- In today's video I visit the BIGGEST Fish & Chip restaurant in the UK. It's a branch of Harry Ramsden's right on the beach in Bournemouth !
I've had a lot of comments about eating too much fish & chips recently, so today I am going to have pie & chips instead!

Until you said at the end the collab stuff comes out Friday and Saturday I was thinking "Damn is this it? Gary does a flyby meet and greet" . Glad that's not the case. Looking forward to the collabs. Harry Ramsden who founded the fish and chips chain.He is the uncle of Sooty and Sweep puppeteer Harry Corbett . Gary of Gary's Eats making a cameo appearance on the video. Harry Ramsden was a great fish and chips until it went downhill.

I'm here from Gary's Eats. New Subscriber, Let's go! I have not been in Harry Ramsdens for over 20 years (Exeter Services). I remember being being very disappointed, There are far better take aways, that I could visit and take the food somewhere nice to eat.

The difference between the pie bottom/sides v's the top could be because the bottom was double baked; ie - bottom made in advance so any filling can be put in the base, then the top is added and then cooked (to order). Apparently an increasing trend according to a chef I know.

Just seen the collaboration with Gary Eats. Great video, great fun..Great collaboration. Ramsdens it's just a chain.i went to the one in Merry Hill near Dudley about 33 years ago. Never again (Merry hell we call it)
It really was fun to make the video with Gary. It was the first collaboration video either of us had done, and we were a little nervous about how it would work, how well it would be received, but the response has been overwhelmingly positive thus far :-)

A good review. Well the chicken and mushroom pie looked nice, perhaps next time they should say Chicken and mushrooms pie and you will get more than 1 mushroom!!
I thought the gravy was a small helping, it just about covered your chips.. but again that’s our view. It was a decent price too, and it looked pretty good.

Never understood gravy on chips. Downstairs in the takeaway there are a few tables and chairs so you can eat your takeaway in the dry but still with a sea view
A chip is kind of like a skinny roast potato isn't it? That's my logic anyway ha ha ! I didn't realise the takeaway bit also had inside tables, I saw the outdoor picnic tables.
You have gravy with roast potatoes. It's basically the same, but the chips are easier to eat with your fingers!!
Decent size portion for the price too, considering you're down in Bournemouth. Good looking chips!
Yeah, obviously they kept the Northern prices, not Bournemouth premium on that meal!
I remember greeno trying to get in a harry Ramsdens somewhere and it was shut, glad he got in this one 👍

As for Macca, I didn't know until I came to edit that my mic had picked it up so much. Great tune as you say, but had to chop the content up and around so much to make sure UA-cam don't have a problem with it ha ha!!

can't beat meat n potato pie
I'd have had that if they had it (the one I had in my Wigan kebab recently was amazing) - but it was only a choice of chicken and mushroom or steak and kidney... and I dislike kidney more than mushroom ha ha!

Pastry is way too thick and limp so that was pastry, chips, gravy and peas.

Hello Greeno, have been looking at your thumbnail snaps for a while. And thought I just don't have the time for a new channel ⌚🤔. Then, bosh there you were, with the one & only Gary ( & cameraman) And you seem a man after my own waistline 🤗💛 And I've worked on mine for 69yrs, during a 50yr career in catering, from which I'm now retired. So I'm gonna give you a go. First things first. 🤨 I hate plate fillers😡😡Put food on a plate. Gravy in a jug. The " in house" pie seemed to be OK. Overall fairly good portion size & very good price. It seems to be that you and Gary are two men vs mushrooms 🤢So ends my first Greeno vlog ( have just watched your fish'n'chips video with Gary&son) And now I'm gonna subscribe to the channel. It is indeed one of the largest fish and chip shops with 420 seating capacity but Papas on the pier at Cleethorpes is in fact the biggest with 500 seats.
Great seeing Gary sneak in there and tell you to ' Give it a go ' 🤣
I've dined here many times and don't mind the price because it's all about location and if you sit outside in the sun it's amazing....his food though these days is sadly just average.
Interestingly the site of his first fish and chip shop was in Guiselely , Yorkshire and he paid £150 for it. The site still exist and was bought for £500.000 by the Wetherby Whaler chain that I personally think are much better 😁

Just subscribed having seen you on Gary Eats. I confess, I was always (I moved abroad from the UK many years ago) "a "pie and chips man" even more than a fish & chips. I jsut love pies, so this was such fun to see, have you any idea as to whether the Ramsden family is in any way still behind this, or is it just "the name." ?

Harry Ramsden's was great when he had a few shops. Sadly since turning into a franchise the quality has plummeted.

They used to sell decent gear. I live beside the original gaff in Guiseley. They were bought out by an American mob a good few years a go. Would'nt touch it with the perverbial now !!
Are the American owners actualy a food company, or the usual venture capitalist vultures?
The original Harry Ramsdens in Guiseley went downhill many years ago after a few failed attempts to re-vitalise it. It is now run by the Wetherby Whaler who have taken it back to its original values. Much better and well worth a visit. I think I will skip the Bournemouth version!
Yeah I did hear that the Wetherby Whaler bought the original site, cost them half a million right? I will check it out should I find myself in that neck of the woods!

Yeah it wasn't bad. The best chippy meal I have ever had? No. But a fair price for a decen meal in a prime location. I'll take it !

Did they used to be beef dripping chips back in the day from here? I'm not 100% sure but I think that's what made them famous. I get now that they need to appeal to everyone but I'm not sure they've really got a unique selling point now. Just another overpriced chippy chain? Or am I being harsh. Yeah, I think when they were a traditional Yorkshire chippy they would have used beef dripping - but as you say now they are just a chain - apparently owned by American owners now. Disappointing.

Right, my man. I'm about to excite your taste spuds. Love KFC and Burgers? well, don't worry I gotcha you covered. Southampton, a Chicken place called Miss Millie's Chicken, it's Colonel Sanders grandchildren's franchise. less salt and more herbs and spices, take your taste buds right back to 80s-style before they mixed the chicken with too much salt. Go when they open in the morning, sometimes lazy staff leaving chicken out too long, so you'll end up with dry chicken.
Right next chicken, Reading. wait for it........... Popeyes Chicken! That's right, Popeyes Chicken is in Reading. Now wait for it again same place, Reading........ Jollibee Chicken. You like a burger, in Reading? wait for it again....... Wendy's. Now go have a great time!

Great location right on the beachfront. Pie looked all the better for no mushrooms, plenty of chicken as you say but gravy on chips? Dear oh dear!!
The location is fab, couldn't be better could it, right next to the pier! And I agree about the pie, I wasn't going to moan too much about the lack of mushrooms, but I expect people might if they liked mushroms more. As for the gravy, a chip is like a skinny roast potato isn't it? That's my logic :-)

I agree that some of the options on their menu are on the high side, but I don’t think this was unfairly priced really. Decent meal in a fab location.
Not Surprised Gary swerved Harry's. Sorry, I'm not massively impressed. The pie and chips lacked colour all over. Harry's is bang average.

Harry Ramsdens is what it is, frozen fish, with fresh batter, frozen chips, microwaved mushy peas - bang average pretend chippy, go to a real chippy and leave these places - not worth the money
Yeah, I get what you mean - I think this was decent enough, and in a great location. But is it better than other chippies I have reviewed recently with lower prices, probably not!
Chicken and mushroom pie is one I would swerve though. I'm like you with regard to shrooms. Disgusting!
I don't mind very finely sliced ones in a pie. And mushroom soup is one of my favourites!
