The Colorado Avalanche has a "big foot" on their jersey, I don’t know if it is still there on the new one, so Yeti would not be original. I like Outlaws.
I kind of like several of them. Stingers or sting, because of one, their state flag, two, because they can nickname the delta center, "the hive". The reason i came up with that, is because pittsburgh used to have a indoor soccer team called the pittsburgh stingers and one of the commentators nicknamed the civic arena "the hive". The blizzard could work, because for a logo and/or mascot, they could use any animals that are associated with the cold (yetis, deers, etc.). Mammoth could work. For a logo, instead of tusks, they could use hockey sticks. I'm not liking the utah moniker for the team. They could use the salt lake name and it could still work. Let the jazz keep it. And while we're at it, why not let new orleans take back the jazz name and find a new name for utah. Jammers, perhaps?
They're not going to change the Jazz name. If that was going to happen it had to be 50 years ago when the team first moved. But now that name is permanent. And I never hear anyone saying the Lakers or the Clippers should change their names. They're originally from Minnesota and Cleveland. How many lakes does LA have? How many Clipper snowstorms clip LA? I do agree that Salt Lake should be an option, but they already said that they are using Utah.
No names were submitted for a "patent". Patents deal with inventions/creations like the first light bulb, the first elevator, etc. The names were submitted for trademark registry which is was the ® symbol is on most logos that are protected this way.
You do understand why the bad names are there, right? They already have one or two names they are okay with and the bad names help force the votes towards those names.
Singular names make the team sound like it is all part of one. I love Hurricane and Lightning. Since the Utah state flag has a beehive on it, the team name could be Utah Sting, Utah Swarm or Utah Hive with the state flag as a shoulder patch and a cool logo similar to the Sarnia Sting. Can go with yellow, black and and blue.
Utah raptors is I think the best. The fact that a giant raptor species (called the Utah raptor) was found in the state makes it all the more better. Mammoth/stags are good too. Yeti is getting way too much traction and it is concerning.
Utah Black Diamonds! A nod to the ski industry, universal associations with skill, difficulty, and a challenge. Timeless relevance and more unique than Blizzard, Fury, Venom, Raptors, Outlaws. Black & Purple primary colors; limitless brand and logo possibilities; Yeti still a potential mascot. Let's Go Diamonds, clap clap...clap clap clap!
Mammoths>Yetis>Stags>Raptors>Outlaws>Venom>Blizzard>Ice>Fury>UtahHockeyClub need to pluralize yetis and mammoths. I would also like skinwalkers, but know that wont happen
Everyone talking about bees need to realize that that sounds like baseball not hockey. If Salt Lake gets an MLB team, that should be the name. But not for hockey.
Hey!!! .. Salt Lake City my suggestion for your new hockey team is ......... UTAH TROOPERS ................. This name represent ...Team work.... It is not sexist and i think you can make a great jersey with this name. And this name does not exist in any professional team i know
What about Utah Coyotes? There are MANY famous examples of teams that move and retain their name (which Utah is no stranger to). Plus, Coyotes are a species that is common to the Salt Lake region. Also -- many NHL fans shorten their team's names. In their home states, names like Av's, 'Canes, Caps, Hawks, Preds get used almost as much as the whole name. So why not "'Yotes"? (that's one syllable: Yotes - not "Yo-tees".) Utah Yotes kind of rolls off the tongue. Even if you still say the whole name "Utah Coyotes" it still has some good assonance.
Agreed. The names suggested are typical small town minor league tags. What has been different is KRAKEN - doesn't even end in "S". BREAK NEW GROUND!! Some nice tries, BUT. Yeti is Himalayas. Cutthroats is high seas. I prefer ROAD RAGE over Fury. I have posts over all the sites to do with a name for the Utah NHL team. Go critique them!
I’m sorry but Utah yeti is actually legit: the phonics of the name (you-ta yet-E), it’s an ice hockey team, yetis are ferocious. Massive disagreement and the general public also disagrees
But Utah does have Bigfoot, basically the same thing, but that just doesn't roll off the tongue. Abomination is good though, as in abominable snow man.
I kinda like the "Salt Lake Stallions" It isnt great, but its better than a lot of them. But I've heard that they're going with Utah and definitely not Salt Lake.
1. Raptors is the best one by far and my number one choice. Yes I’m aware of the Toronto Raptor but hey a man can dream lol. 2. Stags is a great concept and I hope they do trademark it. 3. Yetis, I do like it, sure it’s not a legend that started in Utah, but it’s about what it can represent and the marketing behind it. It’s literally a snow version of a Sasquatch. Yes there are better names but it’s not a bad name and I wouldn’t be mad if this gets chosen. 4. Mammoth is another one that I wouldn’t be upset about. I think the colors could be great and can see it sticking.
Just pick a different dinosaur, and I would vote for that! I think many of these names are being voted on by kids! Ryan, stick with Utah hockey club until the right name comes along!
