Fluxx43 No, thank you for making these great videos! I was pretty jazzed about possibly buying an FJ-09 until I heard about that high speed wobble. Not cool..
I have the same bike and now have 23K with a Graves full Ti system, have not been able to find a good seat but can do 2-300 miles before pain sits in. The suspension is the cheap parts that have kept the cost down. Oh yea, I am 70 yrs old and this is my 13th street bike.
E=MC Squared. Hello May, good to hear of elderly folk riding motorbikes, as I, too am an elderly person, not far off your age. You don't mention in your comment whether you like the Tracer 900; Do you like it?
@@erikroberts1899 I think the gist of their comment suggests they like it pretty well. I can say for sure that I love mine... but I'm not in the same "age bracket." I'm 35 but I'd say the exact same - I can ride for about 200-300 miles before comfort becomes an issue and I start shifting around. I bought the same 2015 FJ-09, same color and everything a few months ago (like new 1500 miles - already almost 4,000 now), took it for a 600 mile round trip across the state right away. Also came with a full Two Brothers S1R exhaust kit which I love. I was riding for at least 3-4 hours before I started getting really uncomfortable, looking forward to the end. That's with the stock seat, and I'm kinda bony... My previous ride was a '16 FZ-07. The FZ's are great, but the FJ is perfect for the riding I want to do.
@@TheDrewker Hello Drew. They didn't say anything about liking the bike, so how you infer that they do, and call it gist is beyond me. Your flippant comment has annoyed me, I don't see the point of it. Don't mention me again please.
Yamaha heard your comments on the suspension, the new Tracer GT has fully adjustable front & rear this year, quick shift, heated grips, TFT screen, bigger screen, cruise control & panniers. what a deal.
This is the most comprehensive bike review video I have seen. So greatly appreciate the knowledge and effort put in this video! So much information so quickly! Thank you!!
Very informative video, made me eager to ride this bike. I rode a 900 Tracer (name in Europe) from 2017 this morning and fell in love with the bike. Traded my 2006 VFR 800 for it with some extra cash of course and can’t wait to pick it up. It is a sports bike, nothing like an adventure bike. Firm saddle, firm suspension, direct steering and I love that. It is a street bike, does not compare to a BMW GS of Triumph XC, but what it is intended to do it so very well. And that for a really fair price.
I'm due to pick up my new MT-09 Tracer (Australia) tomorrow, having ridden FJR's since 2001. I've read all the reviews, watched so many videos and this is the best by far. A lot of good information, clearly explained. I have subscribed and will look forward to more videos in the future. Thanks!
Nice video, very well organized and informative. I currently ride a 2010 Triumph Tiger and the FJ09 reminds me of a more modern day, scaled down version of my bike. Two quick notes, I would suggest using the front brake in conjunction with the rear brake at all times...you'll brake better/faster and if you do this all the time, you'll never think about t when you have to brake hard to stop in the shortest distance possible. Apply the back brake first and then the front progressively, that will help minimize front end dive. The other point I wanted to make is lane merging/changing...always turn your head and make sure no one is coming up on your side. It takes a split second to complete and can really save your bacon. Beautiful bike, thanks again for the video.
Great review... Had my tracer two years now and very happy. No speed restriction in uk, will pull just short of 150mph, high speed wobble was a concern, would hit me about 130mph. Not nice, tried lots of things with no luck, turned out to be the stock tyres. All good now.. No other issues, yes suspension a little basic, but can live with it for what I paid for a well rounded fun bike
Spot on review. I bought one last year and absolutely love the engine, ergonomics, and rideability but am redoing the suspension this off-season. Still puts a ridiculous grin on my face every single time I ride it. And isn't that what a motorbike is supposed to do?
I bought a MT-09 Tracer (that's how it is called here in Europe) about 6 weeks ago and I can only agree with your review. You touched on everything that made me decide for this bike in the end. Very good review! Just one thing to add: I ordered the bike with some extras from Yamaha and I think it's quite useful: Small LED turn signals, grip heaters and a much smaller plate holder. With this, the tail of the bike looks much nicer.
Tomorrow i'll buy this beauty as my first road bike (i used to ride dirt bikes since i was 9, now i am 24) in mountain green setup, so exited. Just an upgrade to what you said about on and off issue on A mode, with 2017 version (EURO 4 in europe) yamaha managed to solve it completely. So happy about it, hope you're having fun with it.
