    My modified jeep wrangler is down as I try to find the parts to rebuilt the engine. I have been looking for second vehicle and after watching a few of your videos I decided to get a 2015 Cherokee trail hawk. Thanks for showing me a fun second Jeep to drive and modify as I put my wrangler back together.

    Great video, as usual. Surveying the entire route and pointing out obstacles and lines taken.
    As a WK2 Overland EcoDiesel owner, I like watching YOU push the vehicle to the limit on these trails so I know just what to avoid.
    The diesel engine is fabulous for climbing and crawling. It practically idles up most obstacles. With QuadraDrive in 4lo and Rock mode (4-1/2" lift), this vehicle is a 🐐 for my purposes.
    Like you, I do push my vehicle, but avoid big rock climbs, except when cornered, which is why I like watching your vids :)
    I give my GC a 9.5/10.

    Glad to see you getting out there and being unique!
    Pro-Tip, 3:50 if the built JK hits their rear end at the bottom of a steep climb, there is no way you don't get hung up on your much lower rear end. A lot of it is watching the guy infront of you and KNOWING the differences between you and him. 11:00 I get wanting to push your limits...but fully wedged/turtled on rock ledges with PLASTIC underbody protection is an easy way to break stuff. (There is no reason to believe you had the clearance for that particular ledge)
    You just need to grasp the geometry involved on if you have the proper clearances for certain lines. Nothing wrong with taking a bypass, as opposed to holding up traffic for who knows how long to get out of a bad situation. You definitely need to learn how to take slightly better lines, as there are lots of things that just the slightest change in line makes soo much easier for us non-flexy guys. (and much better spotters could help, or knowing when not to listen to the bad spotters, when he freaks out over 'tippy' when it was never remotely close to tippy...)
    Also, i get that you are excited you can have ads...but please calm down on their spacing...and quite of bit of dead spaces to edit out. just my opinion.

      So, I love to try thing that others folks say can’t be done. Sometimes it goes my way, sometimes not. But as I always say. Better to try and fail then not try at all. Since you wheel in an unconventional platform as well, I suspect you may understand this.
      I don’t believe we held anyone up too bad this day as many of them seemed to enjoy seeing us out on the trail. And certainly I didn’t set out to get stuck. But the way my back end kept moving caused this to happen.
      And yes a great spotter is just as important as the driver. That is why I didn’t try hells gate on this. As I’m sure you know, you want the guy leading you up that to feel comfortable and experienced with the correct line.
      As I mentioned we didn’t have our full team with us this day so we were not quite at full strength. But again I’m so thankful to those that stepped in to help us out.
      A lot of folks get very intense about the specific gear I need or technical issues about the trails. While it’s often interesting most of that advice doesn’t come with an offer to pay for those recommended upgrades. I’m not sure you have realized this yet but we care more about the community and relationships formed along the way than perfect trail runs, lines, or gear. As such I expect we will continue to make friends, mistakes and memories.
      Good luck with your channel. Maybe We’ll bump into each other one day.

    I’m curious does yours have the adjust air ride like the overlander version does I just bought a 2017 grand Cherokee Overland, problem is it has 20” rims with 255/50/20’s so I need to ditch them and get the 17’s run a tire with a taller sidewall etc. I believe you know what I mean. I do notice with mine when I put it in the 4 x 4 rock mode I got like 6 inches more clearance than normal.

    • @ProdigalOverland
      @ProdigalOverland  2 роки тому

      Yes we have the air suspension. When it’s it rock mode it goes to off road 2 which gives 2 extra inches of ground clearance. You can manually put it to off road 2 in any mode as well.

  • @macmurfy2jka
    @macmurfy2jka 3 роки тому

    A few lines in there, could have been negotiated better. What did you think of the lower section. I actually found that to be the most technical section in my stock JKUR. No enough break over angle to just roll straight down those chunky rock steps. Had to use my flex to turn down all of them.

    • @ProdigalOverland
      @ProdigalOverland  3 роки тому +1

      The lower section was more than I thought it would be. But I was glad to be off of the fins! We made it down the last part without too much difficulty

    • @macmurfy2jka
      @macmurfy2jka 3 роки тому

      @@ProdigalOverland yeah, the fins certainly were interesting. When I did it, I didn’t have a spotter. Rolling over those blind crests in the trail certainly was nerve wracking. You just kinda needed to trust the big black marks it the rock and your tires. In reality you’re WK2 is probably better set up for the chunky stuff with all the ground clearance you get with you independent suspension. I’ve said before, geometry is nice, but for most people who off-road ground (not rock crawling) clearance is better.
      If I could lend any advice, if not using a spotter or not have a very good one, that practice of walking the technical lines is good but doing so with your arms out like you’re pretending to be an airplane (simulating your vehicles track width) is better. It is very helpful for me to visualize where my wheels are gonna be. Obviously this works better for solid axle vehicles as the track width doesn’t change but is still helpful for vehicles with full independent suspension.
      My father has got a WK2. With a small lift, smaller rims, a modest tire diameter upgrade, good underbody protection, and nice fabbed bumpers would turn that into a weapon.

  • @KMT15
    @KMT15 3 роки тому

    So I’ve noticed in my 2017 Trailhawk that the Quadra Drive 2 appears to only really function when not in 4 low. 4 low disengages traction control, which is what allows the front axle to use both wheels since there is no ELSD like in the rear. How I know this is I was stuck in sand out there and got out while still in drive, only 3 wheels were spinning in 4low

    • @srtabc123
      @srtabc123 3 роки тому

      To me that sounds like it was working. If a wheel is spinning freely the computer will apply the brake to just that tire to move the power to the other side that has more traction resulting in only 3 out of 4 tires spinning. The elsd uses an actuator to lock both sides together simulating a locker (it can still direct all power to 1 side or the other if it detects a rear wheel spinning) but the front should still simulate an lsd with the brakes. Limited slip is different than a true locker. True lockers would result in all 4 tires always spinning whereas the limited slip will direct the power to the wheel with traction. From what I’ve read the traction control doesn’t fully go off when in 4lo, it stays on to handle the lsd part.

    • @KMT15
      @KMT15 3 роки тому

      @srtabc123 3 роки тому +1

      @@KMT15 a picture or video would really have been really beneficial here, sounds like you might need a trip to the dealership then. A guy on the forums used alphaOBD to see his transfer case and rear diff lock values and in 4lo his t-case and rear diff we’re both fully locked in any mode whereas in 4high the t-case never fully locked front to back and the rear diff only fully locked in sand and mud mode. In the forum thread it also talks about traction control mostly affects engine power and not the braking. The wheels spinning is controlled by the braking system separate from traction control. Hopefully the link to the forum works here. It’s a great read if you like technical stuff.

    Great tour! I’m assuming you have the air suspension. Which mode do you ride with most of the time? I find the air suspension very bouncy in off-road 2, and sometimes I loose traction momentarily even at a crawl, so I tend to use Off-road 1 most of the time unless dealing with a clearance issue.
