As far as DCT goes sales of Africa Twins in 2022 were split 50/50 between manual & DCT. Most people who try DCT find themselves loving it. I had huge problems trying to get my head around it at first but I reckon the best thing to do is just take it for a spin. After a couple of hours you'll likely love it. I did the Honda Adventure Experience back in March 2023, having bought a DCT AT in November but having way too much nerves to just get on & ride it. I wanted a day or two on a DCT AT with some supervision & instruction, and I got that along with a day off road on very dodgy ground, sliding around in mud, on shale, all sorts. Honestly within 15 minutes I was happy as I could be. Give it a go, folks. Take a test ride.

      @Skiamakhos 8 місяців тому +2

Just to add, you don't need a 21" front wheel off road for gravel - you need them for obstacles, for rock-hopping and getting over logs. It probably makes very little difference on gravel - look at supermoto bikes.

All changes look great!!! BUT,BUT, they did miss an important one which is the back light on the handle controls buttons when night riding.

Doing 98% on road and only wanting a polyvalent bike with the option of the occasionnal off road and being able to travel without much limitations, the AT makes much more sense to me now that it has a 19" front. However, I would have like to have both models be available with a 19 or a 21, as the Adventure Sports also comes with a lot of options that make the price go up a lot...

Most comments I guess are not from AT owners as one major thing missing with the update is the backlite switch gear…those of us who use the AT at night (even after many KMs) still struggle sometimes to find the right button…

I’m using my ATAS off-road a lot less than I used to. And my wife is more and more interested in touring with me so I’m starting to lean towards a DCT version. Tested one last year. Absolutely fantastic. Very intuitive and a lot of fun. Different of course but good different. Love this clip. Very informative and, as always, well balanced information.

DCT is probably annoying people with very good clutch skills when off road riding....I found the same annoyance with quick-shifters on road. You have to "re-learn" something you've been doing for decades to accommodate the new tech. It's annoying as heck. I found when rev matching on the road and using friction zone at low speeds(think squirting out of low speed corners) that quick shifters sometimes interfere with that process....
In fact, at a Suzuki demo day I found myself gravitating back towards non-quick-shifting optioned bikes.

@@richardkeeley6927 Yep, I can "quick shift"/rev match on the fly without using the clutch during hard acceleration just fine on the road. Coordinating the quick/brief throttle roll-off with the gear shift up just isn't that hard- then back on the gas.

People knock the DCT without ever trying it, despite being a sceptic I bought a DCT Crosstourer (because it was cheap, and I wanted to try a Crosstourer, but couldn't get a test ride anywhere) fitted the optional foot gear change and I love it, 5000 miles in 6 months, its like a quickshifter but better, and great in slow moving traffic.

I wanted to go on byroads, but I have 0 skill level and it's a very heavy expensive bit of kit! So, she is a road tourer! I'm very happy with this bike, not disappointed! Although, I'm going to see if the new tubeless wheels fit my model and if I can buy them from Honda!

100hp is plenty for a bike that is aimed at offroad riding, but the top-spec road-focused touring version is underpowered, especially with luggage.
The red/white/blue is still the best looking bike in its class, and one of the best looking motorcycles you can buy for any money.

Oops. No - Tubeless are not a pain in the ar5e - the other variety is though. Great vid mate as an ATAS 2020 DCT variety owner - 62 years of age, I was bikeless from 1979 to 2019 (FORTY years) and rode only a couple of times in the 40 years on borrowed bikes. HOWEVER - for me as a Honda boy/man since I could talk, and riding again since 2019, I HATE the DCT when slow manoeuvring.... U turns etc. I WAS going to swap in 2024 for manual, with quick shift. However - for distance riding - DCT is awesome...... but I need control with a clutch when U turning.....

Former AT owner and current GSA owner here. I agree that the AT is the best looking heavy weight adventure bike, but of course looks are subjective. IMHO these are the two best bikes in the segment but they hit in different ways. For the style of riding I do on a big bike the GSA is a better fit for me, at least at the moment. If I need to get more technical and aggressive off-road and require the use of a 21/18 wheel setup then I will be jumping on my KTM 500. For slabbing big miles on the highway with dirt and gravel roads throw in along the way the 19" front wheel is a better fit. While the AT is a great on road bike, it doesn't hold a candle to the GS/GSA in that department but that could change now with the 19" wheel on the AS model. I am not opposed to considering another AT in a few years when I am ready to trade out for a freshie especially since I am not really getting along with the looks of the new 1300 all that well.

