Mine too. Even when he was very old with advanced dementia, my mother and I would play his Glenn Miller or his Tommy Dorsey for him, and he would immediately smile and hum along.

This brings back memories of the American 8th Army Air Corps in England during world war two. I was a young impressionable boy back then,, and I saw the Fortress's fly out on the raids over Germany. Many never came back. We saw the young American airmen on our steets and we heard their music - Glen Miller. Many went to their deaths, having the night before danced to that particular piece: American Patrol. Rest in Peace - we who saw them will never forget them.

My dad served in WWII with the 8th Army Air Corps in England. He was stationed in Kings Cliffe, close to Peterborough in England. So I grew up listening and enjoying the big band sound, especially Glenn Miller. He told me that while he was stationed there, the Glenn Miller Band performed at the airbase in Kings Cliffe and he got to hear them. I always thought it would have been so much fun to hear his music live. I just recently did some research and read that Glenn Miller's last live performance was in Kings Cliffe. Now I am wondering if this was the performance that my dad got to see and hear. My dad has passed away and I wish I had asked him if this was indeed Glenn Miller's last performance. Before he passed away, I did manage to take my dad to 2 performances of the traveling Glenn Miller Band. I do recommend to anyone that loves this music to attend if the band comes to your town.

When I was a kid, my accordion teacher handed me the sheet music for this song as my weekly assignment to learn. I loved it and the great rhythm of it made it much easier to learn how to play than many pieces. As soon as I was playing it smoothly enough, I suddenly remembered it as one I'd heard on the radio by the original Glenn Miller Orchestra. I looked up as many vinyl records of Miller's band as I could and soon I was picking many of the tunes up by ear. I've been a fan of Miller's music ever since and this great band from Sveriga does a fine job carrying on the tradition. Tack så mycket!

Always a crowd favorite. I play in a similar band that plays this same arrangement. We sometimes see youth groups wearing period dress and swing dance to this immortal piece. It is encouraging to know that there are groups of teens, in scattered pockets of the US, who are fortunate to have grownups exposing them to this timeless jazz and the dance steps that go with it. The amount of pure fun they have dancing to American Patrol, and many other immortal tunes like it, is immense. This is a superb band, and I like their side by side layout. Maybe we should set up the same way...

One of Miler's many A+ songs. I'm a wild of rock'n'roll. I remember the rock'n'roll "Big Bang" in 1955 (Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Bo Diddley).. But I'm still drawn to the big band music of the '40s.. It's my parents' music, but it always spoke to me.

When I was in high school band in 1963, I came home and told my father we played a really neat song today that our band director had written for us (this one). Dad smiled. "He may have 'arranged' it for your band, but that song is probably older than I am." Whenever I hear this song, I think of Bill Holston (our band director) and my dad. I still play trumpet and still play the song.

As my father's health got bad, he once joked, "If ever I sit still in my chair while a song like this (Benny Goodman-Sing,Sing,Sing) is playing, I'm probably dead." He loved all kinds of good music, and encouraged us to listen by giving us "record money" every month. He always kept the most modern stereo for the time, usually a massive piece of furniture by Motorola with a good turntable and extra needles. This reminded him of his time as a Marine in WWII, and it was his favorite (Korea era & Vietnam era not so much). No wonder it's called "The greatest generation."

Only thing I never did like about this arrangement: the trombones blatting out the ship's horn effects 2:00, but this is much better at making the sound blend than others I've heard.

I don’t know how to explain it, but the Scandinavian GMO has the sound of the original GMO just perfect to what it should be.
