The Worst Main Street In Australia..? Glen Innes !

  • Basson's Blunder, currently buggaring up "Ward's Mistake", as the hand-mixed Concrete Slab Carraigeways in Grey Street were derisively labelled by Alderman Ward's detractors in the 1920s, is currently the talk of the town...
Quoting from the front page of the Glen Innes Examine of Thursday September 4th 2014, under the Headline "Facelift fatigue"...; "...Many businesses, struggling before the roadworks began, now feel they have been brought to their knees under the added pressure of long-running work and disruption outside their shop fronts.
"Schaefer's Newsagency proprietor said it's very frustrating. A sign appeared outside the newsagency this week indicating that Council was destroying businesses in town because of the road works....
"It's affecting businesses badly. It's an old generation town and let's face it, people aren't willing to walk anywhere...
"Mr Schaefer said that in the early stages he had tried to be supportive of the ptoject, taking the view that the end result would be worth it. But as time drags on and businesses struggle to stay afloat, he is desparate to get customers through the door...
"...this work is so disruptive and taking so long to complete. It's almost as if Council has given up on local businesses, there's no mention of compensation, no communication and no effort to help us."
"Brian Paine, proprietor of Mac's Corner Store on tje West side of town... was appalled at the lack of consideration that Council seems to have for local business.
"I don't think they seriously considered the knock-on effect this work is having to other businesses anf the whole town,... I have heard from so many people that they now shop in Inverell (80 Km to the West), because of this disruption in Glen Innes... It is driving the community into the ground."
"Anne Pettit, proprietor of Cuisine Cafe, is concerned they may not be able to stay afloat much longer.
" 'We're running at a loss every day.', Mrs Pettit said.
"Mrs Pettit said she had been to all the Council meetings and was assured thst disruptions would be minor.
"This is not minor, this is major and it's erratic. Sunday we will be forced to close on our busiest trading day because they need to work on the power supply...".
And, it goes on, in the same vein ; for quite a way...
A Council Spokesperson is quoted as saying , "the redevelopment...work in Grey St Glen Innes is on track for completion by the end of OCTOBER..."
Rumour has it that donations are being collected to pay for Heinrich Basson to be deported back to Sooth EffriKa, wherin he was spawned, whelped, or perhaps hatched by spontaneous combustion ; & where the name of Basson was made justly infamous, in the annals of Totalitarianism, Beaurocratic Authoritarianism, & Dictatorial methodology (see ; Wouter Basson, the head of the country's former Apartheid Regieme's Germ Warfare Program...).
I can't reply to anything, but I do enjoy reading the comments which manage to appear.

      G'day,
      Thanks.
It was pretty topical at the time, three different Business Proprietors asked me, independantly, to make and post a Video regarding the topic.
This is how it came out.
One of my Subscribers linked it to the Glen Innes Buy/Swap/Sell Page on FB, and views did a bit of a J-Curve.
And, now, most people don't recall, at all, the old Concrete Road which was chopped up and burried.
      Such is life.

Just to clarify. Our small Australian company was involved in this work. The problem was that the highway through the Main street was two strips of 300mm deep concrete either side with gravel in the centre sealed with bitumen for car parking. The old drains were in the gravel and leaking with no where for the water to go. So constant repairs. The Glen Innes Council bravely decided to try an Australian creation. They removed the material in the centre of the road fixed the plumbing and replaced the gravel with our product mixed in to water proof the material. They did a 500m section at first as a trial then after success the completed the road. I think it was great job and I thank the people concerned and Nosa Beserkergand positive comment on how great it still looks. Tony Cooee Products

