Yanno it’s funny, I have a friend who works at EAs customer support. The whole thing is driven by money, when you go to the customer support and they get your details and look at your info, beside your name you have Brackets that says how much you have spent on EA games, micro transactions and DLC. And depending on your “rank” depends on how much service you get, how fast your problem is delt with and how lenient they can be. It’s honestly disgusting.

The only AAA game I've bought this year was CoD WW2. I only play the zombies and I've got little over 70 supply drops (earned in game. Didn't buy). I only play zombies and I haven't even giving the micro gambling a second glance. Haven't bought StarWars, CoD:WW2, BF1, or any major AAA release of the last few years. I can say with a clean consciousness - I am NOT part of the problem. In fact I am revisiting most of the classics and older games and having a total blast. And the few modern games I do play at the moment do not have microtransactions or lootboxes or any other kinds of cancerous bullshit. There were days where I looked forward for the next Call of Duty game, the next Battlefield game, but I quickly learned that, that excitment is ill placed and lost interest. I am much more picky with my games now. I pay more attention to games that do deserve recognition and that have clearly put the effort in. That pretty much rules out the modern AAA industry as it stands. And I categorically avoid any games with lootbox/microtransaction systems (except for MMO's - they are the exception to the whole system, as long as it's not P2W)

The thing is, lootboxes have been around for many years and nobody had problems with them in the past. I’ve been gaming for a little over 20 years now and I have no problem with the way that Overwatch or TF2 have been doing it. In fact I actually like the way that they do it because you get a box every time you level up which is a nice little gift every few games and it’s fun to see what new items you get to add to your collection. Now I would absolutely never pay for lootboxes.
HOWEVER, the EA lootboxes are complete bullshit and should never be put into a game.
So basically what they did is take a decent system from other games and said “hey, instead of cosmetics, let’s put in power upgrades and weapons”. This is why nobody cared about lootboxes until very recently.

The depressing thing is, EA realizes they aren't selling to core gamers. Core gamers generally don't fall for this nonsense. Their eyes are on a much broader, more naive audience that doesn't watch these videos, doesn't frequent reddit, doesn't keep up with gaming news beyond watching trailers here and there, and more or less doesn't care.

I bought for the first time Battlefront II 2005 and am loving it! I will not buy the new Battlefront until all this crap is sorted out years down the road.
Meanwhile, Polyphony, the guys who released an unfinished Gran Turismo, are at least making up for it by bringing in over 500 cars completely free, new courses completely free, and a campaign mode (which should of been in the game from the start if you ask me) completely free.
Thank you Polyphony for proving micro transactions and DLC arent necessary in a time where most AAA publishers and devs make it seem like micro transactions and paid DLC are necessary.

To play capitalist's advocate, free updates for failed launches is a common industry thing. Hell, DICE even did it with battlefield 4 and it's still doing better than later battlefields.

We're fucked anyways, the future will be a probably a place were you pay for every KB you use of internet (starts with the net neutrality death) every time you reload in a game like battlefield, every time you log in online, and if you want to buy a game you will have to pay a monthly service for the gaming industry catalog to pay $60 more for the game and careful there cause if you want to play COD online will be $60 more to unlock it, and there's more, if you want to play with friends will be and extra $30 per friend because fuck you they will do whatever they want :3

There's also the KOTOR games(excluding Old Republic which doesn't really count) and all those other old and fairly good Star Wars games. Turns out developers knew how to make a decent Star Wars game 10 years ago and could make it look alright without having to milk customers for as much as they can get.

Saphiros funny thing is theres a difference where EA lootcrates are luterally lootcrates as in they give you items that affect your game whilst TF2 only gives you crates that you could open if you want, and if you do crack them open they are only cosmetics which you could already buy on the market

So many good games across so many platforms and so many genres! :o

Simple reason? They took out the story mode from the originals and made it 100% PVP.

I was waiting for a spoof of E.A. updated and all I saw was the real E.A. ceo come out and laugh.
3 years after the fact, I'm actually happy to say this video didn't age well. Don't get me wrong, EA is still the absolute worst. But they never had DICE reinstate the loot box system in Battlefront II and actually reworked the entire in-game progression system from the ground-up. Up until just a few months ago, the game was getting free monthly content drops and is now more than twice the game it was at launch.
This is one of the few times that the consumer actually made a notable difference.

EA arguably invented the loot transactions. It got popularized by games like TF and CS:GO.

Easy fix: Play Star Wars Battlefront II on GoG, not Origin.
(The joke is that GoG has the original BF2 with working servers and it's better than the new BF2. EA still gets a little of your money but at least you're paying for, and playing, a good game called Star Wars Battlefront II instead of a bad one.)
