- A damp box is essential to keep a consistent moisture state of clay bodies. To joint different clay parts together, it is critical to make sure these pieces at a similar moisture state. The damp box is helpful to keep the clay pieces workable for weeks. This video shows how I make a damp box for my clay studio.
This damp box is made of a large plastic container with a relatively thick (1-2 inches) plaster in the bottom. The plaster can store a large quantity of water and maintain a consistent moisture environment in the container. Check out this video for a step-by-step process on making the damp box.

This is a really helpful video, I'm making damp boxes for myself and a friend this weekend!
Have fun!
That was interesting. Thank you so much. God bless you and your family.
Thank you! This damp box is useful to keep the clay parts moisturized for a longer time. If you have a chance to work with clay, this should be helpful to you.
Heya do you wet the plaster before you put pieces in so it’ll have moisture to release over time?
Yes, I add water into the plaster every now and then. You can tell if the plaster is wet enough just by touching it.
What kind of plaster do you use?
What's the damp box for?
I use the damp box to keep all pieces in a similar moisture state for joining together later. You can check my latest video for the application.
