just a few thoughts on Koko, who I've known about for over thirty years. She is amazing. I was watching the film on how she wants a baby and what occurred to me was what I feel she wants is too live with other females with babies so she could help raise them and teach them. if you look at how gorillas live in the wild. At her age she would only help raise and teach the others. Anyways just a educated perception on how Koko could pass on her knowledge too other lowland gorillas. let's see she was 42 when these documentaries were made so today she would be close to 50. thank you for the films, I've always wondered what had happened to Koko over the years.

I just read the long article someone gave a link to. Poor diet, no vet care for either chimp and Ndume is ignored by Penny and kept isolated from Koko spends his days crying sometimes. Koko is bored and depressed and sleeps all day. A bunch of her caregivers resigned en masse in 2012 and wrote a letter of protest to the BOD and nothing was done. This is cruel and heartbreaking.

That is as close as they ever get and even that is rare... these two animals are kept all by themselves even though they're animals that are extremely social and need to be around their own kind all the time

If you folks were to watch the slightest thing of this channel, you would see that these creatures are allowed massive acres of land to live in, and regularly get to go outside. Penny has always complied to their wishes, every time. If you ask me, I think it's incredibly silly to make accusations such as this when you've clearly not done any research into either gorilla psychology, nor Penny Patterson herself. Please, try and maintain your sensebility next time, there's no reason to bleed out of emotions here.

This really hurts my heart...How could you in good conscience, subject these amazing gorilla’s to these living conditions? If you insist on keeping wild animals captive, then give them the space and the beautiful lands. Not cheap, small, run down trailers!
This isn't their home. This is Penny Patterson's home, which they visit for birthdays. Do some research next time before making such easily disprovable comments; you have no reason to speak from emotions alone.
If anyone has ever seen a happy and excited gorilla, even at a good zoo, they'd know just how pathetic this is. Cincinnati Zoo owns Ndume, and needs to bring him back into a healthy environment.
I have read your opinion on Koko and Ndume on a website and I do agree that it is sad to see the birthday videos . Project Koko should have ended many years ago.I have tried to sign the petition but it failed? Is there another petition that can be signed? I am convinced that Koko would have bred if there were more gorilla around .
H de Jong Despite there being more gorillas around she most likely still would not have bred....also you can't have more than one male in the same area there's only one silverback in each group so it's not like you're going to stick her in the midst of a whole bunch of males and let her pick one. in addition to that most gorillas that are hand raised by humans never end up properly breeding and if they do have a baby most of the time they do not know how to care for it or choose not to care for it. so the damage was already done what she was being hand raised as a baby by humans