I have a 2016 FZ 09 and I love it...but I would prefer the FJ 09.I chose the FZ because it is a third vehicle and I had a budget. I am 5' 7" tall with a 30" inseam so I am sure I would be tip toed all day on this 33" height. The FZ fits me enough to where I will not slip on gravel. Customized and personalized the FZ 09 to my benefits in the past month I have owned it, and I am sure that someone as short as me could have done the same with this bike too. Love the review !!! Thanks for the vlog.
Thank you for your review. Very detailed, easy to listen. Despite it's 41 minutes, turns out very pleasant. I've also had the chance to test drive this motorcycle. Technological wise it's very up to date considering the price point. I've ridden the 2015 triumph XCx, and both BMW 1200GS and Honda Crossrunner. So far the most enjoyable engines I've ridden is no doubt this FJ09.
It's nice to finally see a review of this bike that's not simply reading off a press release from Yamaha. Thanks for taking the time to do a quality review. Now, Not sure for myself if I want this, a V-Strom 1000, Versys 1000, or a simillar BMW.... so many great bikes out there these days... Cheers
I've just got to say that was 1 helluva review and thank you for doing a review of the dash or screen or however you call it, that is one of the parts that gets skipped on most reviews. So thanks for a great vid.
Excellent road test. You answered all of my questions and reservations on the motorcycle. Very positive, very eloquent. Thank you sir. I think you just convinced me to purchase.
I just stumbled across your review. UK rider here with a 2021 Yamaha tracer 900 it's as known here. I upgraded from a Kawasaki Vulcan S 650 (great bike by the way) to my Tracer. What a bike it is though, I agree wth everything you said. I absolutely love this bike and that engine is just superb, torque everywhere and a fast revving nature that is perfect for everyday riding. I was looking for that do it all bike and I think I have at last found it. Very comfortable, good riding position and real world power and acceleration that you can actually use makes for a perfect package. There isn't a perfect bike in my opinion but this comes close for me. I agree on the suspension, yeah that could be better but after all this is a budget sports tourer that hits the spot in so many ways . Superb review, informative factual and real world.
This may be the most useful comprehensive motorcycle reviews i've experienced, and i've seen many. How many times to we get a review that is a total waste of our time and we get no useable information. I already see where this is going and has gone in terms of value. To get this type of sport touring performance a lot more will be paid. This may be my next purchase. You noted all of it. I happen to think its very attractive. Thanks!
Thanks for the reply! I currently have my 1997 Royal Star up for sale, and will be purchasing this motorcycle, next. My riding style has changed over the years.
My first bike is my 2014 Ninja 300, which I bought partially because I watched your review on it. Now, I want the Tracer 900 haha. I'm looking for other bikes in this segment too but man is this thing well rounded. Thanks for the review!
Wow man, this is a fantastic review! I think you've answered and covered every little detail or question I could have asked. I'm currently thinking of buying one of these bikes and you've just made my decision so much easier. Thanks a lot. Subbed!
I’m new to streetbikes and this is the second real “street bike” I’ve ever been on and it’s so smooth and easy to ride. I like it because I can actually use the power. The 600 that was my first one I’ve been on is a super sport that goes 150 and in first gear I don’t even get in the power band until I’m going 40 which is completely unnecessary, who in tf can use the power of a supersport without going to prison or killing them selves. This fj900 in the video will power out of a turn faster than a 600 and you don’t have to downshift when the rpms are low, it just doesn’t lug no matter what. It’s truly an awesome bike that I didn’t take seriously looking at the specs.
Yes! Best review on youtube! A honest review. I want to know the downsides with the bike. No bullshit. I think I go buy this bike now. Thanks for honesty!
Really appreciate this review from the perspective of a fellow Southern Californian! I feel that typically we have to travel further and faster to get where we are going (that includes the twisties) than your average city. It's a big state and people RIP on the freeways here with the added difficulties of congested traffic and such. Bikes have to be incredibly flexible in their slow and fast speed manners to be worth while. I'm also looking at the Versys 650 and while I do look at it as a cute and playful bike I just think I might need something with a tad more power and freeway cruising capabilities. I also do not need ANY off road capability whatsoever, although softer suspension is nice on a bike like that because you can romp over crappy roads (which we also have in So Cal).
