And she doesn't (easily) outshine the protagonist, either. They're both petty, witty, and self-absorbed, so they're great to watch. I wish we got more of the surrogate mother/son relationship in the film, though. Kuzco talks down to Yzma, but he cared enough to ask her about her plans after being fired, as well as thinking she adored him and is horrified to think she'd want to kill him.

Yzma is the ultimate villain ever FOR COMEDY purposes aside of being a nice villain on the same level, there is some kind of iconicity on her as the polar opposite of Maleficent and/or Queen Grimhillde from Snow White, but on a comical level yet keeping all the delicious evil-doer way. (She and actually the whole movie - alongside Kronk - were very much appart from Disney´s classical standards so kinda looked more as the competition villains of Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros that were already classical and very comedic popular on their own in a different way than Disney´s ones. But she alongside Kronk proved that Disney could be playing on the same-league as them and beat them fairly on their own way - and actually aside of Lilo & Stich universe, The Emperor´s New Groove franchise helped to keep most of the animated section of Disney alive on the grey times of middle 2000s.)

Yzma is the real star of Emperor's New Groove. Eartha Kitt truly sunk her claws into the role and kept the eccentricity and power hungry nature. I feel like the thing about Yzma is that she *does* have the means to be a credible villain (she *did* attempt an assassination on her own emperor), it's just that the universe stubbornly refuses to cooperate with her for any longer than ten seconds (the llama potion being mislabeled). Of course, it's a lot funnier that way.

Finally, you’re analyzing my second favorite Disney Villain.
And she doesn't (easily) outshine the protagonist, either. They're both petty, witty, and self-absorbed, so they're great to watch. I wish we got more of the surrogate mother/son relationship in the film, though. Kuzco talks down to Yzma, but he cared enough to ask her about her plans after being fired, as well as thinking she adored him and is horrified to think she'd want to kill him.

What I like about Yzma and Jack Horner is that as evil as villains go they are entertaining and quirky to watch.
Yzma is the ultimate villain ever FOR COMEDY purposes aside of being a nice villain on the same level, there is some kind of iconicity on her as the polar opposite of Maleficent and/or Queen Grimhillde from Snow White, but on a comical level yet keeping all the delicious evil-doer way. (She and actually the whole movie - alongside Kronk - were very much appart from Disney´s classical standards so kinda looked more as the competition villains of Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros that were already classical and very comedic popular on their own in a different way than Disney´s ones. But she alongside Kronk proved that Disney could be playing on the same-league as them and beat them fairly on their own way - and actually aside of Lilo & Stich universe, The Emperor´s New Groove franchise helped to keep most of the animated section of Disney alive on the grey times of middle 2000s.)

I feel like the thing about Yzma is that she *does* have the means to be a credible villain (she *did* attempt an assassination on her own emperor), it's just that the universe stubbornly refuses to cooperate with her for any longer than ten seconds (the llama potion being mislabeled). Of course, it's a lot funnier that way.
