We can understand why and try to stop the action or behavior... But damage is done. Or the one most people know and still argue about... Jenny in Forrest Gump. I adore the scene where Ted reads the letter and though we don't know two words (outside of favourite) of the letter they trust the audience enough to know exactly how good it was just by the looks on their faces. Absolutely stellar writing and acting and far too many other reactors skim right past it. Thanks guys.
They showed who Nate was in season 1, people just thought it was funny and laughed it off. I'll repeat one thing I said in that episode. The talk he had with the guys in the lockerroom where Roy tore up the bench? That wasn't him firing them up, that was him saying his true thoughts about them, talking down to them all with permission from Ted, or so he thought.
ERIC 😂😂😂 his reaction to Nate was just like mine.. that's brilliant writing how they show us some characters evolve from low and others devolve. And the human condition.
My favorite scene in the show is the Bye Bye Bye dance… Will in the background, Roy singing the words, Beard so serious… and how into it the team is (especially Jamie!!) and how hard they all try… the moment of silence and then Beards approval … and finally the massive celebration!!!! So good!!!! Brings me pure joy.

I hated that Nate became what he became but I also love it because the writing did such a great job with the whole show and when we learn more about Nate over the next season it ties in perfect. I think the show had a great ending after season 3 and as much as I want a season 4 I am happy how it has ended for now. Re: Nate, Actors that become famous will tell you the same thing. Just because their circumstances have changed doesn’t mean that the person that they are has changed. As much as Nate's betrayal twists the knife, it is great character writing. A lot of the same things we cheered Nate for in season 1 have progressed and been taken to the extreme to make the things we hate in Season 2 (and 3).
Here’s the thing about this show. It’s got a lot of narratives about fathers. For Nate, he has a lot of father trauma. You can see in the way his father treats him, Nate feels that he is never good enough for his father. So when Ted came in and raised him up, Nate latched onto that. We see the moment Nate starts to shift when Ted brings Roy on as a coach. This affects Nate deeply; it makes him feel like he’s not good enough for Ted, and he starts to spiral.

One thing I only picked up on when rewatching this series is that Ted isn't really a good football coach. That's more where Nate, Beard, and Roy excel. Ted is the more of a coach in the team's personal lives in that he inspires them to work together and have more confidence in themselves, something he does with everyone and not just the team. That's where I think some of Nate's misplaced anger comes from, where Ted made each member of the team better and brought them together, but they really didn't start winning until Nate started giving strategies
Ted's forte is building team chemistry and a strong locker room vibe. Beard is the perfect assistant who steps up to fill the boss's deficiencies. Roy is great at individual technique, training, and conditioning. Nate is the strategist.