Good review. Agreed. I've had mine for about 4k mi now and will probably upgrade the suspension at some point, but for now I have made peace with it and know it's capabilities. When I have it fully loaded with bags and tailbag (Givi Dolomitis - awesome) it does great with a bit more preload and I have no complaints. I took some time with the seat and rounded off the corners that were causing discomfort after an hour or so and now can go all day. It is a cheap seat, but I like the density and now that it fits my backside, all is well. Did the fender eliminator and integrated tail light- awesome. I'm 5'11" and use the windshield in the lowest position with the seat in the tallest...seems the cleanest. I have probably put 250k miles on bikes and don't ever remember wanting a cruise control, so no problem there. I've had it up to its regulated speed limit just to say I did it...so I think I'll pass on flashing the ECU to bypass. I don't mind that I need to stop to bypass the TCS....yet. Maybe I'll get a pipe for it someday... Shopping for new tires now. It is EXTREMELY easy to overlook any of the shortcomings or limitations of this bike; they are few and effectively minor. Once you wind up that triple you forget all about it. I feel very much about this bike like I did about my TDM850 years ago, just with a few more exclamation points.
Thanks for taking the time on this. Excellent review, very thorough, and about as unbiased as you can be. You have any updates in regards to the bike since you posted the review? Thanks
Great review. So comprehensive that I have watched it twice. Now that you have had the bike for sometime can you do a part 2 highlighting things such as seat comfort, abs, tc and other areas you find interesting. Cheers for the awesome review
Very good review Wally. Informative, if not professionally done. So many people out there reviewing cycles on Y.T. , and to be honest, many times I hear "I like....". Not picking nit, but many are not good speakers, and some you hear hoots and hollers, and "I really like...". Me personally, with that sort of review, I don't get ANYWHERE NEAR the end of their video. Thanks again, and BTW you did get the thumbs up and Subscribe.
Just picked the bike up last week and watching your review again and noticed that your bike came with Bridgestone tires and mines came with Dunlop, just figured I would mention that to others that maybe seeking the bike.
Nice video man the Yamaha mt09 tracer here in the uk will do 140+ mph. I have the street triple r 675 2013 and I have had 152 mph all I have changed is the exhaust.i wiil be getting the tracer soon
i have an 09 concours and i love it...48000 miles, starting to think of a second bike. Have been contemplating this, more agile...but way down on power, and not sure that screen would be any wind protection compared to what I'm used to. Thanks for the review though, well done!
i check for ordering a akrapovik line for this bike, acording revzilla web site you may no longer use centerstand with this exhaust system! have you mod anyting to fit it? Thank you for your review.
Hey mate, great review. I bought my mt09 (same as fz09, just named differently in Australia) after watching your review of it. Think this would be an awesome all rounder. Thanks for putting in heaps of time and effort on this review, good on ya.
Best review I've seen on YT, and I've literally watched all of them. Picking up one of these this week and I'm stoked about it. Anyway, great job on the review and nice video.
I enjoyed your review. Now i always have larger adventure bikes. GSA explorer multistrada etc I am actually thinking about getting one of these. I have seen them for under $8000!
Great review. I have had my FJ since December and love every minute of it. You mention yours came with Bridgstone tires in the review, mine came with Dunlop D222s. I also find the stock seat to be pretty good. Most stock seats bother me in less than 100 miles, this one does not and I am picky.
Dang dude, awesome review! I was looking into a BMW R1200 GS but I couldn't really see myself spending that much on my first bike. From what I've seen so far the Yamaha FJ-09 seems like a great value and would suit me quite well. Thanks.
Looking to upgrade from my KLR. I think the FZ 09 is the bike for me. Not looking for super power but enough to keep up with traffic without high revs.
Really well done video. I'm heading to the '17 Chicago Motorcycle Show to check this bike out and the new KTM 1090 R . Different animals I know, but both have my interest in my search for a new bike. Thanks again, great information.
Coming off my '06 Suzuki V-Stom DL1000, I found the riding position a bit more cramped and the foot pegs further to the rear. I don't think I would take the FJ to Alaska and back like the Vee. For the price and capabilities (TC, ABS, 114 HP, etc.), however, the FJ is fantastic. How much should I offer my dealer?
picked up my tracer yesterday, insurance here in greece costs nothing 160euro but the tax comes up to arround the same. the speed limit for the tracer is alot better compered to the one they send to the states, around 140mph i think but it still has a limit because you can see top speed with 5th,according to a video ive seen..
