- In this installment of Song of the Week, I play "Paulie's Little Nightmare" by Paul Black & The Flip Kings.
If you dig the tune and still have a CD player, you can (maybe) purchase the album here (sorry, it's difficult to find these days.)

In this video I use:
**Jetslide guitar slides
**Boss ME-80 guitar multi-effects pedal
**National Triolian
Love the outtakes!! That is true Orq fashion right there.
Haha! Thanks, dude. I'm a goofball. 😉😂 Big hugs to ya, brotherman.
I bought a Jet Slide on Amazon yesterday and was looking around for a “how to” video. I’m so glad I ran across your page! Thanks for the blues!
That's great, Catherine! So glad the video was helpful, and welcome to the wonderful world of JetSlide. Happy guitar playing, and thanks for subscribing. Cheers! - Orq
Wow!! I don't know how I missed this post until just now. I am a huge Paul Black fan and a big Mighty Orq fan too!
Black had so much slide technique and his tone was just the right combination of swampy filth. He was also a very early proponent of fretting behind the slide. Sonny Landreth is often credited with popularizing this revolutionary technique but I believe Black was doing this before Landreth's recordings began. BTW, this is another example of Orq's masterful playing. Very, very nice rendition.
Man thanks for the kind comment, and so glad you dug my version of this tune! Been a Paul Black for many years, but you're maybe the first person that I've encountered who knows him or his music. Very cool, my friend!
@@TheMightyOrq Hey Mighty!
Yes I do really dig your playing and singing. Are you still doing your Thursday night streaming? Also, years ago youTube had a video of you playing a Robert Johnson tune on a veranda overlooking a city street. The production was top shelf and the playing and singing were too. I just looked for it and it is apparently gone. Is that true? Thanks for all you do.
Sonny and Paul were on the road together. From what Paul said they both worked on the behind the slide thing.
Hey Mister Mighty Orq, glad you dig King Dollar. I played bass on that album with Paul, Andy and Brian. Paul is a genius slide player and singer and it was an unbelievable experience to play behind Paul. Live shows blow the album away. The tunes went long, full of twists and turns, huge dynamic shifts, and interplay between instruments. It was some of the best music I ever made.
You grabbed onto Paulie’s Nightmare - you felt the scariness!
Holy macaroni, dude! What a joy and an honor to hear from you. Thank you for the kind compliment. It means the world to me! That record was a huge influence on me as a kid, and to this day is, in my opinion, one of the great roots/blues albums of the last 40 years. Thanks so for this message, man. I'm blown away!
Oh, one other thing: if you're around this evening at 6:30pm central time, I'll be doing a live stream on this channel. Will definitely include Paulie's Little Noghtmare in the early part of the setlist. Thanks again, man. Cheers!
@@TheMightyOrq - Have you figured out any other tunes from King Dollar?
It is a great album but too bad the House of Blues Music label was shutdown by their parent label.
I won’t make it tonight because I’m traveling. Have a great show.
Man, it's been a while since I listened to the album, actually. But now I'm gonna go back and see what I can figure out. Safe travels to you, and please give any and all interested parties my very best regards. Cheers, and thanks so much again for saying hi!
I actually got a promo copy of the record in '95. Saw it in a few record stores in Houston and Austin, but yeah, when HOB records folded... 🤷♂️🤦 Oh, the music business.
Awesome. I think this is that band whose album you mentioned and recommended 2 livestreams ago. Great work here as always! Rock on
Thanks, Colton!
