You would never know he is one of the true great musical geniuses of our time. Just seems down to earth and likable, doesn't need to play anything technical to impress. Rare man.
Where is the respect and love? This man has brought so much music to the world allot of us are working because of his music. Who cares about how it looks . Do you have a preset with your name on it out the box? Really y'all need to cut it and pay respect to this man. He has done nothing to you.
Herbie is like no other musician. He is responsible for some of the best , and worst music of all time. That is respectable big time. I worship his time with Miles Davis.
John Lennon Fanatic he have many other great albums too, which I hope you know! The "downside" of having a well-known album is that others are put in its shadow
For piano and music, it doesn't get any better than Herbie Hancock. I wore his album "Maiden Voyage" out when I was young and "Dolphin Dance" is one of the greatest jazz compositions of all time.
Sorry, not even close. Herbie is one of the most important, influential pianists in jazz history. He's a living legend. Like Bird, Coltrane, et al, his impact on jazz music and the huge number of young pianists he influenced will never be surpassed. Not by Brad Mehldau or anyone else.
My favorite Jazz Composer: Herbie Hancock. PERIOD. I uploaded a clip of me playing “Watermelon Man” on my IG and tagged his name on it. 😮= my face when his IG liked it. I love Herbie’s music so much that I made a customized CD of my favorite songs and called it (Spectrum). Featuring the songs: 1. Spiraling Prism 2. Sun Touch 3. Tell Me A Bedtime Story 4. I Thought It Was You 5. Mimosa 6. Just Around The Corner 7. I Have A Dream 8. Sunlight 9. Fat Albert Rotunda 10. No Means Yes 11. Textures Herbie🙇🏾♂️🥰🙇🏾♂️
Hancock received considerable attention when, in May 1963,[7] he joined Davis's Second Great Quintet. Davis personally sought out Hancock, whom he saw as one of the most promising talents in jazz. The rhythm section Davis organized was young but effective, comprising bassist Ron Carter, 17-year-old drummer Williams, and Hancock on piano. After George Coleman and Sam Rivers each took a turn at the saxophone spot, the quintet gelled with Wayne Shorter on tenor saxophone. This quintet is often regarded as one of the finest jazz ensembles[13]yet. The second great quintet was where Hancock found his own voice as a pianist. Not only did he find new ways to use common chords, but he also popularized chords that had not previously been used in jazz. Hancock also developed a unique taste for "orchestral" accompaniment - using quartal harmony and Debussy-like harmonies, with stark contrasts then unheard of in jazz. With Williams and Carter he wove a labyrinth of rhythmic intricacy on, around and over existing melodic and chordal schemes. In the latter half of the 1960s their approach became so sophisticated and unorthodox that conventional chord changes would hardly be discernible; hence their improvisational concept would become known as "Time, No Changes"
Herbie Hancock plays so good that he doesn't need to play, you just know he's a legend. This demo is more about a discussion about the Korg than him making a demo song. Jordon Rudess does that. And yes he might have only a few months to play with this but also remember back in the 80's he was bringing synth sounds into jazz so why not have him demo Korg, it's a perfect fit.
Absolutely right Tim S. Any kid at the Guitar Center can demo a Kronos for you... Herbie on the other hand could take this one instrument and entertain a Concert Hall full of people for many great nights of music. Herbie and Brian Bell... nearly beat the guys that ended up inventing Midi. Herbie is educated as an Electrical Engineer so understands the inner workings of these fine instruments way more deeply than most.
I remember when the Korg M1 came out. ...oh boy was that exciting. All other keyboards were like toys in comparison. Lots of respect for Korg and Herbie!
Because this was a stupid and ridiculous video. He looked like a little kid in a candy store but didn't play much for a pianist of his stature. Herbie should be embarrassed about this video. Afterall he has a reputation to uphold.
spada60 The fact that he appears as a kid in a candy store is the reason why he's progressed so far and become one of the most influential musicians alive.. keeping that childlike curiosity enables constant rapid development. He's just noodling, but the best songs came as a result of noodling...
