A tip I picked up for keeping soles white is to brush them with a thin layer of "salon 40" I think traditionally it's used as a hair bleach additive, but it removes yellowing from white shoe soles as well. If you clean your shoes once a week it prolly isn't necessary, this is more a trick for restoring shoes found at the thrift store more so than something necessary for shoes maintained like your collection. But since you asked for tips in your comments I figured I'd mention it. If you ever feel like trying it its really straightforward, brush a thin layer of salon 40, wrap the soles in saran wrap, and let them out in the sun or under a UV light until they bleach white, then unwrap them and wash the salon 40 residue off. Note Idk how well this works with painted soles, or non-white soles. I don't color my hair but from what I understand salon 40 is something you mix with hair bleach to make the bleach work better. Knowing this makes me nervous about trying it with soles that have color on them, though friends have alleged that it works fine so long as the sole itself is dyed a color opposed to painted.
Can confirm, this works and it actually works for most white surfaces that aren't shoe related as well. Yellowing outlet/light-switch covers? Paint some hair bleach on that hoe and wrap it, vitamin D that fool and wash it that night and it'll be whiter than your aunt Susan recording a video of you unwrapping presents on Christmas morning
It’s refreshing to see a new generation doing the things we did back in the 80s & 90s via word of mouth in school profiling at lunch. No internet then. I love the technology and this era. I’m still clean 🧽 and learning some new things. Thanks. 🙌🏾
Don't forget to moisturize your leather shoes after cleaning them! Detergent will be abrasive and dry out the leather, that can cause discoloration and cracking down the road. I found that applying a teenie tiny amount of wax also helps them stay clean and protected from the water after washing :)
Magic sponge eraser to clean the dirt from the midsole. Sometimes it’s just hard to remove that yellow colour with a normal brush. My best friend taught me that trick and I am so thankful haha... it really works🙌🏻
I recently bought some expensive shoes and I was concerned about getting them dirty since they have white soles. This video is perfect and now my shoes look like brand new shoes! No more worrying about getting my shoes dirty when I go to the gym! Thank you sir 🙌👏👏👏👏
When he said "don't wait more than a week because it'll be harder to clean" i screamed because its been 2 years that I haven't cleaned my shoes that I love
Thanks for the tips! As a leather restorationist, I would suggest never using detergent on your leather simply because many of those types of cleaners have surfactants in them that strip the needed oils in and on the leather to keep them from getting dry and keep them supple. If it's the only cleaner you have, I'd highly suggest rehydrating your leather with a conditioner afterwards. Hope that helps.
Hello Devan, you had a great idea to make this video. As I don't understand English too well, at first I thought you were saying "sway" but it was suede! I clean my white and beige fabric with vanish blue gel.
Thank you for this. My shoes are becoming nasty and I always neglected learning to clean them. You kept it nice, simple and short too. You gained a new sub here man and you deserve all the likes.
@@kaitlyn-maisaxon7966 first of all, I never said it was too much work as "universally", meaning there are ways to clean it easily and some are way too much work. For example, would you wash ur shoes every hour even if you haven't worn them? Because technically the air carries debris and when it lands on ur shoe, its dirty. would you consider that too much work?
solid video, i'm glad youre not shilling a bunch of specialty cleaner products that cost too much. by the way, if you have a soft bristle brush, it's ok to brush and wet your suede as long as you go in one direction, then instead of rub drying it, give it a pat dry and let the air take care of the rest. then once everything is completely dry, come in with a dry medium bristle brush and go super lightly over the suede to reset the nap. this is really for mixed fabric shoes like the ones you showed in the video because a towel dusting, eraser, and a lint roller will probably be faster on shoes where the whole upper is suede.
Another recommendation is to use cedar shoe trees to help maintain the shape of your shoes, particularly after you clean them (yes, even your tennis shoes/sneakers). As your shoes naturally dries, the material may shrink or otherwise lose the natural shape. Shoe trees will prevent this reaction. Good cedar trees will also absorb, sweat, salt, and other bacteria that cause odor. I get mine trees for Nordstrom Rack... $15 a pair.
Glad you are making this video. Just bought some nice Koio white sneakers thanks to your sneakers videos. They are so great! unfortunately I had some wine spill on them the other night. I need to clean them but dont wanna turn them yellow using the wrong product or ruin the integrity of the sneaker. Thanks again.
