Some years' back, I heard that Jefferson Airplane/Starship were playing near me. I said to my wife, 'we have to go 'cos they could all be dead soon'. So we went and it was brilliant. They started off doing Airplane songs [with a young female vocalist taking Grace Slick's position]. Then they moved on to do some Starship stuff. Just before they started the first Starship song, this old man, with grey/silver hair, shuffled through the crowd and up to the stage. Someone shouted out 'Whose granddad has wandered onto the stage?'. He walked up to the microphone and took it off the mic stand. Then they kicked off with Jane and he was the singer on that recording you just listened to. He didn't disappoint. He suddenly transformed from this old geezer into a full blown rock singer and his voice was as good as ever.
One of my favorite songs ever. Mickey Thomas just kills it on this but the whole thing is really really good. And yeah they're the same band they just changed their name from airplane to Starship as they moved out of their formation in the 60s and they were very dominant in the 70s and then they changed it to starship, Jefferson starship, in the mid to late seventies and had a bunch of hits and then this one came out when I was in high school and the first thing I had to do was go learn both that guitar and the piano riff. But I really didn't appreciate his singing until I was older and I could never get tired of hearing this song simply because of how incredible his vocal performances on this.
They are the same. They just changed the name. They've been kicking ass for decades! What a great song! Count on me is another one you should give a listen to, and of course, Miracles! Those are must listen to songs! Peace!
🎸💯 Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship ARE the same "basic" band. This cut is badass! This vocalist sang Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love"! Dope song! Thanks Biz‼🔥 ☮ ❤ 🎶
I’ve said this countless times and I’ll say it again, Mickey Thomas the vocalist is in my opinion is the best rock singer out of any of his peers due to range, pitch, clarity and ping. Also, he can sing soulful, gospel style as well with his Elvin bishop band days on fooled around and fell in love hit and other songs he did with that band. Trust me, his peers know he is one of the best of all time, as I’ve heard many of them talk about him.
Jefferson Starship is some of the original Jefferson Airplane folks- and Mickey Thomas lead vocals. His voice was killer. You know him from Elvin Bishop song. He and a band member had a terrible fight after a show and Mickey would up with broken ribs and facial reconstruction with metal plates.
Sweeter than Honey, Miracles off of the album Red Octopus are for me my favorites when named Starship. This is a great tune as well though. Love the heavy edge.
Jefferson Airplane/Starship has had a bewildering number of people in the band over the years, literally dozens, but the core group was: Jorma Kaukonen: Lead Guitar Paul Kantner: Rhythm Guitar Marty Balin: Vocals Jack Casady: Bass Grace Slick: Vocals Spencer Dryden: Drums. The most notable change was when Mickey Thomas took over for Marty Balin.. and Mickey sings this song.
Dive into their catalog listen for miracles is one of the songs and this guy saying on Elvin Bishop fool around and fell in love got to check that video out
Bizmatic, you're really having fun listening to all these different styles of music aren't you. A true music connoisseur for sure. Always thought that was a tasty guitar lead. Fits the song perfectly. And as for Mickey Thomas on vocals, the man can sing his ass off. When you get a chance, you should check out the video on UA-cam of Wet Willie performing Grits Ain't Groceries live from 09/10/1973. You'll enjoy it!
JEFFERSON STARSHIP, "JANE" In the 60's there was JEFFERSON AIRPLANE, then in the 70'S they morphed into the JEFFERSON STARSHIP. Into the the 80's. The 7O'S the lead singer was Marty Balin. Then when the 80's arrived so did lead singer Mickey Thomas. With those high pitched vocals was unmistakably one of a kind. He came from a band. ELVIN BISHOP. known for the hit song. "FOOLED AROUND, AND FELL IN LOVE".
This guy can sing, flat out!! Explosive song!! Not a fan of Jefferson Starship but as far as an ass kicking song that has it all, this is definitely it!!! 🔥
Mickey Thomas on vocals, unbelievable voice! He also sang, Fooled around and fell in love in the Elvin Bishop band. I don't know if you reacted to that yet? Great song!