      G'day,
      Thanks.
All that, and a bag of Potato Chips.
The issues under discussion, complaint and causing agumentation at the time were that the Repairs you speak of were not occurring to the Concreted sections of Grey Street, but to the Bitumen over Dirt to the South of the Wentworth St Intersection...., Businesses in the Main Street had not at the time recovered from the Re-Paving of the Footpaths which Council had foisted upon them...; the actual problems in the Main Street which really NEEDED to be rectified were the ASBESTOS-Cement Reticulated Drinking-Water Pipes which were under the Street & feeding the Businesses thereinat..., and the need to run the Electricity-Supply up the Center of the Road rather than Strung-Up and looped along the Base of the Awnings on the Facades of the Shopfronts (done in the 1880s)...., and the issue of going into Runaway Global Warming while coating the WHITE Concrete in the Main Street with BLACK Bitumen - effectively installing a Solar-Thermal Convection-Heater.....
Because of the Asbestos Water-Pipes, & the Electrical Supply..., it had to be done...; I accept that.
The Businesses probably should have been given a 100% Rates Amnesty or Rebate , while the front of their Premises was being dug up for the Footpath..., and a 50% Rates Amnesty/Rebate while the whole Street-Block they were on was being dug up..., to soothe their Ruffled Feathers.
The topcoat on the Concrete should have been WHITE Bitumen..., but some Arsehole wanted to scrimp on the Job.
The issue of Drainage through Cracks in the Bitumen-Seal on the Centre Carpark was never mentioned publicly at the time.
I'm not saying that your point was wrong, but if it was correct then it was a really minor issue ; compared to the Gridpower & the Waterpipes.
When one Shopfront ("Raylene's Gifts") was burnt out, it uprooted the Electricity supply to all the "downstream" Businesses on that side of the Street...; and that kind of turbocharged the perception that the Job had to be done.
This Video was made at the request of 3 different Grey Street Shop-Owners ; so I made it & posted it - because I'm not into CHANGE in my Hometown, particularly Change instigated & enforced by Out-Of-Towners ("Floaties" we call them - they float in, make a big noise, fuck up greatly, and then they float out again...).
There y' go, and now y' know...
You did contribute, so I get the Right to Reply.

At the time when this was made, the Shopkeepers were tearing their hair out, about the disruption to their Trade ; and I was requested to,
      "Do Something".
This is what I came up with, and at the time it very well expressed the majority of the opinion of the town.
It was shown in ALL the Schools in town, to everybody from Kindergarten to Year 12...; I got a LOT of feedback from people who watched it, and almost all of it was pleased with the Video.

The problem with GI is that its population's decline, due in no small part to the corporatisations and privatisations.

The UK approach is often to replace black top road ways with coloured brick , or even coloured tarmac , both excessively expensive , and beautiful , until some utility company turns up and due to cost then repairs it with black top ! ! ! Usually five , seven , ten years on , the game gets played again !

      G'day.
When I started walking around in G.I., there were 3 Billion people on Earth..., 6,000 of them in Glen Innes & 3,998 in the surrounding Shire - and the signs on the outskirts of Town read,
      "Population..., 9,998."
In 1977 they changed the sign to
      "Population...; 10,000."
And during those 15 years the
Human population of Earth went up to 3.4 Billion....
In 1996 the Shire & the Town Councils were amalgamated, and the new Sign read,
      "Population 9,800...
In 2019 the Population of Glen Severn got to 9,400 ; and now it's 9,600 - so I heard from the Ex-Mayor 2 weeks ago.
      On Earth there are now
      8 Billion
      Idiots...,
      Competing to feed the
      Environment & Ecology to their
      EcoGnomie.
And there are 2.5 of them, now - for every one there was when I was born.
Go West of Glen Innes & the Country is already uninhabitable without Air-Conditioning for
      Some days
      Every
      Summer...
Global Warming is making that a lot more of a problem - but the people who live there don't accept Science.
      And going
North, East, or South of Glen Innes one strikes
      Ever higher
      Population Density...
      More
      Selfish Idiots per Square Kilometre.
      Mathematically
      Topographically
      Statistically
      Inexorably
      Unarguably...,
      It seems - to me.
But my father's grandfather brought my
      DNA to Glen Innes in 1882...;
So I belong here, fit in here, know how to be - here,
      Better than I do
      Anywhere else on the
      Eastern Seaboard of
      Oz.
      Wherever else one goes
      The
      Shit grows
      Worse and the
      Dickheads are
      Packed in more
      Closely.
      In my experience, and observations.

I think this video is brilliant, it shows the destruction of Grey Street and what the business people are having to cope with. As for the 10 people to date that have marked it, " I Dislike This ". I do not know all the councilors or workers, however we can assume the Mayor, GM, G Price and Appleby were some of them.

