So many 😂 I cannot choose cause here in the Philippines, there are so many local foods from a different Cities & Countrysides.. ❤❤❤ Filipino Culture is so amazing and very interesting to learn & to try too.
Both of you came prepared that's why yous are having fun and taste the beautiful flavors of the Philippines ☺️ well done doing your research guys. Kudos! Filipino here watching in the UK and jealous & drooling while watching this video w
Hi guys! Normally, fish sauce is to taste. Kinda like salt when you don’t taste much of the flavors of the dish. It’s meant to put into the soup to make the soup salty to your liking. Try putting 1 tablespoon of fish sauce next time if the soup is bland.
Good to know! Thanks for sharing! We were trying to clarify that with the staff but couldn't really understand how to eat that dish properly so I just assumed that it's a dipping sauce 😜 My bad! [Karolina]
By loving the Philippines and the Filipinos, you will be loved back by Filipinos around the world by subscribing in your channel. New subscriber here ❤❤❤
The ube on the sides and on top of the Halo-halo is not ube ice cream but ube halaya (sweetened mashed purple yam), which is a dessert in itself. Sometimes, they do put ube ice cream and leche flan on top but every restaurant does Halo-halo's presentation differently (but usually same ingredients and same method of eating - mix it well before devouring! Also, ube ice cream and leche flan are just added toppings and not part of the main ingredients).
Eating halu halo keep the cover mix it well / stir it incorporate all ingredients so it'll be flavorsome.Halu-halo means mix-mix.If your not sure how to eat certain food you order ask the crew who serves you. Then only you will enjoy Filipino delicasies.
I am a Filipino/Canadian. Whenever I visit Philippines I will just eat the local veggies , fruits, fresh broiled fish or steam. For the meat Mang Inasal chicken is the best not tired to have it every day if I don’t have a choice. I will skip the pork or beef but the goat meat ( kaldereta) you must try. Before you exit the country you must try to go to a Buffet so you will find all Filipino dishes. This way you know what is the best Filipino food. Find a buffet restaurant charging around 1,000 pesos per head for a good food. Do not go to cheaper buffet they have less choices. Good luck ! Thanks for visiting Phil.
Filipino food is a acquired taste. We loved it. You guys were so open to something different.Hope you're enjoying your time in Manila. Sending you much love❤❤ from Richmond, VA. Jim and Harriet
7:05 When she dipped it like that I literally screamed "You're gonna die!" HAHA. Ya'll should go easy with Filipino fish and soy sauce. Bless ur hearts. 😁
Yes, you're only supposed to sprinkle a bit of that sauce onto the meat before eating it. Fish sauce in itself is salty. The calamansi juice and red chili peppers are there just to add a bit of tanginess and spice but it would still taste like fish sauce.
nice! yes most filo dishes have to be mixed with rice. I could imagine how salty the adobo would be without the rice :) some filipinos consume 1-2 or 3 cups of rice with a dish (depending on the dish and how hungry they are lol), but yes can understand that if you are not used to having that much rice, it may feel weird. another great video, all the best!
Thanks for the tips! We’ve actually spotted that sometimes people are having a HUGE pile of rice in their plates and it’s like never-ending haha 😂 But it tastes amazing especially with different sauces/soups! 🙏🏼 Thank you so much for watching! It was so much fun to film this delicious episode!!!
Great video!👍 one thing you need to know about Filipino Food, it is always eaten with rice. Rice acts as a neutralizer. So, take a dish like Adobo for example which is salty by itself. You eat it with rice and it becomes less salty. Also when eating Filipino Food, in a plate or bowl of rice, you put a bit of the dish like Adobo, egg, vege, etc.. on top of the rice and mix it a bit then eat it with “Spoon and Fork”. (we don’t use fork to eat rice as we get more rice from a spoon) This way of eating applies to eating soup as well. When you are provided with a sauce like vinegar, soy sauce with citrus, etc.., it serves as a dipping sauce for the meat. (Never pour it over the rice or else it’ll be too salty or too sour.) The key thing about eating Filipino Food is that you mixed the portion of the dish you want to eat with the rice excluding the dipping sauce. The reason a lot of foreigners didn’t have a good experience eating Filipino food because they ate it incorrectly or the wrong way; They would eat it the way they would eat a dish from their own country. Take Adobo for example. Some foreigner will eat the adobo by itself or a little of the rice instead of eating the entire adobo fish with the rice provided. If you eat it this way, of course the dish will be salty and not as enjoyable to eat. Filipinos like contrasting flavours and textures. That’s one reason we like to mix the dishes with rice. We want to make sure that in one scoop of a spoon we have a bit of everything like rice , meat, vege, egg., chilli, whatever is included with the dish. If you are unsure how to eat a dish, just ask a local how he or she would eat the dish.