About to pull the trigger on a yellow FZ-09 BUT I'm still on the fence regarding the suspension, and I recently heard something in another video about there being a recall already, something to do with the transmission
Fluxx43 Test rode the FJ09 at my local dealer just the other day. I'm getting one this week. I decided on the FJ over the FZ cause I already have a supermoto and want something I can take some trips on. Thanks for the articulate review you sold me on this bike
Great review very honest, its seems Yamaha will sell loads of the these bikes, great price has all the extras that modern bikes have these days without the silly price tag. *********
Rode a 2006 DL650 from 2006 until 2010, put 50k miles on it, then had to sell it. Looking at this review to gauge the bike (*and I live in San Diego, recognized Scripps Poway Pkwy & Poway Rd) might need to go do a test ride.
Nice review. After communting on mine for the past week I pretty much agree with everything you said except why didn't you mention the *awful* mirrors? This bike is so easy to flick around traffic that my hour commute is actually fun! Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Just watched this video and found it informative and interesting. Just bought a new 2015 FJ-09. Great bike. Only have about 400 miles on the OD. On an outing with our local bike group we did an 80 mile (one way) trip and the buzz in my hands was quite noticeable. We were cruising at 55 to 60 and in 6th gear that seems to be the "buzz" zone. Any thought or ideas about that?
I'm thinking of getting this or the new 14'-15' V-strom1000. I really like v-twins. I found that the seat on the FJ09 was really hard and oddly shaped for me. im 6'2" 190lbs, and currently ride an 09 sv650sf abs(first bike 5-6yrs ago). This seat would of been much better if they made it concave front to back.
Have you done a video on your Adv/Touring bike? Would be interested in seeing that. I've been riding a Super Tenere since 2012. You were on the mark with your comment about it not being the same as riding a dirt bike. Keep them coming! :)
Nice job with the review. I'm 6'1" and the seat to foot peg height makes the difference with my old knees. I wonder how the J-09 would compare to my V-Strom 1000.
What a fantastic review! Really its one of the best i have ever seen, and i watched alot of them. Thank you for this. I will go try the FZ09 Tracer(denmark) and make my own impression.
as far as the suspension, do you think it has compressed at all during the break in? love the bike, just a little concerned being challenged vertically.
you touched on basically everything i needed and wanted to know. the only question i still have is about that seat, so i wanted to know when the new seat you ordered comes in can u make another video about how much different it is and weather or not you could ride longer on it. thanks
This is probably the best bike review video I've seen on UA-cam. Subscribed.

Wally, you are a very good, informative conversationalist. Good review. B safe.
Super helpful and thorough video. I picked mine up yesterday and am very impressed with the bike.
CTSega Thank you! Enjoy
Really good video ! Very comprehensive yet interesting and fun to watch .
a briliiant review with thorough demostration, exciting acceleration and endless fascinating sceneries.i've really enjoyed this .thanks a lot.
nicely done, very informative. Super nice scoot. Would love to have one in my stable.Maybe down the road someday!
Nice video man the Yamaha mt09 tracer here in the uk will do 140+ mph. I have the street triple r 675 2013 and I have had 152 mph all I have changed is the exhaust.i wiil be getting the tracer soon
I watch this review at least 2X a week! Really need to find me one to test ride!
Do more bike reviews. You have a clear an concise matter about you and have relevant content. I watched the whole video wich is rare.
Eric Gudzinas Thank you very much, I really appreciate the feedback.
Hey welcome back, its been a while. Thanks for the honest reviews. Oh and the cam view change is very welcomed.
Rocknium1 Thank You!
great review man! over 40mins and i didn't feel like, "oh gosh this is boring, next!" lol
i have an 09 concours and i love it...48000 miles, starting to think of a second bike. Have been contemplating this, more agile...but way down on power, and not sure that screen would be any wind protection compared to what I'm used to. Thanks for the review though, well done!
I have an FZ-06 currently. I want this to be my next bike, just not sure when ill get to it. But it looks pimp.
Hey man, great review. I can tell you your's surpasses many other from seasoned journalists. Subscribed!
I. Love. This. Bike. I had an FZ-07 before, but the Tracer 900 feels like it was made for me.
Hey.....nice route. I live in Scripps Ranch and go up that way all the time. Great review.
