- This series of videos explores the history and evolution of cigar box instruments both as vehicles of creativity, and as symbols of American ingenuity; their reinterpretation in the modern era, and the mystique that is at the heart of these most simple and simultaneously complex musical instruments.
In Part 1 of this series about Cigar Box Guitars entitled, "What's in the Box?" I perform my interpretation on Son House's song, "Death Letter Blues" on cigar box with some modern embellishments. In Parts 2 & 3 I delve into the history and development of this instrument from its inception and construction to its modern incarnations.

Nice! :) Btw..what's the 'slider' you're using? Looks pretty cool and definitely puts out some 'different' sounds! Also, I just subscribed so I'll be watching for more! I recently started building cbg's and am also learning to play as I'm building. Been a fan of music ever since I was old enough to know I was alive..lol..but never thought I could play anything. Tried guitar once, about 45 years ago, that wasn't pretty..lol. But, with these I learned two songs in less than 4 hours! :) And..I'm already on build number 6, with the parts waiting for 3 more, including more cbg's, a 2 string bass, and several Diddley Bows! This is FUN! :)
