let's talk about woodpeckers so this is
00:04
one of the things that we see that
00:06
people are most interested in and we've
00:08
had it lately woodpecker pecking away on
00:10
the house what can you do about it
00:13
that's an interesting subject it's hard
00:17
to stop the woodpeckers I always tell
00:21
people we go into the forest we cut down
00:23
all the trees and we put a big piece of
00:25
wood up there that's painted Brown or
00:28
grain like a piece of dead wood and it
00:30
wonder why the woodpeckers are hitting
00:32
on it there's two reasons the
00:36
woodpeckers will pound on a house or
00:38
your gutter one is a territorial call is
00:43
it like a some bird will sit out there
00:46
and sing their song to announce their
00:48
territory this is mine this is where I
00:50
want to raise a family and hello females
00:52
I'm right over here so that's why I sing
00:55
the woodpeckers don't sing like that
00:58
they might make a call or two but they
01:00
drum you hear that or slower if it's a
01:04
bigger woodpecker pounding on something
01:06
that makes a loud of a resonant it's not
01:08
sound as they can gutters are fantastic
01:12
chimney boxes are pretty good so you'll
01:15
hear that drumming on something that
01:16
makes a lot of noise that's their
01:17
territory
01:18
that'll subside in a few weeks maybe
01:20
three four weeks max it'll probably be
01:22
like a two-week period we hear a lot of
01:24
it and that's it for the year really and
01:26
it won't do any damage yeah they're not
01:28
gonna hurt your gutters they're not
01:29
gonna really hurt your chimney boxes by
01:30
drumming or under the down spot on the
01:33
soffit or something and you think makes
01:35
noise two other reasons they're gonna
01:38
two reasons they'll do damage one these
01:42
guys live on insects they drill holes
01:44
and trees and things looking for bugs
01:47
larvae especially so you'll see along up
01:51
under a deck railing or in skinny pieces
01:54
of wood they'll come in here and drill a
01:57
series of little holes looking for
02:00
especially carpenter bees my house has
02:03
been attacked several times not the main
02:05
part but around the little pieces of
02:08
wood on the deck and up under the deck
02:10
wherever a carpenter bee has gotten in
02:11
drilled a little hole in a tunnel the
02:14
wood
02:15
come along and start knocking a hole in
02:16
that tunnel to eat the larvae so that's
02:19
not on the side of your house typically
02:21
it's generally on your deck barely snow
02:23
so you'll see a series of dotted holes
02:26
or little strips horizontal or vertical
02:29
where they're trying to get out some
02:31
insects it has been reported that if
02:34
some people have had like a little
02:36
ticking clock right inside on their
02:38
kitchen right next to the window and
02:39
you'll have some woodpeckers pounding on
02:41
the trim around the window trying to get
02:44
to that but they think is a bug inside
02:47
because they hear the little little
02:49
noise like an insect moving inside of a
02:51
chamber the other thing is nesting
02:54
cavities they want a nest and the
02:56
woodpeckers drill a big hole excavated
02:59
out of a dead tree so they can go in and
03:02
have and start their their breeding
03:03
season right there in a nest and basic
03:06
like a nest box in a tree you typically
03:09
will see a large round hole maybe like
03:12
this or not much smaller than this it'll
03:14
be round beyond the side of your chimney
03:16
where they this is a nice piece of dead
03:18
tree and they'd knock a hole in it they
03:20
may or may not use it depending on
03:22
what's inside if there's insulation and
03:24
a horizontal board right in there
03:26
voila they've got a great nesting box
03:29
right there it's hard to stop them
03:31
because they're not down where you can
03:33
walk around and and sure I've told
03:36
people a lotta different things one just
03:38
harass them you know don't don't think I
03:41
even think about shooting em or harming
03:43
them because that's illegal and you
03:45
wouldn't want to do it anyhow but you
03:47
can go out and harass them as soon as
03:49
you hear the start go out there just - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
really good advice, especially the last one! thanks!
Bird people are more bazzare than horse people. I’m more like Elmer Fudd, I’ll just blast em !! LOL !!
Hang small plastic grocery bags upside down- I pinned them at the top with push pins - they have been up there in strong winds and are fine. They eerily float around and look like live creatures - The wood peckers have not been back since I put them up - two months now
You got more time than I do
Most annoying bird in existence
They fill up my fireplace with acorns! Any place they see a hole, they will put as many acorns that it will fit. Now they are pecking the Eve's and it's a 2 story house.
We have woodpeckers and other birds making holes in our Saguaro Cactus. How do we stop them?
I've had a problem with wood peckers for years. And why they are a federaly protected bird I have no idea why? They are a nuisance and I've killed several of them. So I guess that I'm a criminal? I did however find a cure. I had one this year banging on my gutter and watched a video where you hang up old CD's where they like to beat on gutters and such and the banging stopped.
Oh my God, I went on this site for my mother, and found out what was happening to my railings outside on my deck
If I had a possum or a cat digging underneath my house I would trap it and kill it, why would a hole drilling wood pecker be any different?
A cat? You would kill a cat? May karma visit you
Throw pine cones at’em 😮
I have one pesky woodpecker drumming on our metal gutters. my GOD its so annoying
Lotta people here seem confused as to why woodpeckers want to eat, live someplace, and attract a mate.
That being said, I also wonder how many are struggling with the same concerns the woodpecker has.
I dont want to scare my hummingbirds away. Just the others. How do you get rid of the others without losing my hummingbirds?
Well, my property is mine. And if I get him in my sights. He's mine.
have a plague of woodpeckers damaging my avocado tree and fruits help
so you cant do anything
If it's destroying ur home shoot them, no other way around unless you wanna spend thousands of dollars in repairs! And they will continue to drill your home!
I have one pecking on my siding. I call this intruding. Its pissing me off. Damn bird needs to go away
Be nice to him
Is this meant for 5 year olds?
I would never book a photographer who talked to other people that way
Worthless information. I have a flock of Pecan Woodpeckers that have ruined 2 structures with hundreds of holes. Thousands of $ in damages. I don’t have the time to stand there all day and throw ice cubes at them...
The only thing that works is a shotgun.
Correction: Acorn Woodpeckers
Damn right
I had five holes pecked, immediately put Flex tape over them and I put up small plastic grocery bags upside down , pinned at the top and they float eerliy and look like live creatures - they have been up there in strongs winds - I used push pins to tack them up - the woodpecker has not been back for two months now
Protect what's yours! Lol
They can do major damage to a privacy fence . Im not gonna use ice cubes either . I will leave it at that ........... .