And the Micro SD Card from the Nokia Aaha 302 is able to feed it's Pushbutton Controlled Camera's Videos through to YT via the Sony Experia...
It isn't perfect, but it means I will be able to do a second coverage of Basson's Blunder when it is finished, finally.
I plan on featuring an Electric Thermoprobe to compare the Black Bitumen with the remaining Slabs down near BiLo, to discover how much extra heat the bitumen traps & adds to the shopping experience.
Maybe it's a subtle plot to chase people out of the little shops & into the big Air-Conditioned Supermarkets... ;-p

G'day mate, how's life in the nomadic part of Ireland..?
Um, I have been getting eMail notifications from Google telling me that you've sent me a message, & the message itself appears (so far so good), but whenever I select "Reply" I'm given a keyboard to send a reply to "Noreply@google...." ; & if I go to Messages as you suggested then I get a keyboard to compose an eMail, but I have no idea of ANYBODY's eMail addresses.
So, nope. That avenue cannot be considered to be at all even remotely functional, especially when compared with the old YT PM system.
I'm guessing that the most recent Carrier Pigeon you dispatched that way was an attempt to show me some video (?), well I tried to click onto the http.... thingy at the bottom of it but nothing happened, it went nowhere, just like when I'd tried to click onto the Alphanumeric string at the foot of the earlier message you had sent.
Maybe the Experia just can't do the gMail reply thing, or maybe it's just ANOTHER aspect of Computers which I doesn't underconstumble...
Personally, I'm so ecstatic to have recovered the ability to upload, comment, & reply to comments that I'm not very motivated to confuse myself any further by doing anything with Messages beyond reading them, & if appropriate to reply via the Comment Threads like this one.
I'm teetering on the brink of Input Overload as it is, particularly as the Clowns at YT don't seem to be able to get through a single day without sending me a swag of Updates, mostly for shit I don't want & won't ever use..., but which I don't dare refuse in case the unupdated Phone grinds to a halt, like the last bunch of button phones did.
Life's like that, you can't have everything.
As for Ebola, well I reckon there seems to be a News Blackout on what the current number of cases & deaths actually is. And the Authorities NEVER censor Good News about Infectious Outbreaks, so their silence is in itself highly informative. At least the US Military is going to make their people undergo 21 days of quarantine IN EBOLALAND before they're to be uallowed to get on a 'plane or boat to go anywhere else in the world...; prezactly as I suggested in my "Bat Eater's Disease..." video about 6 months ago.
Any measures intended to be "less inconvenient" are doomed to fail because until a person has enough virus circulating that they are showing symptoms then there isn't enough virus present to show up on ANY Blood or Sputum or Urine or Stool Tests...
I'm still spending some grocery-money every week buying Gastrolyte, Immodium, Gloves, with some Masks next on the list ; so that when Ebola gets here & the Supermarkets get rushed I won't need to go there.
I had a letter to the editor published a fortnight ago in the GI Examiner, with copies to State & Federal MPs, suggesting Medical Conscription for Ebola Survivors.
They don't need the cumbersome Sprayproof suits because survival conveys immunity for about ten years, so a month of Nurses Aide training & then 5 months on the wards nursing the new Ebola cases.
That might keep the deathrate down to 54%, rather than the 70% achieved by people who can't get treated in hospital.
Have you heard how they with went tracing the 150+ people who were on the Buses in Mali with the Baby whose mother had died of Ebola so the Grandmother took the kid home overland with a NOSEBLEED in progress all the way..?
That was a fortnight ago, so the first cases in Mali are probably becoming symptomatic about now... :-(
      Well, you did ask...
I've told my kids that if the Hospital is full then I'll have a go at nursing them, but if I get it first they're to stay away & I'll work through it without putting them at risk.
Darwinism says the next generation is the one which matters, not us old farts...
      What's your plan ?
      Ciao !

To reply to PM's you have to go to the other persons/recipients channel and select the option 'About', on that page you will find the send a message option somewhere down the page. Not as good and more fiddly than it used to be thanks to youtube.
Plan regards Ebola? Thankfully No Ebola sufferers have decided to visit us and we hope it stays that way.
I'm surprised that the shortened URL's that youtube supply don't work for mobiles (or could it be that there's no click on link option), maybe the long URL's will, I'll post them next time.
PS have you tried copying and pasting the links into your web browser?
Life for the Nomad in Ireland?...It's Autumn hereabouts again, the seasons don't half come around quickly.
Updates on youtube? Well they gave a salary to someone to make updates and they have messed everyone about since.

