Given the friendship between Captain Jacob Keyes and Johnson, losing Miranda Keyes must have felt like losing a niece to Johnson.
Friendship? I'm not even sure Johnson has ever even met Captain Keyes before the battle of Reach. What are you on about?
@@dumat100”You know, your father never asked me for help either,” implying they had known each other but he was too stubborn to ask Johnson for help despite being able to help out. Seems like they had at least some sort of sense of comradery for one another for Johnson to say this to Miranda
@@jacobwhelan45That...doesn't really mean anything. Keyes not asking for help is just a statement on him being stubborn. And as far as I can find Johnson only served with Keyes during Halo 1, so it sounds more like a snap judgement more than anything. An easy one to make since Keyes also had the habit of commanding from the front against the advisement of his troops. This is starting to sound like head canon to me.
@@dumat100 it’s about the phrasing. I would agree with you except he didn’t say “Your father never asked for help either,” he said, “Your father never asked ME for help either.” That implies they’ve worked together to some decent capacity
Edit: it would probably help if you had read the books as well. Johnson has served on the Pillar of Autumn several times since before Keyes even commanded it. He was present when Keyes made a difficult maneuver that led to him becoming a captain. He also spent a decent amount of time working with Keyes on Reach leading into CE and obviously worked closely with him during CE. That’s just the books though, the games seem to imply that they knew of each other well and were fond of each other, or at least Johnson was of Keyes. We don’t see much of Keyes in the games
The chat trying to communicate to Meg the Hornet has missiles via emojis was hysterical lol
well it's hard to watch so...
It’s amazing how much emotion a faceless character can show. Chief’s body language when he sees Keyes dead says a lot. He was close to her dad, and the pain he must have felt not being able to save either one is shown really well in that brief moment.
It’s honestly such a nice detail when you add in the fact that Miranda’s death was added in pretty late in development, after various executives and producers (iirc) were presented with the story as it was and decided they needed to add a death for more drama. I only wish the camera actually focussed on Chief for a few frames instead of that real wide shot he’s given where your focus immediately goes to the Arbiter, it’d do a better job of conveying Chief’s mental state at losing another Keyes on his watch.
The slumped shoulder, the relaxed knees… and they say you can’t show emotion from a mask.
He's close to her mother too.
@@Sacrificial_Spaghetti she wasn’t though, so I don’t know that he even saw her as her daughter at that point since they were so different.
@@nitsuA_LHwhy wasn’t she? Did Miranda resent Halsey for what she did with the Spartan lls? Or am I using that word wrong lol
“And so . . . you must be silenced.”
TELL ‘EM ARBY
EPIC VILLAIN DEATH!!!!!
Sir this is Arby's
CHILLS
It hits even harder when you realize that in Halo 2, the Prophet of Truth told the Arbiter that heretics “must be silenced!”
I love the fact that Meg actually did the duel, it took me like 10 years to realize that was what I'm supposed to do in that room (I just went guns blazing against all the brutes every single time lol)
As soon as I saw a large group of them I just started throwing grenades
Me too bro
"Arby why did you fall 😢"
Arby: "YOU RAN ME OFF THE BRIDGE YOU MAD MAN"
Whoever did the brute voicelines did an amazing job, they sound exactly how you'd imagine a brutish angry bunch of aliens would sound.
John DiMaggio voices the brutes in this also he's the voice of Marcus Fenix in Gears of War AND Jake the dog in Adventure Time
I'm sure someone explained it during or after stream, but the reason you died trying to jump down to the lower zone was due to an invisible killzone, not to fall-damage. The devs really don't want you skipping the path down. lol
Ah that brief moment where you team up with the Flood to defeat the Covenant... no one saw that coming. This was the best mission because it just throws everything at you. ground combat, vehicle combat with tanks and warthogs, areal battles, ground battles, 2 scarabs, repeat 2 scarabs, you fight the Flood, you fight alongside the Flood, and Arbiter finally puts his sword through the lying Prophet of Truth.
That smile that creeps on your face at 15:18 and 58:38 when the first piano keys play is the most relatable thing ever. Every time I hear those first piano keys, a flood of memories and nostalgia just flow into my mind of all of my childhood memories of playing the halo trilogy. with my father during halo 1 and 2. And racing to get home from school back in 2007 to play with my friends for halo 3. Gets me teary eyed every time I hear those piano keys, was truly a magical time to be playing these games as a child❤
That part always had me crying when Miranda got killed.
