  • Zelda: Breath of The Wild was known as one of the most glitch heavy Zelda Games.
    So what glitches still work in Tears of The Kingdom? Well, let's take a look at all the major glitches to see which ones still work and which ones are patched.
    I forgot to mention this in the video, but due to the new menu system, Inventory Glitches also seems to be patched, as well as Smuggling Glitches.

      I think i know how to btb in totk in theory you could Just use a bomb flower instead of an enemy i dont know because i dont have the game but if you could test it please do and make a video on it please

    Wow, they really patched out nearly everything. Hopefully speedrunners can break TOTK as much as they did with the first game. Looking forward to the next few years of glitch hunting

      It's a 3D game with a physics engine. There will be something. Whether it's Link slingshotting himself through the sky under his own power, or some weird physics interaction that propels objects much faster and farther than intended, there will be some way to move long distances quickly, and there will inevitably be some sort of clipping found (though then we get to find out of the game just kills the player when they're inside geometry or something). Memory corruption is likely as well, though it usually takes a few years/might get patched if found too early.

      ​@@davidagostinho1807 a different engine doesn't cause animations to cancel if you perform a specific action, sprint to drain twice as quick if you tap sprint, shield menu to not open until you're about to land, disable enemy hitboxes when shield surfing, etc. these are patches.

    Wind bombs being gone hurts the most I spent way too long perfecting that glitch just because it looked so fun. Here's hoping that any new glitches will be as fun

      The worst part is that it made sense to not be a bug too. If you put an explosive that produces no heat next to another one of those explosives, the energy of the first explosive will send the second one flying, which would also send whatever that second explosive hits flying.

    From a developer perspective these are quite smart patches, because they basically didn't have to change anything in the engine at all, they've just took a little bit more control over what inputs player can do at certain states of the character
    Also the "double-patch" for sprinting seems that way because the initial tap of the sprint gives Link a little more boost than just sprint's movement - so he burns a bit more stamina to start running, and because of it can go up the slopes a little bit more reliably

      For what it's worth, they are apparently using an entirely new engine under the hood. It's apparently based on the Splatoon 3 engine.

      Seems to be the same engine. Though, Nintendo modifies or "updates" it as they need to, so obviously it's not exactly the same as it was on Wii U in 2014. Tears of the Kingdom also still uses the same physics engine (also updated since 2014 of course.)

    The fact that BLSS was found so late in BOTWs lifetime gives me plenty of hope that we’ll find some crazy movement option at some point

    They also patched the magnet flying machines. BOTW prevented you from flying if you were on a metal piece and tried to lift it, but this was exploited by just standing on a movable object that is above a metallic object, and lifting it, the game allowed it because Link wasn't directly in contact with the thing being moved.
    Now the physics makes anything Links stand on behave as if it was ultra heavy in respect to other objects you try to move around, and even considers indirect contacts.

      Magnesis can lift object far heavier than link. So can ultrahand and whatever other ability totk has that messes with the world. How is it that link can’t lift himself but a massive metal boulder?

    If you fuse a bomb to your shield and activate a shield surf down a lower surface (Ex: Slope) then when you hit the ground the bomb will explode and launch you very far and fast
    not a glitch, but a speed trick that could help.

    i definitely feel that fuse will be the catalyst for initial glitch discoveries. hundreds of different items and even more fuse combinations, it's impossible that they tested absolutely *everything*. I'd very well like to imagine that maybe fusing a weapon to your shield will get BTB to work again, or fusing a bomb flower to your shield. with just how much they added, the TOTK content will definitely have holes in it, unlike the BOTW content which has been thoroughly patched.
    it'll also be interesting to see what new physics based exploits will be backwards compatible with BOTW, assuming the engine they run on is the same/similar. I'd very well imagine the speedrunning scene for both games will directly benefit from new glitches that are discovered in TOTK.

      Shield + Bomb works kinda like a rocket jump. If you try tho shield jump while having a bomb fused it will explode and launch you in the air.

      There's also a few new abilities that definitely alter world physics, that are likely going to be able to be exploited - Like everything freezing in place when you go to target something with recall.
      I also wouldn't be overly surprised if there's multiple non-physics/movement glitches from botw that aren't patched - I know the botw glitch list is a lot longer than just what was mentioned in this video, and that there's even a few weirdly nearly unusable in botw glitches that... might actually end up useful here.
      The main thing I'm sort of looking at atm though is there's very likely some form of glitch you can perform with the gliders. They completely react to link's movement on them, and well... we all know how buggy physics engines in games can be. Between ultrahand and the gliders, there's gotta be some sort of insane physics launch glitch potential there.