I understand the immediate pain and sympathise with the business owners.
That said the main street will look fantastic and generate tourism appeal on completion. The upgrade is needed before the flight school is finished and a people influx starts in Glen Innes.
The town has been left behind in the last two decades compared to surrounding towns.
Also everyone complains about what opportunities have passed by the town almost daily when I lived there. Now change is here and lets just complain about that now. Typical of the change resistant occupants of the town.
I believe Glen Innes is on the cusp of gentrification and a popularity spike.
I am sorry to be blunt but the current negative change resistant voice of the majority 60+ will not be around when GI is a changed and sort after place to live.
This is the view of a multiple home owner living out of town that is thankful not to be living with the disruption but applauds the future vision of Council and town planners.
Looking forward to the return on investment.
    Thank you.

G'day Keith B, thanks for that...
As it turns out, 2 months down the track, what you suggested turns out not to be the case unless you stick with the dictionary definition of "fantastic", ie; fantasy-based.
It looks like an Architectural/Civil Engineering DISASTER, particularly from a Thermodynamic viewpoint.
The WHITE Concrete Slabs, which used to REFLECT the Sun's heat have been Bitumen-Sealed into Blackness...; the better to absorb heat, from the Insolation which is already 21% greater per square metre than at Sea Level at this Lattitude, due to the 1,100 metres of Altitude above datum.
So, now, with Global Warming going gangbusters, the GISC has installed a massive Solar-Thermal Space Heater with Black Stone over 15cm of Concrete Thermal Mass, in the Main Street...; the better to hunt people out of the little shops in Grey Street & into the big Air Conditioned Supermarkets, and buggar the acarbon Footprint of the Coal-Fired Electric Air-Con. Units roaring away in the buildings surrounding the new Grey Street Solar Thermal Space Heater.
And the prick of a thing won't work in Midwinter due to the low Solar Altitude, but it's optimised to make Grey Street uninhavitable in Summer.
Change is only Progress if it makes stuff, things, life..., BETTER...; Basson's Blunder, blindly buggared Ward's Mistake, it is no kind of "Upgrade", it's a DEGRADE.
      As I see it.
But then, my Rates are being spent paying for it, so I have an interest in identifying Waste & Undustrious Futility.
      Ciao !

      G'day,
Well, y'see, Paul Keating made the Redfern Speech and Oz was apparently about to embrace Reconciliation, after the Sheep & Potato Wars.
      Then Howard came to power.
Then Nelson Mandella got out of Gaol and became Sooth EffriKan Prissydunce - and prior to that, to get out of Apartheid SA one had to leave all their money behind, and only people who preferred being broke to living in a Race-Based Slave EcoGnomie..., ever left the place.
      And Mandella said,
"All you people who do not want to live in a Free and Democratic Sooth EffriKa..., take your money and GO !
"If you don't want to be here then we don't want you - or your money....!"
And, so, a vast herd of line-bred congenital Whaite Supremacists started scouring the Earth for somewhere to go, where they could treat Blackfullas like Shit.
Europe,Britain, Scandinavia, AfriKa, Asia, India, North and South AmeriKa, even New Zealand - none of those places subjugate and discriminate against Blackfullas like Oz does....
Because, after WW-1, General Jan Smuts went to Queensland to study the Qld Native PoLice methods and tactics, and operational details - before returning to Sooth EffriKa to draw up the Appartheid Constitution.
And Johnny Howard wanted to bolster the Anti-Union Vote, so he decided to import the Votes...; and thus Oz' response to Mandella's ascendancy to the Prissyduncie was to announce the creation of a,
      "Busyness Immmgration Visa"
Which entitled Anyone from Anywhere to apply for and be granted a Visa, with an accelerated track to Naturalised CitiZenShit..., providing the Individual can prove their personal ownershit of a Bank Balance exceeding $1,000,000....
He did that, about the same time he was lying about "Babies Overboard !" Stories to get re-elected, and orchestrating the MV Tampa debacle.
So, the Whenwees began to flock to Oz. Cashed-up White Supremacists, Racist War Criminals, raised to equate Blackfullas with Communist Terrorists and Unionists....
And the Unlettered roosted mainly in Western Oz, living there in Gated Guarded Communities, where they moan and whine about Oz Gun Laws - because they all want to carry Pistols and Revolvers.
The Academics went into the University, Corporate, and Right-Wing Consultant sectors....; and vast numbers of Whaite Sooth EffriKans finished up as Prison Guards, in Oz...
And ALL the Whenwees duly voted Lib.Nat.zi - for Howard.
("When we were back on the Cape....", "When we had a Farm in Rhodesia...", "When we had a proper number of Servants..." Etcetera etcetera, ad infinitum, ad nauseum...)
And Howard was in power for about 12 years, on the Appartheid Migrant Vote.
When this was made, Glen Innes' General Manager was Heinrich Basson, his wife was Stephanie Botha, her father was Pik Botha - the last Appartheid Prissydunce who released Mandella - and Botha's Minister of Secret Police (wanted by Interpol for multiple murder, throwing detainees out of Helicopters over the ocean and having dissident Expatriots killed in France and Switzerland...) his name was Wouter Basson...(!).
So, House of Basson over House of Botha..., both lying low - here in Glen Innes...
Nobody could make that shit up....!
It sure looked like Howard imported a new Ruling Class, to me.
      Such is life,
      Have a good one...
      Stay safe.

