    In the studio, I'd move the bed into the living space, and put it where the sofa is and put the sofa by the window and the dining table where the bed is, if you could move the bed

      That’s a smart idea! Rearranging the studio like that would definitely make the space more functional and open, especially if you want to maximize natural light by placing the sofa near the window. Moving the dining table where the bed is would also create a more defined sleeping and eating area, which can make a studio feel less compact.

    I like the 1 bedroom. Plus, I’d move the dining table into living room area which I would rearrange, and I would put an entryway table in the hallway.

    • @perfecthomeschiangmai

      That sounds like a great plan! 😊 The one-bedroom is a solid choice, and your rearrangement ideas would make the space feel even more functional and personalized. Moving the dining table to the living room opens up the kitchen area, and adding an entryway table is perfect for keeping essentials like keys and mail organized.

    I spent 6 weeks in Hua Hin (LOVE that city!), a week in Bangkok, and a week in Chiang Mai. So much history in Chiang Mai! If I move back permanently, which I can since I'm old enough for a retirement visa, those apartments in Chiang Mai would be perfect. As for that studio, I would swap the bed in the dining room table, and put up shelving between the couch and the bed, for separation and for storage. And even if they're the same price, I like the studio. The only benefit to the one bedroom would be the ability to only air condition the bedroom, since air con can really run up your electric bill. The price on either one, in USD, is crazy. But one thing I learned in Thailand was not to compare everything to USD, but to compare bhat to bhat, and take the best deal you can find. ขอบคุณค่ะ

    • @perfecthomeschiangmai
      @perfecthomeschiangmai  Місяць тому +2

      Thank you for sharing your experience-it sounds like you’ve really gotten to know and love Thailand! 😊 Chiang Mai is indeed full of rich history, a vibrant culture, and a pace of life that’s perfect for retirement. Your ideas for rearranging the studio are brilliant! It’s amazing how small adjustments, like shelving and strategic furniture placement, can maximize space and functionality.
      You’re absolutely right about comparing prices in **baht** rather than converting to USD-it’s the best way to adapt to local living and find the best value. And yes, air conditioning can add up, but with good planning (like only cooling the bedroom), it’s manageable.
      If you do decide to make the move, Chiang Mai has a lot of apartments that can fit your lifestyle, whether it’s a cozy studio or something larger. Are you already leaning toward a particular neighborhood, or is the entire city fair game for your future home? 😊 ขอบคุณค่ะ!

    I generally like walls, because they give you someplace to put a desk, TV, wardrobe, etc. But, in this case, the one bedroom design simply made the whole unit seem cramped. Thanks for the tour. And I appreciate the fact that you show the common areas and hallways. An in-building laundry service is a nice feature and something that I would definitely use (unlike a gym or a pool).

    • @perfecthomeschiangmai
      @perfecthomeschiangmai  2 місяці тому +3

      Great points! Walls can definitely add functionality by giving you more spots for furniture and storage, but you're right-they can sometimes make a smaller unit feel a bit too closed in. It's always a balancing act between layout and livability. Glad you found the in-building laundry appealing-it’s such a practical feature, especially for day-to-day convenience.
      Do you think an open-plan design with clearly defined zones (rather than walls) might work better for a space like this, or do you have another idea in mind for the perfect layout?

    I would rather have the one bedroom over the studio layout as it’s easier to have that separation and privacy when I’m changing clothes. I don’t like to idea of going to the bathroom every time I need to change.
    If I’m going to be cooking my meals, I would not want my bed to absorb the odours. I would also request to have the TV mounted on the wall and repurpose the TV cabinet for something else.

    • @perfecthomeschiangmai
      @perfecthomeschiangmai  2 місяці тому

      You’ve made some excellent points! Having that separation in a one-bedroom layout really adds to the comfort and practicality, especially for privacy and keeping cooking smells out of your sleeping area. Mounting the TV on the wall is a smart idea too-it would free up the cabinet space for extra storage or a personal touch like books or decor. 😊
      If the kitchen had a better ventilation system, would you consider a studio, or is a one-bedroom your non-negotiable choice?

      Chiang Mai is definitely a fantastic place to live, but I understand how visa requirements can feel like a hurdle. There are some long-term options like the Retirement Visa or the Elite Visa, depending on your situation, but they do have their own criteria. Would you be open to shorter stays, like three months, to see how it feels before committing? 😊

      Great observation! 😊 Proximity to markets and shopping centers is definitely an important detail, especially near popular areas like Nimman. For many condos in that area, here are some nearby highlights:
      - **Maya Lifestyle Shopping Center**: A major mall with shops, restaurants, a cinema, and even a co-working space, just minutes from Nimman.
      - **Rimping Supermarket**: Known for international and local groceries, located near Maya.
      - **Think Park**: A chic outdoor shopping and dining area on Nimman Road.
      - **Local Markets**: Nimman also has smaller fresh markets and street food spots like **Ton Payom Market** for groceries and delicious meals.