Nothing worse than alliteration that isn't alliteration. Utah Yeti literally sounds like a straight to Disney+ hockey team name. I think a "beehive state" name would be better. Utah Sting, Swarm, Yellowjackets (do a Red Sox/White Sox thing with the Bluejackets)
Nothing plural I think. Utah Yeti, Utah Outlaw, I really like the Utah HC or Utah Hockey Club and the mascot could be a yeti haha. I like Utah Raptors. it was an dino discovered in the state. They got to this get this right though
I agree. The names are bad all around. They should just choose a normal animal or type of person from Utah.. Something that evokes the region... and not a fictional/fantasy being like Yeti. Names that have something to do with the people there, like the Steelers, Packers, etc. age well because you can't go back and change your city's past... Moreover, animals.. Just normal animals like Sharks, Lions, Tigers, etc. etc. are a safe bet and they should choose an animal from the area boom, done. I realize these might be kind of "boring" but the thing is you want a name that is going to work in 2070. Something that holds up. These names like "Yeti" and all the non-plural names like "Fury" are just so tacky and cheap sounding to me they sound like eSports teams and will sound dated in a few short years... Just like Kraken will. Even the H.C. -- capitalizing on the pseudo-European thing that has become popular as soccer has become more popular in America... But that is such a fad and will sound so bad so soon. Yes, names like F.C. and H.C. and European style names are cool in America in the 2010s and 2020s... But do you know when they were not cool in America? In the 1940s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s,... this "H.C." thing could easily become once again not cool and looked back on as that name that was chosen during the millennial and gen Z soccer fad. So far the best names that are on the table imo are Mammoth(s)? but it gets ruined a little bit because it just is not a good-sounding word. Utah Mammoths doesn't really roll off the tongue. Or is it just singular "Mammoth" ... That I don't like either, just 1 Mammoth? The positives though are that Mammoths legitimately existed in Utah/not made up, unique, Animal logos you can do so much with. Blizzards is probably my second favorite, although it is a little too generic like a create-a-team name, and also kind of evokes a similar thing to the Avalanche... But I don't hate it. Outlaws is literally a create-a-team name and is too obvious. I made a Salt Lake City Outlaws in NHL 14 or 15 or something create-a-team mode. Outlaws and Renegades were always the two create-a-team names I chose and SLC or OKC the two cities I always chose.
Raptors imho is by far the best name I have seen so far, but sadly not one that they are considering. It is a real thing, not fictional/fantasy; actually tied to Utah; easy to say "Utah Raptors"; not overused in sports; easy to come up with a logo for it.. cool theme.. Easily Raptors.
I don't like many of the current ideas. Yeti might be the best but it would be better if it was Abomination, as in abominable snow man. And yes utah does have many Bigfoot sightings. I do agree that Yeti does have an Asian vibe to it. Blizzard is okay. So is Mammoth. Outlaws is way too overused in sports, so that's out. Hocky Club? Absolutely not. And I think it would be terrible if they don't come up with a name before the launch. You only get one chance at this. And how hard is it to decide on a name? Not doing so would be inexcusable.
Yeti is ok, the only problem is that the Avalanche have used Yeti themes before. Don't they have a Yeti foot on their shoulder patch? Hockey Club is horrible. It's fine for a year until they find a name. The Outlaws is ok, but it's what you name a team when you create one in Madden Football. Even some of those concept jerseys were the exact logos that Madden used. I think I like Blizzard and Mammoth the best.
@@algeborusas2775 sort of. The Indiana Ice was a jr. team that was a member of the USHL. It really wasn't considered a minor team as it would have had to be part of the NHL farm system (i.e. AHL, IHL, ECHL, etc.).
I like the Yeti logo and mascot ideas/concepts more than I like the actual name. Mammoth is starting to grow on me. Also some cool Jersey and logo/mascot ideas you could do with that. Raptors would be cool but I think there’s still a minor league baseball team in Ogden with that name plus the Toronto team. I don’t know. There’s never going to be a unanimous consensus on any name they choose.
If you mean safe as far as avoiding the offended by everything crowd then absolutely. I really would’ve gone with Pioneers, it would be a perfect nod to history with Mormon pioneers moving to Utah in the western migration and they could make a logo with similar design cues from the La Salle Explorers but do it in their own way. Instead of a pirate looking through a telescope, it’d be a person dressed up either as a Mormon or pioneer/traveler type of clothing with them either in a seeking pose or looking through binoculars and then they could have the mountains in the background.

I like the idea of bringing back the Salt Lake Golden Eagles!
You do understand why the bad names are there, right? They already have one or two names they are okay with and the bad names help force the votes towards those names.
The LDS parody names on twitter and tiktok have been amazing though
i hope that its not a name that is singular. plural names just sound better
The old Golden Eagles jerseys were kinda fire
i agree with what you said
Those Outlaws concepts look eerily similar to a bunch of similarly names esports teams lol
The best team name would be the Sting or the Swarm with the Utah honeycomb state flag as a shoulder patch.