      G'day Manny,
      Thanks mate !
Well, Global Warming is winning, the town's breathing Bushfire Smoke most days..., the Town's Mayor Carol Sparks is a founding member of Wytaliba - the local Hippie Commune, a member of the Australian Greens Party, and she was the midwife at my son's Homebirth.
3 weeks ago a Firestorm hit Wytaliba. Of 102 Houses 60 burned down, of 120 Residents 70 were variously burned, 2 needing Skin Grafts, another 2 died.
My son was the first RFS Brigade Captain to drive his Crew in their Cat-7 Tanker over the burning Bridge to get onto Wytaliba during the Firestorm, before the Bridge fell down. My own Brigade's Truck also got over the bridge (I was in town, shopping), and Red Range ran out of Water trying to put the Bridge out
My son managed to get around the edge of the Front to a House not yet impacted & with his Crew he saved that - bringing his Truck & Crew back out the next day (after a Causeway was bulldozed accross the dry Riverbed) without so much as a Bandaid between them.
As for the GI main Street.., if you title-search YT for,
      "Time Capsule, Glen Innes, NSW ; 1939 - 2019."
It went up 6 months ago.
Lots of empty Shops, and Day Zero for Town Water is in May, half a year away.
Last year I spent $2,800 on my Firehose Collection, this year I spent $6,300 adding Shinyness to my Fireplan.
Check it out (in my recent uploads), my Fireplan glows in the Dark, incandesant, with 4 x 50 Watt Floodlights.

      G'day,
      Thanks for that,
Um, I dunno...; maybe there's already Man-Ageing Generalissimo running Port Maquarie along "suitably organised" lines, so he feels his "Vocation" to be up here atop the Mountains..?
Interesting that firstly he's scrapped the Heritage-Nostalgia Tourism Drawcard, by homogenising the Main Street...; and now he's eliminated all Council support for most Tourist-Oriented "Festivals", only the local Show, Minerama, and the Keltic Klowns in Kilts will henceforth be supported by Council...
And so now the "Beardies Festival", which used to be the "Rose Festival" (competing with Grafton and it's Jacarandas, apparently...), which used to be THE Only annual Festival involving Parades up the Main Street other than ANZAC Day...; has Bin-Dumped, but Floaties and Blow-Ins like Heinrich can't be expected to know or care too much for Local History, apparently it's "Potential for Growth" which matters to them.
Cancerous Tumours operate along similar lines.

I'd bet that during the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge ( designed and built by British firm Dorman Long and Co Ltd of Middlesbrough ) and the Sydney Opera House ( designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon ) you would of thought it was all just a gigantic geometrically impossible waste of time & money at the hands of deluded foreigners and egomaniacal politicians.
    Love your style though Warbles.
Council should be lobbied to provide, at least, immediate rate relief to the businesses affected.

Frankly Just another example of how local Council and those with powers love to put their own stamp on things which is all to often support big business, mutli-nationals and making jobs just to keep people who probably wouldn't get a job anywhere else and thus would be on unemployment benefits busy so that they have a job and thus are not on such things- at the expense of keeping a town different from those around it, so that there is a benefit to stopping in Glenn rather than stopping in Guyra or Tenterfeild or other towns.