Did they make the air filters accessible without having to remove about 84 fasteners of various sizes with different tools and breaking a half dozen plastic fairing tabs? (That’s hyperbole fellas) ADV bikes are meant to be ridden in dirty & dusty off-road conditions, so easy air filter servicing is pretty important. That’s been a big fail in the Africa Twin’s design since day 1.

A comment addition to my previous post on the model comparison . To me the perfect bike has yet to be invented and like a Crescent wrench , adjustable to the job but far from perfect . I have owned a large Adventure touring bike with a 19” front , hardened for the back country roads . A KTM SA-T but while it would get you to the gravel at warp speed , once there it was a front heavy ,big tank , long range fussy beast . It has been replaced with the AT AS manual which is so much better for the expressed purpose (see previous) with the 21 and 50:50 rubber . My long distance road runner is now a KTM SA-S outfitted for tarmac touring only . At the moment a complementary combination . Chose the destination , route , explore options and then the best tool (bike) to complete . My back yard is a very big interesting place to ride and discover . The AT is a great tool. I am the limiting factor in all situations . For me , I chose wisely . Now to fix that *##** throttle snatch ( any ideas out there ?) Cheers RS

a curb weight of 227 kg according to manufacturer´s factsheet (probably 230 kg in real life) is high for a motorcycle that is designed for off-road adventure (at least what they want us make believe from the ads). Great follow up video. I don't understand the complaining about the DCT and 19" front wheel. The changes make perfect sense to me and if you want a 21" front wheel and manual transmission, just buy the Standard model and spec it however you want. It seems that all you are trading off in the Standard now is a bit of fuel (but less weight which is a plus for off road) and some rider creature comforts. Otherwise, the up specced Standard is basically the current AS. I see people complaining about the demise of the 21" front and lower suspension because they need it for off road, while concurrently bemoaning the loss of rider comfort and fuel (= weight). These two things are at odds with each other. All Honda seems to have done is draw a sharper distinction between the touring oriented bike and the off road focused one. I have a 2023 AS with ES and DCT, but if I was buying again, definitely looking at the Standard with options available. What am I missing?

Pricing is really interesting how it differs from country to country. In NZ, new GS's are close to 40K, the new 1300 probably more. Base model AT's are leaner, just picked up a brand new 2022 for $23K (got discounted for stock clearance - only difference between '22 & '23 is slightly more blue). Here this is only a few more grand than a new T7. The '24 upgrades are of course better, but for what probably will be close to $30K? Just refinement culture at this point. Fundamentally the same bike. Would love to have it but for many normal people the price will be the difference between having one and not. And am already kicking myself for spending this much...
Would love to have seen them fix the 20 second dash and safety warning nanny on the '24 but I somehow doubt it... perfect bike if so.

I see the AS 2024 is available in either black or white/tricolour for 2024.
I want to go for the black with manual gearbox model with quickshifter but I see it comes with black wheels only, the tricolour model comes with gold wheels, I wonder why they don't offer the gold wheels on the black bike? pity.

The problem with ES on the ATAS, is it’s not suitable for two up riding with luggage when the bike is being run at heavy loads. It’s just not man enough for the job.
To set it up properly you’ve got no choice but to upgrade the suspension. Plenty of posts about this fact on the forums.
I have a ‘22 Manual ATAS and have upgraded it to Ohlins with a added beefier rear spring and it’s now perfect. It can quickly be adjusted for single riding or two up with luggage and doesn’t lose any of it’s composure. This is something not easily achieved with an ES bike as many owners have discovered to their cost!

I wonder that can you try between 50-70 kmh withour hands and handle bar shaking or not again as old version? If you can test that it will be my pleasure..Because It is cronicle problem. I had 2020 ATAS and my friend has 2021 ATAS,also I have new 2023 ATAS and problem is same.. Between 50-70 kmh handle bar shaking even I tested after my new 2023 ATAS after getting from Honda Shop again same problem with 0 km new for ATAS.. It is cronicle problem for whole CRF1100L AT.. It is not related tyre or balance or top case etc..Unfortunately Honda is not doing anythingelse about the problem..

