This man is an international treasure. We can't afford to lose him. I love his films and his music. A multi-talented genius in our time. I hope he's not forgotten in my lifetime.
Assault on Precinct 13... what a theme! Composer Hans Zimmer once openly said to Carpenter that it was his favorite score and in his own words "i've always tried to steal from it". Carpenters reply was: help yourself :)
Interestingly, that's actually one of the very few movies he did not compose the score for. He brought in Ennio Morricone (famous for composing for old Westerns like The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly) to write the score to The Thing. I think Morricone did a remarkable job matching Carpenter's style, though.
Yeah, it really feels like Morricone was trying to sound like Carpenter on his THING score to the point that I always assumed John Carpenter scored that film!
I know, it's ironic, that Carpenter didn't do the soundtrack to The Thing. Most of Morricone's score is orchestral and is quite different from what JC usually does. The only piece that has shades of Carpenter is the main theme and that was done at Carpenter's request, so Morricone decided to do something in JC's style.
Can relate to him to quite an extent. Seem to share his sentiment toward music and movies, and his style. Wonderful director and composer, one of top favorites. Wish he would create Prince of Darkness series as teased.
Ha, my first Korg was an O1/W, too. The pro version. And I still have it. My next one was a Korg Prophecy, which I bought right when it came out. Unfortunately I couldn’t afford a Z1 shortly after. I still got to get my hands on one :)
I saw Escape from New York and The Thing in our classic 50's movie theater in NY where I grew up and they were both knock outs. I also really like Christine and The Fog. The 80's is in my DNA coding. It's who I am. I have a few classic Korgs. They are elegant top notch machines. They can really take you where you need to go. I think they are awesome.
You know all that complaining I did about your awful choice of endorsement artists (1 Direction etc)? Well you can forget that, this fixes everything. :) Wonderful!!!
Belodias The music for Thor: Ragnarok was composed and performed by Mark Mothersbaugh, a founding member of DEVO, and like Carpenter, is well known for his extensive use of synthesizers, as well as composing memorable scores.
I'm not trying to be rude or stupid about anything, it's just that I literally have no one to ask in my real-life. Is Carpenter suffering from dementia? Does he have a bad case of acid reflux? He's chewing gum here and not smoking. His eyes dial in and out, yet he still has a sharp sense about him. They're just questions.
I mostly love carpenter’s scores, (especially prince of darkness) but try watching a few of his movies one after another. You begin to see he’s a one trick pony. Example: watch prince of darkness, then they live. My wife immediately said “is this the same soundtrack as the last one?’ Low, ominous notes without any melody. It’s a signature thing with him, his identifiable style, but also proves what he says about himself: he’s very limited as a musician. They live is his worst score. It’s one theme through the entire movie. Gets very grating. And the out of tune harp over top doesn’t help. His best theme isn’t even in his own movie: Halloween 3.
He is pretty unique , a director that vizualises into sound and image seamless , and has its own character , i would go as far he had some impact on new wave music as well

You just want that at least some people would live forever.
Favorite movie director with favorite synth manufacturer, so much win!

It's definitely one of John Carpenter's best tracks, and one that is sample worthy within the hip hop community.
John is the reason I got into synth. Can’t understate his influence on me as a musician.
Master and hero for movie.
Unforgettable !!!
🎥🎞🎬😝✌️🚀🥁🥁🍫
Ladies and Gentlemen...THIS right here IS THE GREATEST Movie Director the World has gave us...Also his Soundtracks...just timeless

Always loved his work
I've always admired John Carpenter's music Studios he has in his house.
Has to be my favourite movie Director. Made such amazing films, but also doing his own music. None bigger than Halloween
Still, and always be the king of dark! Thank you John for all the inspiration, you are a true one of a kind ....trail blazer!
When Mr Carpenter was 40, he looked like a 70 year old man. Now that he is 70, he still looks like that.
Love you John! and love synthers... the thing is a really pieace of art in everyaspecti. Thanks a lot for all ur work. Cheers from Argentina
The London show was Sick, Carpenter is the man
Now I'm curious to how the *ribbon morpher* sound like.
John Carpenter is the best.
I looked at him and immediately heard "The Thing" soundtrack. Great!

