A couple notes - some of the pens (such as the Staedler and Generic stylus) won't fit inside the pen holder of the case I have. Outside of that, it looks like the Kindle is still a) on sale and b) actually will deliver before Christmas! Link here: geni.us/n7yW. Thanks everyone for all your support! Have a Merry Christmas!
Solid and detailed review. Best one I’ve seen on the Scribe. I especially appreciate the breakdown of the different size comparisons of the scribe vs other tablets, along with pen options. Thanks for sharing.
I replaced the iPad with Kindle Scribe, and I felt 80%satisfied. My needs are very clear: reading, taking notes. The deficiencies are not enough optimization of PDF, not comfortable reading the literature.
I agree with you about the form factor of the Scribe. I was surprised that none of the review videos ever mentioned it! There is such a thing as a device being too thin, surprisingly enough. It just makes holding and writing on it very awkward unless you have a case. I hope future generations have the thickness and backing material that the Kindle Paperwhite has - then it will be absolutely perfect.
The thinness is desirable for writing on a desk. It has rubber feet on the back, which indicate it is designed to be laid flat. If you are writing on a desk like that, the less you have to lift your hand of the table to write near the edge, the more comfortable it will be
I totally understand why they didn't make it so that you could write "On" a regular kindle book. Because, allot of people switch devices (with Wispersync), so when you go to a device with a different text flow.... the marking/note would misalign with the text.
I can't believe it. Not 2 hours ago I bought the Kindle Scribe on sale from Amazon and then your video shows up in my UA-cam feed. Spooky. Wait, it gets spookier.I was seriously considering canceling the order. (The sale price of $300 is still a lot of money.) Watching your video alleviated the fear that I had made a bad decision. Thanks!
I enjoy it for multiple reasons, many of which you’ve listed. I do prefer to have color highlighters of which this doesn’t have. It’s kind of frustrating for me to annotate pdfs on for this reason. And this was the main reason I purchased this device.
Interesting review of the kindle scribe considering that you're an ipad guy. Its good to see someone appreciate this device despite of its very limited capabilities. It really is a digital minimalist device
Love that term: digital minimalist. There are those days you want the distractions to go away and just read and journal and scribble. Like the old days of paper!
As a someone who studies philosophy, the problem I really had with kindle scribe is that u literally cannot open longs pdf with images (I mean scanned books) and that's really a shame.
I don't find it good for my purposes, but hopefully they fix it. I work with large pdfs and need to be able to mark them up, take notes etc. You can upload them in kindle format or keep the native pdf format, but either format has some serious limitations. I have an the first gen. remarkable too, and don't like it because no back lit display.
Pretty comprehensive review, thanks. I am just new to using e writing tablets, I just received my K Scribe a week and a half ago and love it. This does most of what I was hoping for, just reading and taking notes pretty much. The one disappointment I do have, which you mentioned is not being able to open more than one notebook or ebook at one time. This would be a huge improvement from my perspective as I desire to take a lot of notes while reading a book or even being able to copy notes from one notebook to another at times. I know the sticky notes are great, but it would be greatly beneficial to be able to sketch a few visible notes here and there on the page. I hope future upgrades will cover this off. Apart from that, this thing is worth every penny, I think. There really isn't anything else out there for this kind of money and have these features. Thanks for your review.
Thank you for a great review! I have the Kindle Scribe and love it. Still trying to learn the various nuances but I will get it. This definitely is a keeper.
If this wasn't what you were looking for I chose the boox note air 3c a color eink tablet with notes function that comes with a pen instead. It was $500 but the android capabilities lets me have all the storefronts for books and Libby. Plus the color is great for notebooks. I have all my journals digital now on it and it has a recording option in its built in notes app for people who want to record meetings while they take notes. Plus it does split screen and can use a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse as well.
Just got one n I have to give it a chance. Purchased on eBay open box but it’s like new. Paid less than the actual price so that helps. So far I’m not too impressed. I think if you’re gonna do reading mostly just get a lower price kindle. But I’ll give it much more time n see. Great review. Oh plus mine doesn’t make a writing sound but that’s ok.
I know the ipad is a bit distracting but I really think when it comes to writing, taking notes and reading simultanously and Ipad is best. you can split screen and use free writing apps. And for the same price (if you get the budget $330) option.
I bought it. I hate it. Nobody is mentioning an importatnt thing: everytime I turn the page, the screen takes a long time (thinking?) then it flashes and goes completely black, and only then does it show the next page. You can't search inside the book or flip through it. It's a disaster.
I have a quick question about the kickstand cover you have in this video. At one point, you mention that it goes into and can be removed from that cover fairly easily, but you say that you wouldn’t try to do it too much though. Did you mean that more in the sense that you would worry it might damage that cover, or that it might damage your Scribe?
Thanks for your informative video. I have a couple of questions. First, is it possible to upload books (Pdf and Epub) that I did buy to Kindle Scribe? Second, can I copy a text from Pdf or E book to my notes?
Good Video - Thanks - I have an IPAD 11” M4 Pro and Love it - EXCEPT I still don’t like the feel of writing on it, even with the PaperLike screen protector. I love the Remarkable 2 but hate the Eco system - Apple Notes is So Much more powerful. Do you see an opportunity - to leverage this ALONG with the IPad? I find I use my IPAD exclusively for content consumption - but still need a digital “notebook” - is this worth it? - or hold out for a Remarkable 2. I hate to chase the technology - but that I feel that is what is missing for me with the IPAD? I know first world problems - but as long as we are looking at options.
Bro, nice hat. Thanks for the advertising. Hope all is well. As for the review, I still love the old school method of holding a paperback or hardcover book.
My first time on your channel and really enjoyed the video. Great content and production quality. I purchased a Kindle scribe on sale for 240 bucks, which I think is quite fair for the device!
Max uoload file size is 200MB ! So not able read pdfs above 200mb. Without sd card, all personal pdfs must be uploaded ... only personal drive is 5 Gb for those documents?
Hey Harris. First time on your channel due to the Kindle Scribe. Man hope I will get answer from you or anybody else who has a Scribe and can compare with my experience. I got a problem of the display on the right edge of the screen (anywhere between 5 - 0mm) not registering properly the pen interaction - like writing in those areas or tapping on the toolbar. There is definite difference with how the screen recognises the pen strokes on the left edge of the screen, where works with no problem. So in order to get the right edge work properly I am forced to apply more pressure on the display with the pen. Kinda gets really annoying when you use the toolbar a lot or you see your pen skipping. The problem was worse in the third party case where probably the magnets messed things up even more. But even outside the case the problem persists, albeit in a smaller degree. Could you guys please check how its on your Scribes?
Are you using a 3rd party cover? I noticed an issue with the magnets on a third party cover similar to what you're describing. In the end I went back to the Amazon cover.
I don't have any issues with the right edge of my device, so perhaps it's a hardware issue. Have you tried moving the toolbar to the left side of the screen?
Do you have a suggestion: I am brand new to the IPad (10th Generation). I'm looking for an App (I guess) that would be good for making up documents, like one would proof-read a paper. I nomrally would use Word, print out my sermon, then work through it with a pen. I'd like to do that with an Ipad. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I use GoodNotes on my iPad, which can import pdf files for markup and has a pretty good writing experience (for an iPad). I also have Documents by Readdle, which was free for the basic functionality and has some good file-management features. You can print or export your sermon to pdf and then markup in either of these apps (or others).
I really tried to like this scribe, but, it’s too limited for me. The iPad really solves all of my issues…it’s color, I can split the screen to have a book on one side, Goodnotes on the other. I was disappointed.
hey, can you flip pages when you've written notes on this ? So if Ive got 5 pages of notes, can it flip to the next note page with a click of a button ?
what about the screen ? I use wacom tablets and a pen, and over time as I've been using the tablet got scratched. And as far as I knowm the screen is using a plastic surface. How about the durability while using the pen?
@@idontwantcorporateretaliat6301 I use the original ones yet got scratched of daily use. If that so is normal and natural that this screen will have this issue, too. Can it be used with some glass protection ( for the screen )
Does anybody know of a small device? That is great for Microsoft Word. And I mean, downloading Microsoft Word instead of using it online? All I want is to write. That's it? I don't wanna watch videos. I don't wanna play video games. I thought this would be good, but the problem is my writing sucks and if it doesn't turn my hand writing into something I can read this isn't what I want. I truly do appreciate you. Making this because it did help me tremendously. To stay away from this which is too bad. I hate that my writing sucks so bad
I put a popsocket on the back of mine which has a clear case on it, the socket is on the case not my actual device for holding it. It is bigger than the typical e-reader but, I use for work notes and to have a book access for when I want to read.
One thing I have yet to see covered in a review with the Scribe. I know you can use the software to transfer documents to the Scribe for mark up, but what about transferring hand written notes from a meeting to your computer (not using any document mark up)? Does it convert your notes to text or is an image?