Buy the base model with standard suspension. Upgrade to top shelf suspension components and its as good as a Desert-X with less issues.

The biggest reason I have never bought an AT is the tubed tires (the AS felt too big), I think the new tubeless is a big upgrade. IMO CC is a really nice thing in the US with the highways but here in Asia with the road conditions I can't use CC or heated grips. I'd like a stripped down base model. Tubeless, MT, and priced cheaper without CC and heated grips.

For the first time since i bought my Tiger 900 GT in 2020, i am tempted to buy a new bike : an Africa Twin Adventure Sports 2024 manual (if available in Canada). It could be my dream bike…
But sadly, actually i don’t have the budget to change my bike & i still love my Tiger.

Not so happy with the lowered suspension and 19” front wheel as I tour and go off road.
Would have been better to have it as an option.
Would have thought they’d have upped the power as now lagging right behind. Will probably stick with my 2022 ATAS, luckily I fully spec’d it !

Personally I like the idea of DCT on an ADV because shifting with MX boots has never been as smooth for me as I do with street boots. (e.g. Dainese Torque 3) And I don't want to have to compromise to street boots or ADV boots.

I LOVE my DCT. People need to get over themselves, so many people think they are professional rally riders. I have taken my Africa Twin through Moab and the Mid Atlantic BDR and can say I am glad I had the DCT and did not have to devote brain cells to shifting and could concentrate on all the other things trying to kill me instead. Its a fantastic bike and I was only able to tackle such a challenging ride because of the DCT not in spite of it. Try a DCT first before you turn your noses up to it. I love the new color schemes too.

The BMW GS 1300 looks better now (I wouldn't say that before the GS redesign) but I'd still get the Africa Twin I think. A vertically challenged friend has always wanted one though and will be very happy they've lowered the seat to 795 mm with low seat. I sent this to him and the tubeless tires and DCT/ESS options will be nice to have too vs having to get the adventure sports.

DCT is spectacular. I have a 2021 Goldwing DCT tour and a 2023 Rebel 1100dct Tour. Incredible fun. Both of these bikes absolutely haul ass. Button shifting is no issue. And DCT is great for city riding, and HILLS. So if you want a clutch. You do you. I'll stick with the DCT.

Seems like they are building these for a more road focused crowd, which suits more of their target market. Personally, I am happy with my 22 AT AS ES with its 21 inch front wheel... is it a perfect bike? No. But I love it despite all its quirks and mandatory disassembly every time it needs a small service. I am a tall guy 6'5" so it fits me very well. It is completely paid off, so I am perpetually on the market for another bike, but I think I am going to go for the KTM 1290...

There are 2 versions, honda haven’t ruined it, buy the one that suits you best, tbh the standard AT which is lighter and now has the adjustable screen, electronic suspension, cruise control and tubeless wheels will be the pick of the models now. 19” front wheel, I don’t hear anyone moaning about the GS front wheel offroad, why don’t people just wait and see what it’s like before whinging about it, it may well be just as good, it will almost certainly be a big bonus for most riders who spend most their time on a tarmac road.

The only problem is that you cannot get DCT basic model without electronic suspension. Thus it's super annoying because it suddenly becomes crazy expensive.
I do love DCT, just did my first trip ever on DCT through Europe for 30 days. I doubt I'll ever want anything but DCT. I'm actually in need of a bike, but Transalp doesn't have DCT option, and AT is just too big, too heavy and too expensive (because you can't get basic version with JUST DCT).

I have a buggered left hand which makes it stiff and painful to transistion from gripping bar to the clutch but I still hate the added weight of DCT so the answer? DUHH Honda needs to offer their new E Clutch to the standard manual tranmission for the perfect compromise between DCT and manual....actually BETTER because the E-clutch lets you select back to regular manual clutch whenever you miss having your own clutch lever....btw I wonder what happenes when one pulls the clutch with E clutch? Probably just overlaps is my guess and wont hurt nor help anything