Carpenter did work closely with Morricone in how he wanted it to sound like and the mood of the score.
John Carpenter is a legend to me
John is tha MAN!
This guy, just love 'em!
Great guy, loved seeing his show here in the Netherlands!
Yes, yes, YES!! 😍
Good for you John
Can relate to him to quite an extent. Seem to share his sentiment toward music and movies, and his style. Wonderful director and composer, one of top favorites. Wish he would create Prince of Darkness series as teased.
Completely agree!👊
I would die for the chance to work with JC even for a day... The guy is a true living legend who is so underrated...
Love this man

I just found the Ribbon Morpher Bass he was talking about on the Triton VSTi. it definitely sounds good!
Ha, my first Korg was an O1/W, too. The pro version. And I still have it. My next one was a Korg Prophecy, which I bought right when it came out. Unfortunately I couldn’t afford a Z1 shortly after. I still got to get my hands on one :)

That is a nice looking room.
You know all that complaining I did about your awful choice of endorsement artists (1 Direction etc)? Well you can forget that, this fixes everything. :) Wonderful!!!
He looks good.
im about to go look up the ribbon morpher on the korg trition right now! lol
can barely hear the audio. very quiet.
That's because they are also emulating Carpenter's hearing at his age... :)
Buy yourself a volume button.
Turn up your volume or listen better
My 2nd Korg was an 01/W, but my first was a DW8000.
got my 01/w right here thuh big one 88
Oh, John . . . you had me at 01/W.
Mr Carpenter's all-time favourite keeper is Korg's Monotribe
Now I don't feel so bad using Hosa cables ;)
I have korg kronos 2 61 keys :)
Didn't know he's a composer too!
John, Alan Howarth. and Jan Hammer are the Kings of synth.
Here is a tribute to John Carpenter (in musical form):soundcloud.com/lennartmusic/suicide-booth-we-are-the-6
He looks like the main villain in Big trouble in little China
Mans still got skillz
Great education
I love Fire Marshal Bill
Audio is too low. Student production?
I don't think so, the new radio and broadcast levels have been reduced drastically. Down to something like -14 Db.
alright :) !
Is that Johnny knoxville
So all the voices you hear are from the Korg, or is that Carpenter speaking?
a director and a musician! frgn awzm! you cant find that in todays holywood scene
Ribbon Warfare??
do you realize how much I could sell that gum for on Ebay if he spit it out?
Cmon KORG you cant mix the audio better than this? I cant even hear him. Its one mic. ONE MIC.
I thought this was a video where John Carpenter shared his love for Korg from Thor: Ragnorok.
Belodias The music for Thor: Ragnarok was composed and performed by Mark Mothersbaugh, a founding member of DEVO, and like Carpenter, is well known for his extensive use of synthesizers, as well as composing memorable scores.
Wtf? Why didn't you get him to play it?
A video about sound with the audio almost silent, Mmmm skip.
I'm not trying to be rude or stupid about anything, it's just that I literally have no one to ask in my real-life. Is Carpenter suffering from dementia? Does he have a bad case of acid reflux? how come horror movie directors and medical examiners always look like the crypt keeper?
he plays one as well in bodybags
The man is 70 years old. It happens. It'll happen to you, too.
Yeah but Carpenter has looked that way since the early 90s.
Is he the real Lo-Pan ?
İ love him in the serie The walking deads
Wrong guy, girl. Sorry. It's not him.
But he uses midi controllers live.
0:43 _> So we can see John Carpenter also has blue tooth...
He's chewing gum
@@Nicholas_Torres Ha ha, yes I saw that :-D
To all the comments about how he looks and /or his age...Don't fret about it, time will get all of you too!! muahahaha!!
i was hoping he played something jajaja
Watch out Mr.Carpenter...I saw someTHING in the room....
I want to see a Rob Bottin reunion with him ffs.
not likely to happen as Bottin falls out with most of the directors he's worked with...
Everything's CGI anyway or most of it today, sadly.
and they said michael myers had black eyes this guys eyes are black
No demo sound, *aud*io barely *aud*ible -> thumbs down.

One of the best director but not as a musician.
Nonsense. He's created some absolutely iconic music.
He is pretty unique , a director that vizualises into sound and image seamless , and has its own character , i would go as far he had some impact on new wave music as well
scary and gross
audio is awfully quiet