Well said, Tim. That "noodling" has earned him Millions of Dollars. And Herbie has no need to slam out a Concert on a Korg Ad just to uphold his reputation. His reputation is solid with 14 Grammys and 34 Nominations plus an Academy Award.... no Herbie doesn't have to do anything but just be seen with a Korg... to sell it. www.grammy.com/grammys/artists/herbie-hancock
I grew up listening to your music, when you came out with Rockit, i just jammed it loud on my boombox . Thanks for all the memories in the 80's as a kid. You're awesome.
Just goes to show, whether you're a 3rd grader in music class, or a world-class jazz musician, it's always fun to fuck around and make silly noises in keyboard soundbanks.
Mind-bending, thought expanding, Herbie Hancock is the definition of Legend! He has a never-ending stream of new sounds that just amaze and keep me as a lifelong fan.
"I have a lot things goin' on at the same time"...Mr. Hancock says here. That's excactly how I experience 'every' KORG synth or workstation. "They stimulate my creativity"...and that, also, is excactly right. The power of KORG is: it really plays as if it's alive.
I must admit Kronos is a very complicated keyboard to use, great to explore and to create new sound.....never heard before, it has a great sound quality.....and so on
Wow Herbie must be amazed at seeing this technology after all those years using big monosynths.......how far we have all come.....I wonder what Korg has up their sleeve next
Not sure what quite happened. I love Korg, had a Kronos, but i was linked to this video after watching herbie demo a DX7 in the 1980’s and he played with so much passion in that video that I always expecting this to be off the scale. But he doesn’t do any playing like I was saw in his 80’s video. Would have loved to hear him on the Kronos
well with yamaha upgrading, I know korg will do something really mind blowing. korg started the smooth transition with the original kronos. Now here comes everyone else so I know korg is observing. hell they just made a basic keyboard. ek50 something like that. That's nothing like korg. They have something really big in plan and it's going to blow tf out our minds
I just don't buy that an artist as prolific as Herbie is using a Kronos to make his records. He has access to probably any instrument and any studio in the world. But it does sound nice.
An instrument like Kronos? This is possibly one of the most versatile and best sounding keyboards out there. Rick Wakeman is using two of them now. As is Jordan Rudess, and a whole host of exceptional rock (and jazz) keyboardists.
He's famous for embracing a lot of new technology and mixing it with the old. I've even seen him use ipad Apps once in a show to control the keyboards he had.
I love Herbie. I respond the same way when I get behind a Korg. I totally geek out. I am a huge Korg fan but as of late they have disappointed me by cheapening the actual keys. The sounds are great don't get me wrong but they need to make the actual keyboard more like the yamaha or Kawaii keyboards. Weighted keys that strike actual hammers, with full key length that is deeply embedded within the instrument opposed to pivoting on the edge of the upper part of the instrument.
I trust Herbie and Teddy Riley when it comes to keyboards and software. Herbie has been on these arp sounds since the 70's/80's. Then he did away with them. He's been incorporating them back into his shows lately though.
Yeah people don't get it. Asking a musician to sit in front of an instrument and talk about it might make them uncomfortable do they just smile and say some things. The man wants to jam on it. You might have better luck if it was on harmony or music theory, but that's going to be painful for most people 😋. Then it's still uncomfortable if you chat about the theory but don't sound it out on your instrument.
You would never know he is one of the true great musical geniuses of our time. Just seems down to earth and likable, doesn't need to play anything technical to impress. Rare man.
Herbie Hancock has absolutely nothing left to prove.
He's been a committed, practicing Buddhist for 40 years and personally I think it shows.
@@adamf.4823 Whatever it is he's a Mensch. A great man.
He can only talk and doesn't even need to play
Where is the respect and love? This man has brought so much music to the world allot of us are working because of his music. Who cares about how it looks . Do you have a preset with your name on it out the box? Really y'all need to cut it and pay respect to this man. He has done nothing to you.