Try Manam as well, its a good place for foreigners to start to adjust their palate to Filipino food. After that try the authentic versions (honestly I prefer home-cooked compared to restos)
The best food I had there was out in the country. Lechon Baboy cooked traditional style. A whole pig wrapped in Banana leaves cooked in a in ground (pit) oven for 8-10 hours. So good.
Take that leap of faith man. Give yourself a break from the daily rush and get a vacation. Enjoy beautiful places in the Philippines and eat at your heart's content
Here's to you having more meals in the Philippines. I do enjoy watching your videos (I started watching when you were in East Asia) and am glad to see that you've made it to our side of the world. As others have pointed out, we like to eat our viands with rice because it tempers the stronger flavor profiles (soy, salt, spice, etc). Fish sauce is more to taste, used sparingly as a finish rather than a Western-style dip. It pairs beautifully with grilled pork belly in my opinion although most people tend to pair it with seafood.
On morning breakfast you must tru tocilog means tocino egg and rice., tapsilog means beef marinade egg and rice. For karolina bangsilog means milkfish or bangus egg and rice your sauce for the fish is vinegar.... stay safe and god bless. Also longsilog its good....
So true alot of foreigners are not used to or afraid to try different food they are not used to. One of the many benefits of traveling around the world is that you can learn alot from a culture just experiencing new tyoe of food and enjoy explore.❤
Oh thank goodness, yes! I am relieved that you listened to comments stating the other inasal is not the original. They did not even explain to you that the yellow liquid was chicken oil that you poured unto your rice. It is but right that you asked about the lumpiang Shanghai is Filipino. Let me invite you to try eating at a carinderia or home cooked small restaurants and try the vegetable and fish dishes. Just ask for the bagoong/shrimp paste on the side if you do not want to keep eating meat. You should try seafoods as I myself mostly eat seafoods everytime I go home. Frozen seafood just cannot compare. Try the native fruits and do not skimp on these. Try kare-kare/oxtail, lechon, kinilaw/pickled seafood or meat, the side dishes like pickled vegetables, etc.
Carolina sorry to see how you dipped the meat on the fish sauce. But the way to eat kansi is to drizzle the fish sauce with a very few drops on the meat, and take it together with the rice. Kansi is a Filipino comfort food originating from the province of Negros Occidental in the Visayas.
The origin of lumpian shanghai was the Chinese but it was adopted by the Filipinos and made even more delicious because of the added inside of the spring roll depending on the type of ground meat and even more added with nutritious vegetables..
Fish sauce or “ patis “ should be used in small amounts only. Never dip your meat etc., bad idea at all! Few drops will do. Anyway, new subscriber here & loving your enthusiasm discovering the Filipino culture. Some can be shy some can be overly friendly but generally we are courteous, polite, respectful, friendly etc people. Hope you’ll enjoy the rest of your stay. Just be vigilant all the time wherever your travels take you. God bless.🙏🏼😍
For Filipino food, it is usually salty because most of the time than not ,it is paired with rice. I think you had to try the Filipino foods in Manam . There’s one in BGC. Also ask the waiter or locals on how to eat a particular menu because sometimes you need sauce dips or a particular way to eat it.
When you try a new Filipino dish I would recommend that you ask a local or the waiter on how best to enjoy the dish. Some of our dishes have a specific way of eating it and how to particularly add the sauce that comes along with it.
Halo means mix. So, halo-halo is the mix - mix...that tells a mix of different ingredients and have to stir mix everything with that spoon until those ice grains almost melt before to eat it.😊