If you think Master Chief outlive Captain keys and his daughter in a lot of ways he saw two generations die on his watch like that really got me like we saw two of them die in the game.
And the look on Johnson's face like you know the the writing was excellent in the animation was the translate that he was very sad because he lost also seeing that Captain keys and his daughter died
Chief slumping his shoulders is the part that gets me. The symbol of humanity that is supposed to stand tall and strong. Showed vulnerability.
And it was crazy that the flood actually teamed up. Like we were fighting side by side with the flood for a minute that was crazy
The Flood doesn't want Truth to activate the rings because they will lose every living organism to feed on, that's why they team up with Chief and Arbiter to stop Truth and immediately turn on you once the activation sequence is over
That brief taste of what it's like to see the Flood from the other side is still, to this day, one of my favorite parts in the Halo series. Up there with finding out you get to play as Arbiter. Halo 3 is such a good culmination of the main trilogy, in so many ways. They really refined the game formula so well and it looks so good despite its age (I just wish they could touch up the human faces).
love that moment with the Arbiter.. Thousands upon thousands of years being at the mercy and knees of the Covenant, the name of the Arbiter turned to shame... He finally ended it all.
1:24:09 Here, for the first time you get a true taste of why the Flood is so dangerous.Even willing to form temporary alliances only to betray them later, this fact insinuates an intelligence at work that one would think almost uncharacteristic of the Flood.I won't say anymore because I'd like you to figure the rest out yourself via enjoying the extended lore.
On another note,on to the last few missions.Marty really outdid himself with the musical score on the last mission.
Truly one of the best levels in the entire franchise. The music, story beats, tragedy, working with the flood, its truly peak Halo.
It is a spike rifle, like a human weapon but Brute made. They made magnetic-type weapons and receivers that take in ballistic super heated spikes, shrapnel or delayed explosive slug rounds.
The same weapon that was showcased in the "Believe" ad campaign that the veteran ex-marine held
"Holding an enemy weapon like this... feels... I don't like it."
The same weapon that was used to kill Miranda.
One of my most favorite (and often unoticed) details in Halo 3 is how the game builds tension through its music. Throughout the action of the game, you'll hear stripped-down and bare instrumentals. The songs never really seem to "resolve" either. It's because you aren't actually hearing the full song, and thematically, you haven't "resolved" the fight with the convenant. As you play, these different layers get added together and you slowly get to hear more and more of the full thing, it sounds more large and epic as the stakes and tensions rise. At the pivotal moments in these final missions, especially the double scarab fight, you hear the musical culmination that the game has been building to all along. All the layers get added together for Truth's last stand against humanity. Knowing this on a replay adds even more to the payoff of that double scarab fight and that awesome song.
The arbiter and chief being back to back on each other is one of my favorite moments in all of gaming 🥲❤
1:22:48 humans are the only ones who can activate forerunner technology (the reason why 343 GS needed chief for the index, tartarus needed miranda in H2) so Johnson asking her to kill each other was to stop Truth from firing thr Ark.
@ 1:38:10 I always see this: When a content creator is playing a game for the first time, and they will just be obviously thinking out loud to themselves, and then a viewer will take that as an invitation for them to answer their question. "Is he going to sacrifice himself?" Then someone tells her, "nope."
Can you just let a first time player be in suspense and wonder, just like we had the luxury of back in the day? She will find out naturally.
Marine gets infected by the Flood: "This is so sad!"
Brute gets infected by the Flood: "This is so cool!" 🤣
I love how you simultaneously have the worst and best grenade placement lol
She is both terrible at the game and great at the game
I cant believe the shotgun ODST was riding shotgun.
Flawless writing
Even though I missed the voice actor of truth but getting the actor that played general zod in the original Superman movies was a crazy choice I mean he really did do a great job with taking over it truth. And I apologize because on top of my head I can't remember the actor's name who's playing truth right now in the game. But I know he played general zod in the Superman 2
Terrence Stamp is his name.
@@ragingsithmaster Terrance stamp not only played general zod he played jor-el in Smallville..