LIKE YOU IAM pubic lice, eh?
Bashanvibe Who's speaking bad about him?
I always loved his Head Hunters album.
The Best!
John Lennon Fanatic he have many other great albums too, which I hope you know! The "downside" of having a well-known album is that others are put in its shadow
the first album i ever bought
Headhunters I agree and nice endorsement check from Korg would come in handy

For piano and music, it doesn't get any better than Herbie Hancock. I wore his album "Maiden Voyage" out when I was young and "Dolphin Dance" is one of the greatest jazz compositions of all time.
It does. It's called Brad Mehldau.
G Rubalcaba...
CrimSun who the fukk is that??
I agree. G.... well said
Am a big fan of Herbie, & my all time fav album of his is “Mr Hands” 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
My favorite Jazz Composer: Herbie Hancock. PERIOD.

Herbie🙇🏾♂️🥰🙇🏾♂️
With this keyboard, Herbie Hancock will now be able to make the exact same music as the rest of us!
That's funny but true :)
Homeless Balloon i sure hope not. Give him a MOOG.
Actually he was using ARP synthesizers 70's & 80's
Homeless Balloon haha. Great comment!
Yep 👍
He's like a kid playing with his favorite toy.
Romancefantasy fasho. the kronos is so lovely

Love Herbie. Herbie and Korg=Winning Combination.
Yeah! This was really great! More videos like this please. Love Herbie.
Man, one day I will have this in my collection. One day.
Why the big amount of dislikes on this video? Herbie Hancock is a fantastic musician, and the Kronos isn't a bad instrument.
Because this was a stupid and ridiculous video. He looked like a little kid in a candy store but didn't play much for a pianist of his stature. Herbie should be embarrassed about this video. Afterall he has a reputation to uphold.

Kronos with The Boss!!!
Yes, i,m playing just like him, just improvising a lot, and so as he sayed, it makes you do more
I grew up listening to your music, when you came out with Rockit, i just jammed it loud on my boombox . Thanks for all the memories in the 80's as a kid. You're awesome.
Just goes to show, whether you're a 3rd grader in music class, or a world-class jazz musician, it's always fun to fuck around and make silly noises in keyboard soundbanks.
Warm human being. Love Herbie.
Herbie is among the best in my opinion.
Herbie said a lot about this keyboard without actually saying anything lol
Thats a typical musician thing. Talking but actually saying nothing. Its up to you what you understand ?!?
My name is Dariel - not Daniel: And Iwould rather say that he says something important!
Stevie and Herbie the top of the line for me
Mind-bending, thought expanding, Herbie Hancock is the definition of Legend! He has a never-ending stream of new sounds that just amaze and keep me as a lifelong fan.
A guy from the Golden Age of Music experiencing a modern digital piano
What a top bloke. Such a talant and sounds just as humbled by the Kronos as the rest of us.
"I have a lot things goin' on at the same time"...Mr. Hancock says here. That's excactly how I experience 'every' KORG synth or workstation. "They stimulate my creativity"...and that, also, is excactly right. The power of KORG is: it really plays as if it's alive.
well we all know that he is a great musician, and that this promo was a shot in the dark.
I always amaze, in 80s he played "Rock It". Out of his traditional play and succeed.
I love "Head Hunter's" "Fat Albert Rotunda" and "Imperial Isles".😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Joshua Grant - Empyrean isles!
Krog is the best Keyboard hands down.
I have one of those too. Thank s Herbie for this tiny demostration 👍
Waiting for the next new song that samples 6:18
Carl Scripter Debbie Does Dallas?
he already used those sounds live I think?
Herbie the Legend!!!!
What audio interface was used to record the Korg Kronos in this video?
Great musician
I must admit Kronos is a very complicated keyboard to use, great to explore and to create new sound.....never heard before, it has a great sound quality.....and so on
can I get those wooden end pieces for my Kronos X? I'm thinking about getting a new Prologue and want them to match.
I guess not :(
4:34 You can put colours on them! :D
Wow Herbie must be amazed at seeing this technology after all those years using big monosynths.......how far we have all come.....I wonder what Korg has up their sleeve next
axs203 a dearer one called the 5
Korg you're a beats in development ☺️👋😊💟🙂 This is is my dream keyboard.... I can't use typing to explain how much I'm in love with this product
love Herbie Hancock and Korg Kronos
What is the preset at 1.43?
a beast of technology and a master of jazz!
Herbie, what happened to your Yamaha DX7?
Il Maestro plays the Kronos. One of a kind, one of the greats!
Not sure what quite happened. I love Korg, had a Kronos, but i was linked to this video after watching herbie demo a DX7 in the 1980’s and he played with so much passion in that video that I always expecting this to be off the scale. Herbie he is my favourite keyboard player
Man, music is powerful!
Herbie is one of the best musicians ever . He's using spectrasonics omnisphere and keyscape these days. Kronos for midi controller
Doors Wide Open Music 😂😂😂
Is it just me or does it feels he has never sat in front of the KRONOS before and got paid to talk?
He play Kronos in many gigs
If you're looking for a good bass sound like Chameleon, a distorted 303 works great.
Chameleon on Acid sounds like a great idea
There's.actually a patch in the offcial ARP Odyssey Patch book called chameleon bass
I always have to laugh when Herbie is around. :D
6:40 that 80s r&b sound.
How about showing us some grand pianos, Rhodes, Wurlitzer and B3 sounds?
Well, when he needs those sounds he probably uses grand pianos (fazioli) Rhodes, Wurlitzer, and B3.
Unnecessary! It's understood that they're there.
Have you guys ever thought that maybe he didn't want to play anything commercial. Lol, also this man is up in age I have great respect for him.
Herbie is the BEST !
What was that?? 1:45-2:30
Was that cool jazz lol
John Carpenter: “YOOOOOOOO” 😂
3:05 to 4:21
Great Herbie ! ⭐👍
Head Hunter is the best album ever..
R.I.P Herbie, what a hero!
He ain't dead, A-H.

