  • Holly is a spoken word poet who works with students to help empower them through finding their voices. In her talk, she shares three of her poems: 'Thursday' is about the power of spoken word to bring out identities and personal stories; 'Butterfly Boy' looks at creation of community, engagement, and empowerment through spoken word, and lastly, 'PSA' offers new and important takes on an old acronym.
A spoken word artist, public speaker, and certified teacher, Holly Painter has spoken to over thirty thousand youth at school and community events in Ontario, and performed on stages across the country. Holly is an Artist in Residence with the Thames Valley District School Board, a three-time Grand Slam Champion and Director of the London Poetry Slam, the National Director of Spoken Word Canada, and testament to the fact that your biggest fear can become your greatest passion.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Such a beautiful performance! As a teen who loves spoken word, this was very empowering. Wish it would become a part normal education or workshops were available. People need to tell their stories, thanks for sharing yours.