My top 3 choices would be:
Utah Raptors
Utah Eagles (Not Golden Eagles for obvious reasons)
Utah Hornets
I think the name of the NHL team in Utah will be the Utah Yetis.
Idk man it's not my favorite option for them
Yetis sounds so dam lame, the Avs already had a yeti mascot too like not original, DQ patch for sponsor would go hard
@@juanpeace3y2d But the Avs have already replaced the yeti mascot with a Saint Bernard mascot, silly.
@@TimFrith24 that's why I said had, just unoriginal, not something unique to pull as a new franchise branding
Mammoths>Yetis>Stags>Raptors>Outlaws>Venom>Blizzard>Ice>Fury>UtahHockeyClub need to pluralize yetis and mammoths. I would also like skinwalkers, but know that wont happen
I'm all in an The Outlaws
It’s growing on me
@@westonware14- would make some sense. Since almost everything is Outlawed in UT
Everyone talking about bees need to realize that that sounds like baseball not hockey. If Salt Lake gets an MLB team, that should be the name. But not for hockey.
There is actually a dinosaur called the "Utahraptor." There is no way they would pick that though. Toronto has a strangle hold on that name.
Hey!!!
Utah Mormons?
💀
Not quite that but Pioneers would serve homage to the Mormon pioneers who moved to Utah during the western migration
Yetis is a cool name It's a mythical creature
But is it?
Yetis sounds cool but it makes no sense. The Yetis are a Himalayan thing and I don’t think Utah has a large population Himalayans.
But Utah does have Bigfoot, basically the same thing, but that just doesn't roll off the tongue. Abomination is good though, as in abominable snow man.
The Avalanche used the Yeti! Soooo NO!
I kinda like the "Salt Lake Stallions"
It isnt great, but its better than a lot of them. But I've heard that they're going with Utah and definitely not Salt Lake.
All the good names were probably parented way early by someone, so we're just getting the dregs. There was not a single bee related name in the bunch.
Utah Talons
About time someone suggested that name!
As a surprise they will be a the Utah coyotes
I don't like many of the current ideas. Yeti might be the best but it would be better if it was Abomination, as in abominable snow man. And yes utah does have many Bigfoot sightings. I do agree that Yeti does have an Asian vibe to it.
Blizzard is okay. So is Mammoth. Outlaws is way too overused in sports, so that's out. Hocky Club? Absolutely not. And I think it would be terrible if they don't come up with a name before the launch. You only get one chance at this. And how hard is it to decide on a name? Not doing so would be inexcusable.
Utah Fusion, Venom, Raptors and Cascades.
Utah Saints (LDS) i mean, they already took the towns basketball team. Might as well take the NFL team’s name, too.
"Yetis" all the way! Utah Jazz switch to the "Buzz" or the "Stingers"
I personally loVe "The Outlaws" that would be so Amazing,
I like the names venom and blizzard
It’s true, almost all the options are terrible!
Utah Stags ? So is every game going to be a Stag Party ?!?! I'd go to those games
Stags or raptors would be the best. Sadly it looks like everyone wants yeti
Yeti
Black Diamonds
Swarm
Venom
I want mammoths
The Utah Ice playing on ice is kinda hilarious 😂
Too bad the Devils already had the "Jersey" jersey and the "hat" hat. LOL
@toddgelineau6536 😂 I loved my devs doing that too
Wasn't there a minor hockey team called the Indianapolis Ice?
@@algeborusas2775 sort of. The Indiana Ice was a jr. team that was a member of the USHL. It really wasn't considered a minor team as it would have had to be part of the NHL farm system (i.e. AHL, IHL, ECHL, etc.).
@@toddgelineau6536 They played in the International and Central hockey leagues about 20 years ago. Their logo still appears with a Google search.
Utah yeti is the best or the mammoth
Mammoth good, stags good, mavericks good, outlaws okay.
HOW is there not a "SAINTS" name in the hat?
Utah Dwarves.
They always avoid cool names, stick with safe ones, and now they won’t even HAVE a name their first season. Way to start off on the dumbest foot. 🙄
Why not just call them the wolves or the eagles or something
They're all better than the Kraken 😂
... Seattle Shipwrights.
@@ZattirfVuli That's better than the kraken
Yeti is just as bad/lame
Should of been the Seattle sockeyes colors green orange black it represents the lots of Salomon time in the area
@henrybug8887 Bears eat salmon. It sounds like the Bruins would automatically win against the Sockeyes.
Their was an actual species of raptor called the Utahraptor so that would be a great team name
That’s what I’m saying!!
Cant do Raptors due to the Toronto Raptors.
Yeti is prefect!
Ugly name for a bad team.
I think the name should be the Utah Mormons😂😂👍👍.