+Dana Pritchett Thank you! Great area to ride
i check for ordering a akrapovik line for this bike, acording revzilla web site you may no longer use centerstand with this exhaust system!
have you mod anyting to fit it? Thank you for your review.
Hey mate, great review. I bought my mt09 (same as fz09, just named differently in Australia) after watching your review of it. Think this would be an awesome all rounder. Thanks for putting in heaps of time and effort on this review, good on ya.
Josh Hunt Definitely, thanks for watching!
I think if you release the gas, you could change the driving mode, etc. Great comments.!
its been a long time! glad you're back
Dan Keihanaikukauakahihuliheekahaunaele Thank you sorry it took so long
Well done this is the sort of review i look for when deciding what bike to get.
Thank you!
I was taught to primarily use the rear brake because disc brakes used to lock up in the front and you you would end up in the ground.
Best review I've seen on YT, and I've literally watched all of them. Picking up one of these this week and I'm stoked about it. Anyway, great job on the review and nice video.
Thanks....got an FJ09 and enjoyed your ride along ...
Good overall review of FJ including the leg reach question commonly neglected.
Thank you!
is the speed limit 115 or 150 mph? can't tell 100% and is this limit only in the states or globaly?
Thanks very much!,
Keep up the great work, your review of the 1200GS has me test riding one this weekend!!!!!!
Most stock seats bother me in less than 100 miles, this one does not and I am picky.
excellent Job!!! best review on UA-cam!
Vega Rapidus Thank you so much!
I like the new view much better. Good review, look forward to more glad your back
andy sharman Thank you!
Sounds like an ok bike but I'm confused does it suck at carrying a passenger because I wanted to do that with it 40% of the time
Best review on the tracer 900 hands down. Thanks for your experience and thoughts on the bike!
Much appreciated!
I thought it was going to be too long but you provide real useful info and great entertainment, thanks, about to make an offer on one 😀
Glad it was helpful! Best of Luck
He's back !!!
blkvtr1k Sorry it took so long
picked up my tracer yesterday, insurance here in greece costs nothing 160euro but the tax comes up to arround the same. the speed limit for the tracer is alot better compered to the one they send to the states, around 140mph i think but it still has a limit because you can see top speed with 5th,according to a video ive seen..
I think you deserve much more subscribers. nice detailed review!
Wow amazing review man I'm picking up mine this Monday but I don't think I can wait that long
Congrats you will love it.
Great review, thanks. Now I am far closer to buying that bike. Hope they`ll offer some accessories to cover the tail`s crudeness...
About to pull the trigger on a yellow FZ-09 BUT I'm still on the fence regarding the suspension, and I recently heard something in another video about there being a recall already, something to do with the transmission
simonize251 There are so many aftermarket options that I wouldnt worry about it much. The bike is pretty darn awesome
Hello sir. I absolutely love your review and what a great bike to have. I'll love to have one of these in the future as it was my dream bike.
Down shift
I'm thinking of getting this or the new 14'-15' V-strom1000. I really like v-twins. I found that the seat on the FJ09 was really hard and oddly shaped for me. im 6'2" 190lbs, and currently ride an 09 sv650sf abs(first bike 5-6yrs ago). This seat would of been much better if they made it concave front to back.
how was the comfort seat much better? whats your thoughts on it
Have you liked your comfort seat over the oem?
Have you done a video on your Adv/Touring bike? Would be interested in seeing that. I've been riding a Super Tenere since 2012. You were on the mark with your comment about it not being the same as riding a dirt bike. Keep them coming! :)
that was the best review on the fj09 ive seen...
show us some track day pics
Dry Ice Track Day pics will be uploaded later today.
MissMan666 Thank you so much! Let me know how it goes!
I have one question about this bike how and is there bad vibrations in the handle bars (grips) at the moment I have a 2017 ninja 650.....
top review best on UA-cam thanks
as far as the suspension, do you think it has compressed at all during the break in? love the bike, just a little concerned being challenged vertically.
onerugrat It certainly did but not enough for someone who is concerned about reaching the ground. There is a low seat option.
you touched on basically everything i needed and wanted to know. the only question i still have is about that seat, so i wanted to know when the new seat you ordered comes in can u make another video about how much different it is and weather or not you could ride longer on it. thanks
Andre Battle Thank you! I will do my best. The new seat is an improvement but not by much.
Any update on that comfort seat