@JayandKarolina well you have to put the spoon slowly and,,stir and mix,,,you can do that its easy,,,we pilipinos do that,,,by doing so you can figure it out, trust me your halo halo well be more yummy,

There is also a method to eating the dish or else you may miss out on the whole flavor experience of what it's supposed to be. Halo-halo is meant to be mixed well first before spooning out the ingredients.
Halo-Halo means "Mix-Mix" in English! To fully enjoy all the delicious flavors, give it a good stir first to mix all the ingredients together. That way, every bite is a perfect blend of sweet goodness!
Hello there... About Halo Halo, means mixed... You need to mix all the flavors by using your spoon. It will combine all the flavors and you will love and enjoy eating it.

Lumpiang Shanghai is regarded as the most basic type of lumpia in Filipino cuisine, and it is usually smaller and thinner than other lumpia variants.

I spent a month in the Philippines and it was my first time to eat at Mang Inasal and I enjoyed every food we ordered. My new favourite place to go to. Subscribing because I enjoyed watching your vlogs.❤❤❤
the sisig also, you need to mix the egg in before it fully cooks into a sunny side up. thats why its served in sizzling plate. can add calamansi, and chilli as well to cut the fat. 😊
You should do a ”take two” on eating halo-halo 😁 and this time mix everything first to get the full halo-halo experience. Glad that you’re enjoying the gastronomic experience.
the halo halo is supposed to be eat well mixed...for complete satisfaction just mix start in the bottom, while sisig should be mixed with egg and "calamansi" a dwarf lemon citrus.
It’s called Lumpiang Shanghai because it’s the progeny of a type of egg roll brought by Chinese traders from the mid to lower coasts (including Shanghai- Fujian, etcetera) of China.
@ no problem. Filipino cuisine is very expansive as we have our indigenous food (by using the abundance of fresh seafood and vegetables), and was influenced by many countries (e.g., China, India, Malay, Japan, MESOAMERICAS, south Americas, etcetera..) due to pre colonial trade and post colonial trade, especially the Galleon Trade. All that said, you two enjoy my motherland.
Aristocrat's famouse for it's barbecue chicken with peanut sauce, kansi bulalo is good with calamansi and soy sauce and chili sliced in to pieces if you are into spicy, sisig must have a squeeze of calamansi also, sisig has a lot of variations actually and finally, Buddy's is famous for pancit lucban, a noodle dish with fried pork belly called "lechon Kawali" with vinegar sauce being poured generously into it. Philippines is actually the world's melting pot of cuisine so as you've just scratched the surface, you may want to try checking out Guevarra's by Chef Laudico in San Juan city. It's an all-you-can-eat Filipino dishes with some fusion here and there..."mangan Tayo"! (Ilocano word for Let's eat!)
Hiiiiii .. Jay and Karolina .. Thanks for visiting Philippines. Most of the Filipinos speaks english so you can still feel at home even if you are in a foreign country. You can speak english and include "Po" at the end. So for example, when ordering food. -Can we have 1 order of Pork Adobo Po? Daily conversation with other Filos. -How are you po? -What is your name po? -How old are you po? And thank you for normalizing the usage of "Salamat po" Since we always use it. I Hope you are enjoying your stay here.
Halo is a tagalog word which means Mix. The desert of mixed fruits. Another Halo is how to eat it, basically you have to mixed it first. Thats why Halo-Halo.
Its a bit salty because its meant to be paired with plain rice.. thats how we eat our dishes combined it with plain steam rice and you get the right balance & taste😅
"I suggest that you visit Bacolod City to try their delicious food, such as:" Inasal: Manokan country or nena's rose Cakes and pastry: Calea / cafe Bob's / Felicias Meal: *21 Restaurant -must try the batchoy(noodle soup) *Sharyn's cansi house *Gina's Seafood *Bob's Restaurant You can also explore along Lacson and Burgos Avenue.
Reminder, if they will serve any dipping sauce it’s not a must to have it with your food. This is for people who liked saltiness in their food. I personally don’t like salty dishes. IKEA a cross Mall of Asia, they offer the best longanisa with rice ( Filipino sausage) for breakfast. Always sold out so you have to be there right when the store opens. Unlimited healthy beverages.
To all the vendors of Halo-Halo all over the world...... Please please pleeeaaassee!!! Instruct your customers to mix all the ingredients together before eating... 😭😭😭
They should have advised you to put the rice on your main plate and put the fried egg on top. Then eat pieces of the adobo with some rice and egg in one spoonful. This will mitigate a bit the strong taste of the adobo.
First of all, don't hesitate to ask questions about dishes that you are not familiar with, especially if they come with sauces. The fish sauce is a condiment for dipping since it is super salty. What you did was basically bathed you piece of meat in it. Halo Halo means mix mix, and mixing it will bring the flavors together.
I'm a bit dissapointed at the Halo-halo store crew. They already mentioned it's their first time to try halo-halo but the crew didn't even bother to explain how to eat it.
wow Aristocrat.. one of my fave resto in Manila..their chicken Inasal is yummy, my wife's fave..Garlic rice is always my fave..try going to BGC their are lots of good restaurants there. ☺
You should have mixed the whole concoction before resting... Halo is a Tagalog term meaning to mix... Halohalo is that dessert that has plenty of flavored ingredients that 😅should be mixed to enjoy its yummness
for breakfast...the 3 REAL staple breakfasts are Longsilog...tocsilog and tapsilog.....Abodo is better for lunch or dinner...Heres a lesson...about silog dishes....Si stands for SIningag which is garlic fried rice...and log is from itLOG which stands for egg ...and the prefix to all silog is the protein...For example Longsilog has LONGanisa as the protein and that is cured pork sausage...tapsilog has TAPa which is marinated beef and tocsilog which has TOCsino which is cured pork....then theres also cornsilog which has CORNbeef as the protein.
What is your favourite Filipino food?! 😋🇵🇭