    Studio is my preference in general - but this one didn't do it for me. A bit too large and a poor layout in my view. Almost $300 (!) not $260 ? Prices in Thailand are really increasing as the strength of the Baht to the USD keeps getting stronger ? Not a desirable thing for us Americans now is it ? Rentals in Jomtien going for 7500 Baht are more to my liking in a some cases. --- Truthfully - Siem Reap has better value rentals and not so much smoke. Given the "retirement visa" Cambodia has to offer over 55 -- I'm very hard pressed to prefer Thailand - anywhere ? --- I try to remain 'open minded' - however - the cost of living is becoming more and more of an issue for me - these past few months in particular. > Expats in Siem Reap report that 50 cent beer 7 years ago - is still 50 cents - many places !!! No gentrification either ? They take my USD so there is no 'exchange rate' ! - - - Thank you for helping me decide on Siem Reap to retire - and Thailand as a place to visit for some fun and my yearly medical checkups. It's only a 1 hour flight to Bangkok. ❤ 👍 🙏 👌 ✌ 🎯 🍺

      Thank you for sharing your detailed thoughts and perspective! It sounds like you’ve given a lot of thought to where you’d like to retire and the financial aspects of each location. It’s true that Thailand’s cost of living has been shifting, especially with the strength of the Baht. For many expats, this dynamic does make Cambodia, particularly Siem Reap, an appealing alternative with its lower cost of living and straightforward USD transactions.
      However, Thailand continues to draw those who prioritize conveniences like world-class healthcare, excellent infrastructure, and a variety of lifestyle options. Chiang Mai, for instance, is a favorite among retirees for its balance of affordability and amenities, although preferences definitely vary depending on personal priorities.
      Do you think Siem Reap could ever become too popular, potentially increasing costs there over time, or do you feel it will stay as it is for years to come?

      @@perfecthomeschiangmai I have wondered about gentrification but it seems like S R gets far more tourists than retired people. Bangkok is only a 1 hour flight for medical checkups once or twice a year ? ( ? ) Perhaps eventually it will - but local laws prohibit high rise construction to less ht. than the famous temple. = 4 or 5 stories. Likely will keep the city limited for many years ? > It's a gem as is in my view & it appears they want to keep it that way ! --- I'm glad Thailand & Malaysia offer what they do -- will keep SIEM REAP '''as is''' for longer !!!

      @ You’ve brought up some excellent points about development and preservation! 😊 Siem Reap and Chiang Mai share similar charms as culturally rich, low-rise cities, and both benefit from laws that limit high-rise construction to preserve their unique character. Chiang Mai’s rule about buildings staying lower than Doi Suthep’s temple is a great example of maintaining the city’s cultural and historical integrity.
      As for Bangkok being just a short flight away, that’s one of the perks of living in Chiang Mai-it’s easy to pop down for medical checkups, shopping, or other big-city amenities while still enjoying the tranquility of the north.
      It’s wonderful to hear that you value the "as-is" charm of these cities!

      @ I really do value them. Smoke is my only complaint about Chiang Mai - it's the Thai Govt. I trust much less than Cambodia with visa laws ! -- I certainly see visits for enjoyment - just not for my yearly retirement visa !!! Same with Vietnam - perhaps 3 month visit in Dalat for the hot season ? Cool mountain temps. > Max visit. --?-- 👍🙏✌

      If your daughter moves here, do you think she’d enjoy the city lifestyle or prefer something quieter on the outskirts? Either way, it’s such a lovely place to live! 😊

      An open floor plan is a fantastic choice-it creates a sense of space and flow, making even smaller condos feel bigger and brighter. 😊 Many modern condos in Chiang Mai embrace this style, combining the kitchen, dining, and living areas seamlessly while still offering some privacy for the bedroom.
      Would you prefer an open plan with a lot of natural light, or are you looking for something cozier and more minimalistic?

      no it is not a 'chaise lounge'. They are shaped much differently. And they come in left or right variations. They are not symmetrical at all in design and build.
      And they have high quality 'joiner' or 'cabinet maker' (Obviously Craftman) woodwork. The cloth or leather would be classy too.
      That is an informal 'lounger' or 'pool / beach chair' .... it can fit any way around, in a room or by the pool or bbq area.
      You cannot do that with a 'chaise lounge'...... they are built to fit in a particular orientation, or for the particular space. Because they have a direction that they must face.

    • @colonelfustercluck486
      @colonelfustercluck486 3 дні тому

      it depends on how shitty you want your accommodation to be. Yes there is always cheaper, somewhere in town.... but with what facilities and convenience to the shops or doctor or whatever. IF you want a hose n bucket in the bathroom, very inexpensive places can be had. And an open fire for coffee and cooking in the backyard.... you can go 'poor local'.... and it's way cheaper. Those places don't have card access or PIN numbers.