@@TheHeroBleeder Never watched Smallville, but that reference isn't lost on me. 😂
I always see people playing Halo 3 for the first time and get confused on why Miranda and Johnson tried to kill themselves and it’s because the rings needed a reclaimer (Humans) to activate it
And the reclaimer has to be ALIVE, that's why Johnson was trying to get killed by the brute
Oh man I love this mission. Gameplay, music, story is all perfect here. Fun fact about the flood music as you escape from them at the end: there a backwards message in it from the gravemind if you play the song in reverse. It’s some creepy stuff!
What I've just now realized as to why not only Meg but many modern gamers are so bad at games like Halo 3 and games from the 2000s to mid-2010s is because in these times we all got a head start in figuring out how the game works thanks to instruction manuals in the game box we get as well as gaming magazines to Strategy Guides. Modern gamers, nowadays throw themselves fresh into a new game and gets distracted by their twitch chats too much to focus on what the game is telling them to do next. It's why these streams sometimes are so unwatchable, as you think you're reliving the days when a modern gamer is playing a game from our days fresh, but back of your mind you feel something is off.
Yes, it's quite disappointing that modern gaming and the modern gamers fail to live up to our expectations isn't it? Oh, well.
Thank you!! My words exactly
You learn faster by doing, not about reading. We didn't read manuals or guides back then.
The real issue is how we're baby fed information now and when a game comes around that makes you think for yourself, people don't know what to do and ask for help.
Nah, they're just bad, reading doesn't give you aim and basic strategy
I think running a chat takes away some Brian power as well. This is the 7th mission and the 3rd game of halo that she kept getting on the passenger seats during the scarab battle instead of driving.
The Miranda Keyes death is one of my least favorite parts of 3. It really doesnt make sense, why did she go alone with no Marine back up, why did she go in with nothing heavier than a shotgun, why did she go at all when she's supposed to be commanding a ship? It felt odd, like Bungie just wanted to kill off a bunch of characters just for the drama.
This is PEAK halo
Nothing is more annoying than people in the chat thinking they’re being subtle while giving away major spoilers. Sheesh. Just let her experience the game and stop hinting at stuff.
"How could I have known the parasite would follow?" - He's talking about those spoilery people in chat....
Honestly, should've just kept 'em on emote only smh
Another really awesome day with Meg.
💖💖👋👋💖💖
A reminder to let Meg discover things for herself! Please do not post spoilers, future/past lore, or tips. We know you’re all passionate, but it lessens the fun for Meg if she can’t find out these things in her own time. Sit on your hands if you feel that urge.
“But this comes from a book!” Yes, and Meg might want to read those books! Please do not ruin the fun for her.
Thank you!
45:25 i don’t remember whether you mentioned it was enabled, but did the Brute just say “he was my lover!” without IWHBYD?
41:36 maybe the greatest grenade throw of all time
Master Chief Petty Officer is his rank. He’s a soldier, but the highest rank you can be before becoming an officer. He’s happy to take orders from officers but he’s a leader of other marines and lower ranking Spartans. The books flesh out his leadership skills a lot more
The mission that made them brothers
Ooof, I hope your twitch chat isn't this bad to you for the rest of the series
they'll prolly be worse when she plays 343 games.
@@outcaster418 It will go like this: "Get ready for Halo 4, this is where the series falls off." "I don't like Halo 4, because blah blah blah."
Then Meg will finish it and say something like, "I enjoyed it, it was pretty good."
Then the chat will switch up and be like, "yeah Halo 4 is actually good." "It's one of my favorite Halo games."
@@lilfuzzballayup. pretty much, thankfully Meg doesn't seems to be that influenciated by other people opinions so, hopefully she'll experience all the games without any prejudice.
Don’t know if it was mentioned but that famous line from the arbiter just before killing truth could have been a throwback from halo 2 when truth told the arbiter that the heretic needed to be silenced
1:20:17 that was freaking hilarious, especially with Arbiter's barely audible scream and the context of this scene
The dude riding shotgun in the warthog while using a shotgun, tickled my fancy.
Edit: Also, it might be easier for her to see things if she had her image and the chat on the bottom corner of the screen instead of the middle.
she can see the full screen! the chat and her image are added via OBS, but she looks at the game screen to play instead of the screen with all the bits on.
Ah, okay. Wasn't sure. I was gonna say, I would never be able to play that way.@@paperstainedink
Watch her use a freaking spartan laser on grunts.