      @@Imthefake honestly i don't mind that but they could have honestly at least kept whistle sprinting as you run out of stamina so fast and can't build a moving vehicle or get a horse yet before going to lookout landing as the world is so large. Plus when doing some stuff your horse despawns such as the great fairy with the musicale troupe which makes it a drag to tp back to the stable to get the horse out again. Like even with a full 3 stamina wheel it still depletes so fucking fast

    There's actually one more trick you didn't mention: Fall damage cancel is also fixed in the funniest way possible.
    Normally it would work by throwing your weapon in midair and swapping it off during the animation which resets the player's fall height, so doing that near the ground let you ignore fall damage entirely. In TotK you can't throw weapons in mid-air anymore. In fact, pressing R in the air activates Dive, and holding it makes you dive much faster, so falling off a cliff and attempting to fall damage cancel not only makes you still hit the ground, but you'll hit it much faster and harder than you would if you didn't press anything.
    Inconsequential for a normal playthrough since the Paraglider is a thing anyway, but for speedruns this might be big since you don't actually need the paraglider to progress anymore.

      You actually technically CAN throw weapons while in mid-air... but if you're falling fast enough to take fall damage the altitude gap between where you can initiate the weapon throw and where you land is too short to actually pull it off before you land.

    I tried whistle sprinting out of habit and was SEVERELY disappointed in it being removed because it just lessened the chore of moving from point A to point B 🤧

    Their fix to bullet time bouncing just looks ridiculous tbh. It feels like more people who didn't know about the glitch will think it's a bug, just phasing through the enemies like that.

    im glad that totk and botw are unique games in terms of speedrunning, it allows botw to exist on its own and totk can have its OWN unique speedrun despite being on the same map. cant wait to see how both games grow together

    It might still be possible to do BTBs, just not with enemies. It's been done with cryonis for a long while, but I think (unless it's also been considered and patched) the recall ability could have much similar uses. Not only that, recall is MUCH easier to manipulate than both enemies and cryonis blocks, especially with the addition of ultrahand.
    If this is the case, exploring the skies may be immensely fun for speedrunners and casuals alike if the trick can be perfected again.

    Unfortunate that all the cool glitches are taken out.
    But I kinda like it. Since I'm sure there will undoubtedly be new ones found in TotK. And I like the idea of both games having completely separate glitches. It will make the speedruns for them very unique. If you could do all of the same glitches, it would be like just doing the first speedrun with a new skin.

      I kept hitting ZR for whatever reason, and since Link had no bow he just stuck his empty hand out, so the whole time i kept saying as Link "here's all the fucks i give" *pulls out empty hand*
      Funniest thing was trying to pull out a non-existant bow while sky-diving

    I've found that horses are a little weirder than they were in botw. Try riding horse at full speed around 45 degrees to a ledge and it will start accelerating beyond it's full speed. Not sure if this was in botw or not but if it wasn't, maybe some good glitches could come from it.

    Guys I think we can use the “fix” to BTB against them. Imagine there is some type of enemy or malice blocking off something just shield jump in Bullet time and you’ll clip right through them.

      nope, wont work against floor hazards (though you can just shield surf normally on top of them and not be hurt), and it only works against enemies if you are coming from above

    I think it’s actually great to dissuade people from trying to run by tapping b. While it sucks it removes concerns for “optimal running stamina” and allows people to run without worry.

    Another interesting thing I noticed is if you're out of stamina from gliding and land in water, instead of drowning you get back the amount of stamina recharged from the red wheel. (When normally you have to wait for the red wheel to entirely recharge.)

    What I’m looking forward to most with this new game is the hope that we’ll discover new glitches that can be used in BOTW as well! Similar to how the Back in Time glitch existed across three separate zelda games.

    Another glitch that works is the shield block reset. You can use it off an enemy to get bullet time anywhere. However, Thunderclap does not work which normally can be done in combination with this.

    Not to mention stuff like Menu Overloading was patched out cuz we no longer have Shock Arrows or E-Rods as single items; they're only obtainable through Fuse

    there's a new way found:
    you can travel further distance by doing quick weapon draw/sheath while slow tapping sprint button during the draw/sheath animation. It only slows the stamina drain but no speed increase though.

    Idk if this is really a glitch, but if you press attack and throw at the same time link attacks at a weird angle. It's most noticeable when using a spear as he attacks sideways. Idk if this can be applied to anything but I thought it was cool.

    Ultrahand an object into the air for a short while, Recall it, then Ascend through it when it's not moving to go up where you're not intended to.
    Alternatively, attach a piece of wood to an arrow, shoot it at a wall or ceiling, then climb on top and use Recall.
    There's a somewhat complex horizontal movement glitch involving Auto-build that works kind of like Magnesis flying in BotW, though not vertically to my knowledge.