      G'day,
      Thanks,
Um, well, as it happens, there were quite good reasons why the Street did need to be dug up...
      1) The Drainage Pipes were 6-inches diameter, now they're 3-ft Dia., so it'll take 6 times the sized Storm to flood the place - and it has been a recurrent problem...
      2) The Water Delivery-Pipes were Asbestos Ferro-Concrete, and it isn't allowable to supply Mesothelioma-flavoured Drinking-Water, not any more...
      3) The Electricity was retrofitted to the Main St in the 1880s, with Wiring running along the Facades of the Shops and under the Awnings, so if one shop burnt down the whole side of the Street lost Power...; now the feed goes up the Centre of the Centre-Parking Aisle, with Underground Cabling running perpendicularly under the Road to the individual Shops...
However the whole "Beautyfuckuption" side of Construction, with the thin narrow rectangular "Town Square" and Clunky Flowerpots replacing almost 2 dozen Carparks and randomly-spaced Lighting too high in the Sky to be bright at Ground-Level...; all THAT was unneccessary..., and really quite counterproductive, and because the Public Relations mindset is rooted in the "importance of appearing NEW", then pretty much EVERYTHING which Council said to try to promote their attitude to the Main Street "Upgrade" was actually almost calculated to inflame and strengthen and entrench and fortify Community resistance and resentment and opposition to the whole idea...
And the fact that most of the work was done by Out-Of-Town Contractors, so no new local Employment was created, while the Shopkeepers were starving...; that sure didn't help the issue.
The joke of it is that this Clip was taught in the Local High-School, as an example of how to shoot a short Doccumentary Video..; and at least one couple claimed to have moved into town to live, after Googling "Glen Innes", and shaving seen "how lovely the Buildings are, in the Main Street"...
I have posted a follow-up yo this Video, titled something like "Glen Innes Main Street 'Upgrade', Examined..."; you should be able to find it among my Videos, if you search using that title...

I have no issue with the power and water up grades- but it would be good if council could be bothered to communicate this with rate payers - especially those from the properties out of town in a Short document - not some long winded 1000 + page report / long council minutes from a meeting.
I know in my local town the main street gutter has plenty of sand stone as the side of the gutter- dating back to the early 1900's or before. RMS [Roads and Marritime services] came through a couple years ago and removed some of it and replaced it with concrete- they didn't bother telling people why??
Looking at Tamworth, Council love to put large plants on round abouts as beautifu*king cation projects- blocking vision especially in small and low cars, said plants require watering even though the town is on tight water restrictions.
I am really starting to question the decisions and processes many local councils make.

      Ah, well,
The Councils are in the grip of the local Chamber of Commerce, which is (always) dominated by Real Estate Salespeople & Developers...; and the "Cargo Cult" which rules the Chamber and therefore the Council, is called "Tourism".
But, if everybody in every Town with a Job has 1 Month Holidays per Year, and they piss off on a Clap-Catching Expedition to Bali or Aspen or Paris, or to a Gold Coast Casino to spend their year's Savings...; then Glen Innes has to sell 360 Hotel or Motel Beds PER DAY, to manage to BREAK-EVEN at "Tourism", and Tamworth would be about 3 or 4 times that figure...
Tourism will "Save" Regional Australia, just as erecting Shrines beside deserted WW-2 Allied Airfields in New Guinea, to shelter carved Wooden DC-3s in the 1960s & 1970s...; was able to lure the Great Cargo Birds to return, once more, and once again disgorge their Shipments Of Plenty...
      If that makes sense...
Witchcraft, casting spells, sympathetic magic...; "Build it, and Customers WILL Come !!!".

i completely agree tourism is great for any country town including Glenn innes and any town should be trying to keep tourism and money within the town and not allow it to go off to other towns or worse overseas.
however big business and multi- nationals seem to do this all to often and that is what I dislike.
Yes I realize and understand why the lighting and drainage had to be upgraded - but it seemed a bit extensive for what they were doing just to put in power and water drain age up grades. All very disappointing from my point of view and i am in no means a local.