Solid and detailed review. Best one I’ve seen on the Scribe. I especially appreciate the breakdown of the different size comparisons of the scribe vs other tablets, along with pen options. Thanks for sharing.
No games, social media, messages, and other things that distract. A great way to disconnect…in a connected way.
I replaced the iPad with Kindle Scribe, and I felt 80%satisfied. My needs are very clear: reading, taking notes. The deficiencies are not enough optimization of PDF, not comfortable reading the literature.
This was the most useful review ever! Knowing that I can’t compare side by side or the sticky notes are dealbreakers. Thank you!!

You can convert handwriting to text or you can export your notes to your computer (I believe as a pdf)
how do you add send to kindle to your amazon bar
Go to www.amazon.com/sendtokindle and then add a bookmark, which looks different depending on the web browser

The price on this thing and the remarkable 2 make absolutely no sense. They use mobile tech from 2011 with a e-ink screen that can't be "that" expenisve. So why do these things cost an arm and a leg? A remarkable costs more than my 4k 240hz, mini led (over 1100 dimming zones),32" monitor. That just makes no fkn sense to me. A remarkable costs as much as a mid tier phone or a cheaper desktop.
It's e-ink which isn't that expensive of a technology. With hardware froim 2011 or something. They can't even bother to give the devices hardware that's smooth enough for the menu to be super responsive and more capable.
Maybe no economies of scale and not enough competition.