Definitely one of the greatest performances in my 60 years of listening to music!! Mickey Thomas is the best of the best. I believe he's 73 still performing saw a recent video of a concert he still sounds great.
Just a new incarnation of the original band… with a new male lead vocalist (Mickey Thomas) Most of what was considered the ‘Talent’ from ‘Airplane’ went in a different direction and formed a group called Hot Th a. That being said, Janenis one of my all time favorite rock songs. It was HEAVILY influenced by Toto’s Hold the Line.
Jefferson Airplane couple of different members turned into Jefferson Starship, then. Starship. The band evolved. Trademark copyright, you know how the recording business goes.
So glad you got to this one soon after hearing Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love". Jefferson Starship went through a mid-life crisis in the 70's and tried to update their image from the late 60's San Fran hippie counterculture. They were considered by some to be sell outs. It didn't help that they had a massive radio hit in the 80's that I refuse to name. It was a boring song played to death by every radio station. However, this song right here rocks. They also had a massive hit album called Red Octopus which contained hit single, "Miracles" in the early 70's. That was before Mickey Thomas joined them as a lead vocalist. If you do happen to delve into the album Red Octopus, which I highly recommend, please don't miss the song "Fastbuck Freddie" which has some killer fiddle and Grace Slick's voice, fabulous as it always was.
I prefer Jefferson Airplane over (most of) Jefferson Starship. The first album under this name was "Blows Against the Empire" which had Airplane members with Grateful Dead & CSN&Y. This is one of their albums that did not feature Grace Slick, who I love as a vocalist.
Biz if you dig in on this band start with the old stuff and work forward. They go from old school psychedelic rock to real commercial hits as the years roll by the band changes, and they change management.
No autotune. Welcome to the art of the rock singer!
How could anyone not love this song?
Some years' back, I heard that Jefferson Airplane/Starship were playing near me. I said to my wife, 'we have to go 'cos they could all be dead soon'. So we went and it was brilliant. I love this story - thank you!
Never underestimate the silver-haired rockers!
One of my favorite songs ever. Mickey Thomas just kills it on this but the whole thing is really really good. Mickey Thomas is vastly underrated vocalist... 😎😎
And continues to be if you count this reaction… unreal
LOL. In what way is he underrated?
They are the same. They just changed the name. They've been kicking ass for decades! What a great song! Count on me is another one you should give a listen to, and of course, Miracles! Those are must listen to songs! Peace!
Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship and Starship are all the same band
Yep. In that order too
“Familiar Stranger” “ Find Your Way Back” and “ No Way Out “ are more Starship 🔥
🎸💯 Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship ARE the same "basic" band. This cut is badass! This vocalist sang Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love"! Dope song! Thanks Biz‼🔥 ☮ ❤ 🎶
AN EXCELLENT EXPLANATION OF THIS SONGS LYRICS RIGHT ON THE MONEY
lead singer of this song is the same 1 that sang, fool around and fell in love by elvin bishop
You are correct, Mickey Thomas
PURE ORGANIC 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Woo! Mickey Thomas has some amazing vocal chops!!
I’ve said this countless times and I’ll say it again, Mickey Thomas the vocalist is in my opinion is the best rock singer out of any of his peers due to range, pitch, clarity and ping. Their best song imo.
I agree.
I agree as well.
And I agree as well, too.
It makes me feel freshly squeezed.
One of the best rock songs of all time
Mickey Thomas's 😳 voice!! Fooled Around And Fell In Love, too.
Wow, I never heard that.
Simply one of the best rock songs ever written…
Sweeter than Honey, Miracles off of the album Red Octopus are for me my favorites when named Starship. This is a great tune as well though. Love the heavy edge.
This song is the jam from back in the day! 🔥
The great Mickey Thomas (Fooled around and fell in love) on lead vocals. Legend.
Yep, Micky Thomas. The same guy you loved singing “Fooled around and fell in love” with Elvin Bishop.
Guitar solo by Craig Chaquico. He went on to have a nice solo career playing jazz acoustic guitar.
