- The Caro Kann Fantasy variation is one of the most feared variations to face with the Caro Kann Defense (in my humble opinion) so I like to exit most known theory with 3.e6 rather than indulging in exd4 and e5 lines in what I believe effectively refuted most Caro Kann fantasy players since everyone focuses on the main line. 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.f3 e6 4.Nc3 Nf6 and now 5.e5 Nfd7 6.f4 c5 7.Nf3 transposes to the French - Steinitz Variation
I'll pin this for people to reference, do you know if that's considered good for black?
@@ChessCenturion It's totally fine for black. The black position has been played by Carlsen, Caruana, Nakamura and other top players.
The main point is if you don't mind switching to a French then you can play this way as black.
That line transposes to the Bird.
@@walterbrownstone8017 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.e5 Nfd7 5.f4 c5 6.Nf3 is the French - Steinitz. It arrives at move 7 from the Caro-Kann move order because of White's f-pawn moving twice and Black's c-pawn moving twice.

I like e6 too. This variation is rare enough that I forget what I'm supposed to do and waste time figuring it out all over again.
Haha everyone plays the main e5 line so I find e6 catches lots of people off guard
Now audio is way better listening with my headphones. A good amount of noise reduction & much smoother audio.

I play the fantasy so this video was nice to see from the black side.
I find facing e6 to be the best method against the fantasy. Taking the pawn and pushing e5 is not bad at all, but there are many traps that black has to be weary of. Pushing e6 can oftentimes lead to French structures which I’m not a fan of so I try to steer it in a different direction. Very nice win!
Thanks Yon, I played the fantasy myself years ago and couldn't break 3.e6 so thought I'd play it myself!
Caro- Kann positions often transpose to French.
But they tend to be good french positions imo