I'm dying of laughter every time arbiter dies 🤣🤣🤣
In all the years I’ve played this game I’ve never heard guilty spark say “that’s the last titanium straw”.
The scream of chief falling out the hornet & flying to another universe after hitting the scarab are 2 things I’ve never seen ever happen lol
I know this is a bit late but when using melee weapons like the gravity hammer or the energy sword, get close enough and make sure your aiming reticle is red so that you lunge towards enemies and actually hit them. Also using melee when enemies rush you is sometimes more effective than shooting them, (the flood in halo 3 is particularly weak against melee) and it conserves a lot of ammo in the long run.
“They’re like my summons.” The most horrifying summon you could ask for, sure.
Truth ‘technically’ believed in the Great Journey. Contact Harvest goes into more detail.
The short answer: Truth was the only Prophet that knew the full story, but he clouded the details from others to get what he wanted most: power.
From his perspective, the Forerunners ‘Great Journey’ of killing all life and reseeding it with the Halo array and the Ark is kind of like as sending into Godhood.
So in a way if he does the same, with none of his enemies left behind, and a clean universe to repopulate as he pleases, Truth will become what many think of as a god.
This used to be my favorite mission, Halo 3 was my first and I didn't play the others to completion until after Halo: Reach.
And after playing Halo: CE and Halo 2, it's difficult to say it's my favorite now that I know the significance of both Johnson and Miranda.
It's good and most people's favorite mission because of the gameplay, but it's pretty sad in terms of the narrative though.
Watching you play is so entertaining! somewhere 20 minutes in, it clicked and you became a headshot master
I couldn't bear to watch her fight the scarabs 😂
The way your chat tried to tell you Hornets can fire rockets with the emojis only 🤣
Love the bomb emojis in chat to try to hint at the hornet missile attacks.
❤❤❤
Is Meg the Gamer Girl version of Brett Cooper?
Ahhhhhh please release the next part i want to see you finish the fight and revel in this amazing game we all love and cherish so much!!!
After all these years, I learned that the hornets will come back for you 😅
I've played through halo 3 dozens of times. I did not know you could have an honor duel with that brute chieftain and the other brutes just watch
Well, that was certainly a…different…way of going about the duel Scarab encounter 😅
i always feel like Miranda hesitated because she already lost her Father and Johnson was someone her dad trusted and seen as a friend. Killing Johnson would almost be killing an uncle.
When you coop Arby follows the chief to High Charity :)
Meg be like: “no one kills my marines except me”
What kind of weapons we like against the flood? That’s a tricky question meg, specially since the og trilogy has its own sandbox, in halo ce, i would say the best combo actually is the shotty for big flood infected forms and the ar for the flood spore swarm. In halo 2 the best combo against the flood would be energy sword (or the brute shot blade) and frag nades and in halo 3 the best combo and most effective i would say plasma rifle and melee
Nobody told her the hornet has missiles in the initial fight. Dang.
I'm pretty sure shooting at a friendly vehicle will make them stop for you? I think. Im surprised nobody said anything
Cant wait 'till you play Halo 3 : ODST a fantastic experience.
1:07:46 Why would you jump out and go for the legs before taking down the 1st one! You have it on a platter!
I get it about hunters. I like them but feel the same about drones as you with hunters. “Huh. That’s an interesting sci-fi race. That I want nothing to do with. Because worms/bugs.”
Cortina stating “im a thief but I keep what I steal” is referring to the fact that she stole the activation index in halo 1 so if chief finds her he can trigger the ring with her index
i wonder why you people feel the need to spoil the game for others
@@blueshit199 uh I don’t think this is spoilers, what am I spoiling? Him firing the ring? He says he wants to do that at the end of this video. Cortina having the activation index? That’s something from 2 halos ago. Master chief looking for her and potentially finding her? Johnston makes chiefs intentions on this pretty obvious at the end of this video as well. Nothing I said in that comment is a a spoiler
@@bakkysak1681 she doesnt seem to figure that out even if all the signs are in plain sight
@@blueshit199 then that’s not spoiling it’s just presenting the information in a way she can put 2 and 2 together
Not using the Spartan laser on a grunt hahaha
Luv you and your content! 🎉
“What was that?” That was the lamest death in Halo history.
I want flood plushies
I ship Meg and the arbiter