Jefferson Airplane/Starship has had a bewildering number of people in the band over the years, literally dozens, but the core group was:
Jorma Kaukonen: Lead Guitar
Paul Kantner: Rhythm Guitar
Marty Balin: Vocals
Jack Casady: Bass
Grace Slick: Vocals
Spencer Dryden: Drums.
The most notable change was when Mickey Thomas took over for Marty Balin.. and Mickey sings this song.
And after Jorma and Jack formed Hot Tuna and eventually left to concentrate on that project.
By far, the best song by Jefferson Starship. I remember this song well from the late 70's and early 80's.
I've loved this song since I was 15 yrs old .❤ I'm happy you all are loving it, too.😊
Mickey Thomas could blast like very few others.
You had it right, it is basically the same band.
The lead guitarist was in high school and one of his teachers knew some of the band members and arranged an audition for the kid. The rest is history,
Dive into their catalog listen for miracles is one of the songs and this guy saying on Elvin Bishop fool around and fell in love got to check that video out

Mickey Thomas sand with Elvin Bishop on, FOOLED AROUND AND FELL IN LOVE. He is great.
SWEET. " LOVE IS LIKE OXYGEN"

Drank a couple Heinekens with Craig, talked about the band and music...great evening...
I always thought this song was a banger! I think it’s their best one. Thanks!
Craig Chiquito on that lead is one underrated guitar god
❤Wind therapy on the Harley....crank it up !
Airplane split and select members regrouped as Jefferson Starship. Check out "Miracles".
monster tune...
Jefferson Airplane couple of different members turned into Jefferson Starship, then. Starship. The band evolved. Trademark copyright, you know how the recording business goes.
The singer is great in this
LOL... come get the "Shtick"!😄
🤣🤣😂

Add Doobie Brothers to that list, and you know why.
Thank you for not naming it. Such an obvious piece of trash. Any semblance of respect I had for them disappeared after that one.
Jefferson Airplane morphed into Jefferson Starship!!!👌👌✌✌👍👍😁😁
Rememvertthis.Off the Chart.🥺❤️
Jefferson Airplane over time and some personnel changes/additions evolved into Jefferson Starship which later involved into just plain Starship...
💯👏🏽👍🏾
Good tune!
Gotta do Jefferson Starship's Miracles, the long version.
Jane goes hard. There's another JANE song, I can't think of who does it,great song too. Who knows?
Rock music go hard we all go through the same emotions
Then they became just plain ol Starship
The Biz taking care of bizness...enjoy that you review not the same song as everyone else. Take care.
I prefer Jefferson Airplane over (most of) Jefferson Starship. The first album under this name was "Blows Against the Empire" which had Airplane members with Grateful Dead & CSN&Y. This is one of their albums that did not feature Grace Slick, who I love as a vocalist.
Great song and if you like harmony pls more AIC 😁
Biz if you dig in on this band start with the old stuff and work forward. They go from old school psychedelic rock to real commercial hits as the years roll by the band changes, and they change management.
If you haven't done them yet, pick any song from Def Leppard's Pyromania album they kill it on every single track on that album . . .
🤘🎸✌🙏❤❤👍
#200 on the like_omiter
Jefferson airplane and starship are the same band. Starship is the comeback part from the 60s
They were confusing with all of their name changes. ❤️✌️
But always good!!
Jefferson Starship and Jefferson Airplane same band few different members.
They are the same group. They just changed to starship from airplane
By the way check out any song on ted nugent's cat scratch fever but one of the other songs. Pure classic rock
some same members in those groups always changed the name.
Props for using the Album version rather than the live version, on the live version he doesn't hit that one super high note
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💋💋💋💋💋💋
Some members might change but not the keys.
Good eh 😉
I see WD40 in your future. 😆❤️❤️❤️✌️
Lmao
***after the 60s
Another reviewer thought the lead singer was a female. Hahahaha
Key members*
you wonder why you cant take some of the things you say seriously? Thats called self awareness bro! It means you're not a twat.
Glad im not a twat 🙏🏿
back when they weren't woke garbage...
Jefferson Airplane > Jefferson Starship > Starship