You can speak english and include "Po" at the end.
So for example, when ordering food.
-Can we have 1 order of Pork Adobo Po?
Daily conversation with other Filos.
-How are you po?
-What is your name po?
-How old are you po?
And thank you for normalizing the usage of "Salamat po"

Congratulations.
Halo is a tagalog word which means Mix. The desert of mixed fruits. Another Halo is how to eat it, basically you have to mixed it first. Thats why Halo-Halo.
For bulalo should be a little dip to fish sauce not to much..thats why is too salty. The fish sauce is just to balance the taste.
Its a bit salty because its meant to be paired with plain rice.. thats how we eat our dishes combined it with plain steam rice and you get the right balance & taste😅
I miss this restaurant ( Aristocrat) I love their dishes you can never go wrong.

You're welcome! ☺️
Thankyou for visiting🇵🇭❤️
Great video guys, I'm curious as to what Karolina is saying in filipino every so often.
Wow! Buddy's!
That Filipino lime is called Calamansi. Other areas called it Lemoncito.
Happy watching ❤
the inside thing in bone marrow is good collagen. good for the health.
That's why Anthony Bourdain, many times, he visited the Philippines like my place where the Sisig originated.
To all the vendors of Halo-Halo all over the world...... Please please pleeeaaassee!!! Instruct your customers to mix all the ingredients together before eating... 😭😭😭
Yes please! That would be super helpful 😂😂😂
Love your video's ❤❤❤
Proper way to eat halo halo is to mix it well, the name came from a tagalog language HALO HALO that means MIX MIX in english
You need to try Carenderia it's so many different kinds of foods and it's also cheap. ❤
Nice to see your enjoying eating foods here in the Phillipines , Happy Eating po...🙂
With halo-halo you have to mix it before eating it. You try to mix it carefully
I'm a bit dissapointed at the Halo-halo store crew. They already mentioned it's their first time to try halo-halo but the crew didn't even bother to explain how to eat it.
"Bistek" beef or veal meat with a lot of white onion and calamansi are my favorote.😊
You have to mix mix mixed it the halo halo...
Hi Jay, congratulations on the video you made 😄
Hi Karolina, you're nice as always 😍
Sisig!! 😍😍
The best dish I missed eversince I went to the UK
You need to go to a local karenderia to fully immerse in the Filipino food culture
Halo halo is directly translated as "mix-mix", hence you have to mix it thoroughly to appreciate the medley of flavors all in one spoonful.
Sometimes it's good to ask how to eat a certain food you have never tried. Halo Halo is one of my favorite Filipino desserts.
minor correction, it's not DIRECTLY "mix-mix". only if you take it literally. it can also be translated as "assorted"
@@lawrencealcantara I've been leaning more towards this meaning of the word. Not sure when the name took a turn as a verb(mix-mix).
Come here at the Tagaytay and taste the Bulalo and tawilis 😊
wow Aristocrat.. one of my fave resto in Manila..their chicken Inasal is yummy, my wife's fave..Garlic rice is always my fave..try going to BGC their are lots of good restaurants there. ☺
You should have mixed the whole concoction before resting... Halo is a Tagalog term meaning to mix... Halohalo is that dessert that has plenty of flavored ingredients that 😅should be mixed to enjoy its yummness
You have to mix that halo halo before digging into it! Once mixed then you can taste all the flavors
for breakfast...the 3 REAL staple breakfasts are Longsilog...tocsilog and tapsilog.....Abodo is better for lunch or dinner...Heres a lesson...about silog dishes....Si stands for SIningag which is garlic fried rice...and log is from itLOG which stands for egg ...and the prefix to all silog is the protein...For example Longsilog has LONGanisa as the protein and that is cured pork sausage...tapsilog has TAPa which is marinated beef and tocsilog which has TOCsino which is cured pork....then theres also cornsilog which has CORNbeef as the protein.
The Filipino lime is called calamansi or kalamunding in Filipino (or Tagalog) and "calamondin" in English.