Great man)
Mootbooxle should have done the demo for this keyboard.. for those who don't know mootbooxle his videos are on UA-cam
Ravedaze Yes Moot definately has sone chops! I like his video where he's playing those little keybeds lol 😁
Mr. Hancock looks like such a cool dude
Sorry for being so late to the game but is Herbie Hancock cranking out these dark synth jams still? Didn’t know this was part of his repertoire
Remember Mr. Hancock @sesame street with a Fairlight.
Rock it!
Crazy to think this guy's almost 80!
Great keyboard!!
Would love a Kronos and a jam with Herbie : )
I just don't buy that an artist as prolific as Herbie is using a Kronos to make his records. He has access to probably any instrument and any studio in the world. But it does sound nice.

The Oasys still sounds warmer to my ears.
The Oasys is too complicated, doesn't have as much versatility, and doesn't have nine sound engines
He's famous for embracing a lot of new technology and mixing it with the old. I've even seen him use ipad Apps once in a show to control the keyboards he had.
SteeVtheRipper it's called preference
Herbie is a Legend... damn just once I want to see them Get Stevie Wonder to review a keyboard.
Very cool Floyd/Tubular Bells vibe
Porque não mostra os pianos ep's leads horldes?
Herbie Hancock plays Didier Marouani
I love Herbie. I respond the same way when I get behind a Korg. I totally geek out. I am a huge Korg fan but as of late they have disappointed me by cheapening the actual keys. I liked HH the most when he used the Fender Rhodes, Echoplex and the Hohner Clavinet.
when he started playing @ 1:45 it reminded me of Rick & Morty lmfao
I need help for Christmas as a College grad gift they wanna buy me this "Korg KRONOS" or the "Roland RD-2000"????
You can score some serious movies with this.
Herbie is the coldest!
This dude. Legend.
and then playing Dream theater song...
complete dumb ass.
Who thumbs down a fuckin legend?
Nothing sounds better than a Kronos after a couple of LSD drops!
Herbie, you have a best karma arcitect in yourself, much better than mr. korg's one. :3
And the Oasys? Oh that was sooo last year! 🙄
Delightful
Kronos is really great. But im surprised he loves the Gospel hits which already existing on the korg triton classic
Korg was also a later favorite of Joe Zawinul.
very informative thanks
valerian commander on the keys
Legend.
Hey Herbie Check MainStage 3! ;D
I trust Herbie and Teddy Riley when it comes to keyboards and software. Herbie has been on these arp sounds since the 70's/80's. Then he did away with them. He's been incorporating them back into his shows lately though.
