  • Today we'll visit the stunningly beautiful Wat Arun where we'll also catch many visitors wearing traditional Thai clothing.
Wat Arun is a Buddhist temple or 'wat' in the Bangkok Yai district in Thonburi on the west bank of the Chao Phraya river in Bangkok, Thailand.
This temple is one of the most important & iconic temples in Siam which has existed at this site since the Ayutthaya Kingdom.
The full name of this temple is Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan (Thai: วัดอรุณราชวราราม ราชวรมหาวิหาร) & it is also known as the Temple of Dawn or Temple of the Dawn.
Although the temple has existed since at least the 17th century, its distinctive spires (or prangs) were built in the early 19th century during the reigns of Rama II & Rama III. The towering 263 ft (80m) central prang is beautifully inlaid with pieces of Chinese porcelain & glass in a mosaic, most of which were collected from British & Chinese trade ships that were shipwrecked at sea.

P.S. The central prang of Wat Arun encloses a relic of the Buddha.
