Charm is so strong against a dangerous damage dealer. Especially if they don’t have any other way to be effective. I like the concept of the monsters know what they’re doing, so if I run a Beholder fight in its lair, there are going to be NASTY telekinetic options for them to take advantage of.
I am guilty of always forgetting about charm effect lol. But whenever you run a beholder I always suggest taking chance partiall out of the equation but rolling maybe 1 or 2 eye rays and manually picking 1. That way you dont get 3 rays that might do nothing!
@@ThisCrits Depending on which source you look into, the Gas Spore can be extremely deadly for only a 1/2 CR rating...when it dies (only has 1 hp) it explodes in a cloud of spores in a 30ft radius and anyone caught inside has to succeed a Con save or take poison damage and become diseased. The kicker is that if a player is infected by the disease, they need a lesser restoration or their character will die within 24 hours of being infected...if that happens a new Gas Spore can spawn from the spores growing from the corpse. Makes it really tricky if you put players in a situation that puts them more than 24 hours away from salvation.
I used a beholder twice in my 3.5 game. Once while the party was lower level and not a real threat to him. Then he tracked them down because they did not uphold their part of the deal, which is why he didn’t kill them the first time.

You forgot to mention the most diabolical Ray of all; Ray Romano.
I mean I can kind of understand why everbody loves raymond.
Some might think this is a cheesy joke 🧀
I’ve heard the Marisha Ray is not without significance
@@JnJakewell done sir
One of my favorite beholder like enemies is a Gas Spore which can be quite deadly to an unprepared or lower level party
I have never seen the Gas spore! It looks like a really fun low level creature!