    So many glitches were "patched", and yet one week later we are now swimming in ALL NEW ONE! And that isn't even counting the stuff that was simply incorporated into Zoani Devices. I've seen a four piece Milti-Stage Rocket for height, and a Rocket Board for diagonal movement. Combine all that with the new Gale and Stutter Paragliding, and One/All Dungeon Speedrunners will be eating good! And that isn't even counting all the stuff I don't know about yet. We are truly in a wonderful time.

    as someone who doesn't have the game yet, the changes from botw to totk are really interesting. did they change the ragdolling physics on death in any way? it looked like link dropped down faster unlike how he falls down slower in botw, and the ui for selecting things with the arrow buttons/dpad looks different too (and i hate that i like it even if it does look like they just used an accessibility setting on it), not even mentioning the map having a more neon blue instead of a deep blue for unmarked areas and all the other changes noticable

    If we managed to get some new glitches from ToTK and they are not tied to some of Link's new hand ability, I wonder how much this would affect BoTW since they roughly run on the same engine

      Since all of Links abilities dont interact with the enviroment at all, ai lack the Imagination to find fun glitches with it, like maybe you can wrong warp with the updraft but even that is prob not very likely and unfun for casuals as well

    I’m kinda curious about other glitches now too, like menu overloading, duping, heart/stamina duping, moon jump, and things like that. Also I think they changed the way you enter shrines because of another glitch called shrine coordinate warp, although maybe they changed it for another reason

      Duping is ridiculously easy as you just need at least two swords/shields/bows and fuse plus terry town to defuse the non bow method

    Just wrapped up playing for the night as a casual. Kept thinking “why am I running out of stamina so fast while tapping sprint?!” Tried whistle sprinting too and thought for a minute maybe I didn’t remember the trick. After a few tries I realized they must have fixed it 😞 I even said aloud “oh speedrun bees are not going to be happy about this!”

      @@gamecavalier3230 No, but you can't unequip a shield once you do the shield flip until you touch the ground, so you'll always lose durability to a shield flip

      With a weapon on your shield you'll just fall if you try to shield surf on anything

    in the starting area, i found out that if you build the floating plats a certain way, you can get them to fly at mach speed in the direction they tilt, this is new to totk and is physics related

    There is a rocket glitch where if you shield surf with a rocket fused to the shield and you put away the shield, you will be able to still use the rocket if you enter surf again.
    But chances are it'll be eventually patch because Nintendo seems to not like it when people finish the game too easily and quickly, maybe they are collecting metadata somewhere to show to shareholders or data analysts?
    There's also dupes you can do right now if you haven't updated yet, where you convert a item into another item, or duplicate one item into two. Chances are that gets patched as well.

    something I'm curious about is if the bullet time bounce trick could be achieved if a bomb flower is fused to the shield, even if its restricted to specific environments, or if the bomb just wouldn't explode. I haven't seen anyone test with a bomb flower, only with unfused shields

    Another trick they seems to have patched is when you press up + b while climbing on a surface that is less than 90°:
    In BOTW link will run for a few seconds before climbing again allowing him to recover a lot of stamina.
    In TOTK Link will immediately slide and fall. The angle of the slope have to be much smaller for the trick to work.

    I accidently found an Ascend spot on the lightning temple that brought me straight to the boss room early. Unfortunately, the boss doesn't trigger, and the trapdoor opens to let you back down. They definitely discovered that one during testing. That made me wonder if the other boss rooms in the other temples work that way, too, even though I haven't found any way to clip inside them early.

    Recall breaks everything and bomb jumps are super fun. Ultrahand catapults are great. Clever Ascend use is better than Ravioli. Speedrunners may find interesting things, but the physics engine is all the glitch us casuals will ever need.

    I have some ideas for potential glitches (maybe spoilers):
    Recall could be used to create some funky collision between two objects, I know in the wind temple I already managed to use recall on a spinny thing and a chest got repeatedly crushed between two walls and it was going kinda haywire, could be potential for some crazy glitches.
    Ultrahand is definitely gonna have at least a few glitches but one I see as a possibility is getting launched by them, I was in a shrine and I was on a flying device, I turned it off and as it fell I somehow ended up on one of the balloons, when It landed I got absolutely FLUNG across the whole shrine at supersonic speeds so not really a glitch per se but definitely potential for some crazy shit.
    I get the feeling that there is probably gonna be some crazy as shit collision stuff with fuse, for example from what I experienced the minecart shields already have some weird stuff.
    The bomb-shield could maybe have something weird happen although it's not a glitch it just looks cool and might be exploitable.
    Definitely ascend will have a ton of glitches, just weird angles to go through etc.
    I also wonder if autobuild will allow you to get some weird creations into weird spaces and do some crazy shit.
    Anyway I'm a little bit worried for TOTK, almost seems too solid tbh. I mean there's nothing wrong with a game that runs without problems and glitches that the avg player will find, but I just loved some of the glitches from BOTW. And oh my lord stamina is so valuable now with whistle springing, blss and wind bomb gone.