My Grandfather used to close up the Workshop for a week or a fortnight, and then set his Deckchair up in the Back Yard, and watch his Potatos growing...
These days they call it a "Staycation".
I reckon the Chamber of Commerce should try promoting the idea of people spending at least Half their annual holidays where they live and work...; it would halve the local losses from people running away from wherever they make their living, as if they can't stand to look at what they've done unless they're too busy to scratch themselves...
The bottom line is that the Environment is now too degraded to support an Economy which pays people so much they can afford to travel for the fun of it, and anybody whose "Business Model" relies on a constant rate of Tourism is living in Dreamland, and those who predict Tourism to increase should probably eat less Prozac, or Ecstasy, or whatever it is they're warping their heads with...(?).

OK, I give up...; what does the Glen Innes Main Street have to do with "Learners" ?
I started living in Glen Innes in 1882, when my father's father's father brought the Family DNA to the District.
3 Main-Street Business-Owners asked me to make this Video, there was such support for the Video that it was shown in School to every Class from Kindergarten to Year-12, after somebody who liked it linked it to the Glen Innes Buy-Swap-&- Sell FB-Page...; so I found out, afterwards.
If there are any Locals of whatever type who disagree with the Video then I have yet to hear from them (to qualify as "Local" requires one to have attended the local Kindergarten as a Student..., "Established Locals" are peopl who had a Parent attend the same Kindergarten, "Old Locals" had an Ancestor attend the Kindergarten before WW-1, and "Original Settlers"are still living on a Land-Grant which was made to their Family before 1880...) ; though some "Floaties" have seen fit to feel outraged, and have vented their (transient) and ignorant arrogant hubristic fashion-conscious little opinions.

      G'day,
Well, I wouldn't say that I'm "hating" as such...; but I do like to try to figure out what's going on and have my little say about it.
After all, I've been living here since 1882, when Dad's Grandfather brought the Family DNA to live in the district, so it 's my Ancestral Homelands that're being messed around with to please a bunch of people who've floated into town and will float out again to retire somewhere else entirely, after having procured a living for themselves by stuffing up the Landscape I grew up in...
As it happens, there's a funny side to this Video...
Last week my daughter met the new tennant in the Flat beside hers, a bloke in his 40s whose wife was to follow a week later, so my Dottarchild gives the Newbie a cup of coffee & conversation turned to what brought the bloke to Town...
Turns out he didn't know which town to come ti so he Googled all the Town Names, and THIS came up under Glen Innes, and it showed all the buildings and the streetscape and told a bit of how the town works, and none of the other towns had anything like such an infirmative Video, so here he came, with his Wife to follow along...; and did my Daughter know that there was some local bloke putting Glen Innes on UA-cam...?
And she had to admit that "Yes, I know him, it's my father, I bookmarked the Channel onto his Mobile Phone.. "; which was apparently totally unbelievable until my portrait was pointed out, sitting beside the TV in her lounge-room...(!).
      Have a good one,
      ;-p
      Ciao !

  • @WarblesOnALot
    @WarblesOnALot  9 років тому

    G'day,
Well, that's nice for you...; how long have ye bin-livin' in the Glen.., days, weeks, or months ?
My Father's Grandfather brought my Family's DNA to live in the Distict in 1882.
I liked the main Street the way it was.
The Water-Pipes did need to be replaced, granted, and the Electricity Supply did need to be relocated..; but the Lights, the Rocky Garden Beds, and the Black Bitumen overtopping the White Concrete were costly, unneccessary, and counterproductive.
The Lights do not "fit" the "Look" of the Historical Buildings & Facades, and they're so high up that they're dimmer at Ground-Level than the old ones used to be.
The Flower-Pots are ugly, pointless, and consume 24 Car-Parking Spaces.
The White Concrete A) gave the Streetscape a unique, iconic & unmistakable appearance, and B) it was relatively COOL on a Hot Day...; I've measured it at 44 Degrees Celsius, wheras the Black Shit in front of the Town Hall was 60 Degrees, and soft as Toffee from the Solar Heating.
I reckon Glen Innes was a better place, before Council transformed the Main Street into a Solar Thermal Space Heater.
And, THIS VIDEO WAS MADE AT THE REQUEST OF 3 DIFFERENT MAIN STREET BUSINESS-OWNERS...; and it's been shown to the Students of all the Schools in the Town...
So, you're in a tiny minority, if you really do like the altered state of the Main Street..; but if you actually do feel that way, then go down there with your Mobile Phone and spend 15 Minutes making a Video half that long, then post it on YT and see how many views it collects...
I'm pretty happy with the results I came up with...
