Or they've owned a wallet where the coin pockets' zip broke and combined with these holes the wallet constantly lost their cash, leading them to purchase or make a dedicated coin pouch and ultimately end up using the wallet itself less over time, until they realise one day that they bought a wallet to hold their money that's just sat in a draw doing nothing, so they comment on a video of a wallet with a similar design. Personally I haven't had that experience because my coin pouch was a gift from my sister.

That clearly shows they have never sewn something in their live.... Its way easier and faster to just keep going and stitch a straight line closed then to stop to make the hole. That’s what I was thinking. A straight seam is the simplest thing, but stopping to create an opening is extra work. Especially with a nicely finished edge!
Owned many wallets. The one I have rn is the first I've had that DIDN'T have that. I love this wallet, it's wonderful, it has 2 cash pockets AND a hidden zip pocket I hide money from myself in. It also wasn't cheap, it cost a good bit more than my old wallets (not relevant to why I like it, but the company it's from makes a nice product) It not having that gap, though, means the bottom corner looks like a dog chewed it. Lightly! It's not too bad! But the stress of folding where it doesn't have room to means the leather has stretched and shrunk up. There's lost material from it being in a pocket and that tense corner rubbing on denim constantly. It's my one problem with that wallet. You NEED those gaps.
That hole helps wallets fold more smoother and easily. Its either a nice looking wallet that has effort placed on it, Or a wrinkled wallet that wont close properly.

I think typical wallet's are slowly starting to be phased out, i still use my wallet but there are other options now and depending on the circumstance might be better than a regular wallet, in 20-30 years wallets will probably be the "vintage disposable cameras" of tomorrow (take all this with a grain of salt)

The holes in that wallet prevent the leather or the mock leather from ripping itself apart after repetitive open and closing with bills in the sleeve. been working in the leather craft industry these types of products often gets wrinkles where there is the holes made, if there is no holes or others way to avoid wrinkles there's going to be wrinkles, then people who doesn't know about leather craft thinks that you're not taking care of the product because of the wrinkles when it's just the natural reactions of the material's being folded
If most people hate them then they are a flaw you can easily put in a mesh lining to catch anything and you don't. I've worked with wallets before and the process doesn't prevent you from making higher quality. You're really taking advantage of the fact you're a content creator and people will support you regardless

Only people who Do not do leatherwork will call that hole a flaw... as a side note there are wallets designed to hold some spare change however full disclosure, they are not suitable for "coin hoarders" as the amount of coins is limited due to design. Most of these wallet styles are Asian and there is one with an open coin compartment it however looks like she picked a more standard design for desirability and design.

As someone who sews it really is more effort to leave a hole and reinforce it than to just sew over it - if it’s by domestic machine it would take like 2 seconds to sew through those holes, if it was an industrial machine it would take about 3 seconds to sew the entire edge of the wallet, the holes would make you start and stop which would take much longer. If it’s done by hand then it will take a little longer but is still faster than leaving the hole
Also the hole in the wallet also works to get out any dirt for example there are chip crums(which idk how it would get there)in your wallet then it can get out by the hole.hope it helps✌️

You see people, wallets are supposed to fold. To do so, one side (specifically the back side) of the leather must be longer than the other so that it doesn’t stretch and wear down when it is folded. However, in order to keep these two panels of leather lined up, the longer one needs to have spaces where it can have some give, hence the bumps where it is meant to fold when it is opened, and therefore the holes.

Would you ever consider making a knife sheath? I’m working on a run of Sanrio themed knives, and a sheath from you would seriously elevate them
If it didn’t have the holes then it won’t fold properly
I just wish there was a way to put like a thinner fabric or something there so it can fold but still have it so coins don't fall through or Maybe have a specific spot for coins idk but that issue has always bugged me.

I have an idea you could put a little bit of fabric just to cover the holes so that they're still the whole spot but there's fabric there so that stuff doesn't fall out
As someone who sews it really is more effort to leave a hole and reinforce it than to just sew over it - if it’s by domestic machine it would take like 2 seconds to sew through those holes, if it was an industrial machine it would take about 3 seconds to sew the entire edge of the wallet, the holes would make you start and stop which would take much longer.
If it’s done by hand then it will take a little longer but is still faster than leaving the hole
that person has obviously never sewed or seen a wallet before.

The border of the hole clearly has a finished edge. The sewing machine didn't miss it, it was intentionally finished that way

Also the hole in the wallet also works to get out any dirt for example there are chip crums(which idk how it would get there)in your wallet then it can get out by the hole.hope it helps✌️

Holds are there so the material don’t get stressed at those folding points and allow expanding so you can fit more bills
You can literally see there’s a hem on the inside of the hole, clearly it’s very intentionally designed
It's so that you can fit more in it. Ever notice how the corners of other folding wallets blow out the develop holes anyway? This reduces tension.

Yea i have those holes too, but it is sometimes annoying cause my coins fall through
I had a folding wallet as a kid. The holes bugged me a little but it seemed pretty obvious why they were there
I get that, but maybe sew the inner linings together so it can fold and also hold other stuff then paper.
I sometimes have to much change and it would be nice to put it in tve big pocket, but they all fall out

You see people, wallets are supposed to fold. To do so, one side (specifically the back side) of the leather must be longer than the other so that it doesn’t stretch and wear down when it is folded. However, in order to keep these two panels of leather lined up, the longer one needs to have spaces where it can have some give, hence the bumps where it is meant to fold when it is opened, and therefore the holes.
