  • The Harbor Freight truck bed crane is highly recommended and affordable. Gary has it installed in their Ford F250, and makes some updates to the camper for a California trip. From the simplest task like charging the battery or changing the generator's oil to replacing the camper tires. But most important is the installation of Harbor Freight's crane which isn't quite so simple. They're bringing a one hundred pound generator for boondocking adventures, and they need a solution for loading it into the truck bed. In this video, Gary breaks down the basic installation as well as offering comments about his experience using it.
Thanks for being part of our journey!

Blazing New Trails is about inspiring others to embrace adventure and seeking their passion. Life is too short and this country is too beautiful not to experience everything it has to offer. Fitness plays an important role in our lives and our RV serves as a means to not only travel the country to sightsee, but participate in epic hikes, bike rides, and further Gary's goal of running a half marathon in all 50 states. We hope in some way our videos might provide inspiration and information as well as encouragement for your endeavors. Each of us blazes new trails in our own way and we look forward to being a part of your adventures and that day when our trails shall meet.

Hi Gary! Thanks for the shout out. We have carried that generator on each of our trips and it hasn’t let us down yet 👍 That lift is pretty awesome! Work smarter, not harder! 😅 Not a bad price for something like that either. Looking forward to Quartzsite with our matching generators 😂 Safe travels!

Hey guys! No worries and after 1-1/2 years, the generator has been perfect. Thanks again for the recommendation! We've also been pleased with the lift after a month and when we see you in Quartzsite, we'll be listening to the hum of our generators doing their job.😎

It seems that you could have rotated the base of the lift, when installed, to get the boom in the right alignment. Thanks for sharing. Oh, BTW, it's in the low 60's here in San Diego this week. Enjoy your trip.

Hi Steve! You're absolutely right, and thanks for sharing! We didn't pick up on that when laying the base out on the metal plate. But I wish Harbor Freight would have designed the holes to mount the base in either direction. Enjoy the warm temperatures! We're outside of Los Angeles for the Rose Parade, where it's much cooler. But there's more to come on that. Take care! 😃

@@blazingnewtrailz you'll enjoy that. The Rose Parade is fun. You can view the floats up close after the parade at Sierra Madre and Washington Boulevard. Jan. 1 from 1:30 to 5 p.m.; Jan. 2 from 7 to 9 a.m. and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the early Jan. 2 session is reserved "for senior citizens and people with mobility disabilities,"
And it's $20 per person. It's well worth it for an up close look at the craftsmanship involved.

@@RamblinRoadies - thanks for that! We're here with a group of fifty people, and will see the floats Tuesday morning. Tomorrow will be an early wake up call with a 4:30 AM departure to the parade route, but we've been looking forward to this for a long time and can't wait. We also had the good fortune this past Thursday to volunteer with decorating several of the floats and had a blast. It's remarkable with all the craftsmanship, intricacies, and beauty of these floats.

How are you enjoying that pop up of your bed now? You can't go directly to face of bed as it's only body sheet metal, you have to reinforce the bed from underside or you'll tear up the bed using the max lift of your crane

Thanks! I'm enjoying it very much. Our truckbed crane is not only secured very well and reinforced from the underside, but working extremely well. Great to hear from you! 😁

Hey how about this buddy how about you just throw a new hole did you ever think about that

If you watched the video, I mentioned having to carry a 100 lb. generator for boon docking. The generator is a bit too heavy for me to lift and I'm not going to ask my 5' wife to help. While I'm not excited about "drilling holes in my truck bed," this is the best solution that allows us to carry the generator and still enjoy boon docking. Thanks for your comments.
