanks.

      Tan sau should come from where ever your guard is really shouldn’t it? Ideally
      But in my wing Chun training during the form the tan sau did come from the centre line
      But if you’re fighting someone way smaller your tan sau will automatically become placed lower .. I think every wing Chun technique is situational, and very non rewarding if misused

    Anybody know why Tan Sau have the hand facing up and open? Same with other hand forms like fook or biu. I sortve get biu cause you can catch the persons eyes but is there any special reason why it can’t be any other hand shape when doing it?

    Lets see some sparring against other arts to see how good it is

      Oh go ahead and do that please. You versus Wong, and do a livestream about it. Would like to see you getting your ass stomped in.

    • @ex0duzz
      @ex0duzz 10 років тому

      Wing Chun isn't meant to be used for sparring. It's meant to be used to defend yourself, ie to destroy the other person. It's like saying why don't you use Krav Maga for sparring. Shots to the eyes/throats/balls etc aren't really meant to be used in 'sparring'..
      It's like saying why don't you use real knives in 'sparring'. Because you will kill the other person. Pretty simple. And if you aren't using those moves, and if you wear boxing gloves etc, then it's not wing chun anymore. It's the same reason why it doesn't translate well into combat sports with rules, since all those rules just make wing chun useless.. so it doesn't show how 'good' it is in sparring. Wing Chun isn't meant for sparring like i said. Also, sparring doesn't show how good styles are. It just shows how good the person is. If you want to know how good/useful various styles are, then research the style/techniques and then do them yourself. Don't rely on others 'sparring' for you to decide how good a style is.. use your own brain/eyes and try it out for yourself. Take what works, and reject/throw away what is useless and then incorporate what you took into your own style and for your own uses.. that's a Bruce Lee/JKD quote/philosophy btw.