      TOTK hasn't even been out for 3 days. (ok, a couple weeks if you count the leaked version) Give it time, it took 2 years to find wind bomb, 4 years to find blss.

    In the floating mazes there is low gravity which lets you unequip your shield much earlier. Unfortunately you can’t get skew so you cant shield clip with it but it has potential.

    Im happy to start from scratch but tbh im a little disappointed that theyve finally patched the instant horse stamina renewal in 1.1. It worked in version 1.0 of tears, and obviously worked for all of BOTW. Now, even with perfect timing , the action prevents him from getting back on the horse right away.

    They got rid of all of those glitches with Link's on foot movement, but I think they've opened up a whole can of worms with the vehicle creation and what glitches could happen with that.

    In my opinion the whistle sprint is the worst because pretty much every casual player I know used that. One of peoples biggest gripes with BoTW was running out of stamina so having it where just navigating the world didn't use stamina was nice. In a way it was also sorta balanced since the whistle would alert enemies.

    I know that this doesn’t have anything to do with movement or speed run kinda glitches but you can still do the glitch where you hold out your shield jump into an attack (or bomb in botw) and jump back and get a second jump to get into bullet time and shoot your opponent so yeah that’s pretty cool (btw I forgot what that glitch is called so yeah)
    Ps you can’t thunder clap rush anymore.

    Just an FYI: Many old glitches will not be present in this game (but new ones will be) because ToTK is actually on an **ENTIRELY DIFFERENT GAME ENGINE** from BotW. Despite it looking nearly identical from a players perspective, the backend is a new engine. This is also why ToTK actually runs better than BotW did.

    I’ve found somewhat of a workaround for not whistle sprinting but the running up mountain advantage it gave. So it’s not to different than the original but it still has to be a somewhat slanted slope link has to be able to stand up one it but when you go to climb the slope climb it normally and then tap sprint and link will move slightly up and grab the slope again just repeat the process of pressing sprint as soon as he starts to climb it not sure if it works in rain just yet but if I find out I’ll edit this comment

    Question about bullet time bounce, I saw on somebody's gameplay footage that if you fuse a bomb to your shield and do a shield surf you get launched upward. So what if you tried to do the slow mo bounce with a bomb shield?

    And now for combat:TCR and anything related to it such as PDR is completely patched due to daruks protection not existing and you not being able to pull out your bow and weapon at the same time anymore.
    On the bright side,shield block reset(SBR) still works in most cases.

    Here is a speedrun technique idea (though it's not a glitch):
    Get two flat objects that can be grabed by ultrahand and can be used as platform
    Hold one object up high for a while and drop it
    Use recall to raise it, and climb up on it with ascend
    Right after climbing up on it, hold the other object with ultrahand as high as possible for a while
    Rinse and repeat, and you can go as high as you want without stamina limit

    One thing that I've discovered is, if you're gliding, say from a tower, and you stall your glider movement (let go of the stick) drop a wing, glide forward for a split second and jump attack, you can basically spawn a wing midair and ride it. It was only super helpful in the beginning with low stamina, but with the power you unlock later, could maybe be used to cover distance really quick, but this requires the paraglider, and at that point, you won't have a capsuled wing, and in any% runs would just forgo it since you can access the final boss immediately after getting the paraglider.
    It is still helpful though for anyone that misses launching themselves with bombs.

      As I've been playing this the last 2 weeks (sorry not sorry) I will also say, I think there is something to the "Stabilizer" tool. Basically can make a catapult so to speak, the only problem is distance and speed, which I think can be rectified in a similar way to stasis launching yourself, where you come into physical contact with the catapult as it's launching, but I haven't been able to really get it working, though I'm sure it's probably user error. This is also under the assumption that you can even get it easily in a speedrun, or would even want to. I think as far as speedrun glitches go, this game is going to be pretty straightforward. Maybe a skip here or there, a time save here or there, but nothing as major as BotW's glitches.
      I wish you guys the absolute best of luck though. I really do miss bomb jumping.

    I just realized something. It feels like you can’t pick up items as fast when mining, you have to wait until the weapon swinging animation is finished. I think this has to do with the BLSS patch, maybe they made it so it’s impossible to perform one action while another is being performed

    I'm not as optimistic that Ascension will lead to major exploits because it seems to me that Nintendo was very conscientious about how it affects movement in dungeons. You can use it to go up but not down, and most of the minidungeons outside of shrines are in underground caves. This means in most situations, you can use Ascension to leave caves quickly, but you can't use it in reverse to skip past obstacles. And I've only completed the first proper dungeon, but that one was also very clearly designed so that Ascension lets you get back to major crossroads easily after solving puzzles but doesn't have any viable options for skipping puzzles altogether.
    That said, all it takes is one piece of weird geometry in a felicitous spot and Ascension could do some serious work...
