WoW yeah it gave me great joy to watch this master at work and, the fact that he is always striving to improve is a testament to his commitment to his art. Thank You.
nice video , If anyone else is wants to find out where to buy tattoo designs online try *Awsomic Tattoo Designs* (do a search on google)? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my co-worker got cool success with it.
This is a beautiful art form. We think of art in general as something we view outside of ourselves and experience in that way, but this art is actually ON ourselves, where we can never view it from the outside. And Horimyo's use of contemporary methods to create his designs shows his progressiveness and ability, as an artist, to make something new.
I really love watching these videos and being able to get a glimpse of traditional and contemporary Japanese culture. The tebori tattoos are beautiful, although the process looks very painful. Thank you for uploading this :)
I have heard it both ways. Some people say that this hurts less and that they have fallen asleep while getting work done. Others say that its much more painfull.
I wonder what the pain level is for this style vs the machine way. There's a shop in my town that happens to do this technique and I would love if someone knew.
I am planing to go to japan, and m possible would be living in kagoshima, does any good tattoo exists over there,so i can have a tattoo, i would be graceful getting the details..
@zusuky21 i dont know...i think with modern tats you get what you pay for, it all depends on the artist, their equipment and the quality of the ink. Ive seen some pricey tats that have still to this day never faded and look like they were printed or like someone slapped a pic on them due to how much detail is in it. Btw you wanna see old school tats? This is nothing, look at tatau's. They had to hammer it into your skin and there was no metal or stone to make it easier, all wood ;)
I usually see these kinds of japanese tattoo art on yakuzas in movies or something. Is this also the way yakuzas get their tattoos? I draw but imagine the precision of this art. Amazing!
Yakuza get their tattoos either way. But the really good ones get it this way. it is proof of their toughness to be able to get horimono all by tebori. It takes YEARS. and is very painful. But the Yakuza are some badass people. So obviously pain doesn't matter for them.
+Tristan Berke i think the machine hurts more, becuse its going mutch faster and deeper in to the skin, but when you get a hand poked tattoo it feels like the needles are just scratching the surface of your skin.
Eric Ny I've actually gotten tattooed both ways while it is true that the machine goes deeper and is faster, tebori takes years, decades even. To do horimono. A machine will take about a years worth of appointments.
+Tristan Berke i can imagine how it will take allot of time! do you like the machin better then tebori? i want to try tebori but here in norway thats not a very common way to get tattooed.
I had it done and it hurts more than the gun with outlines but coloring etc is much better this style. It takes so long though.... 10 hours plus for a small piece
I disagree. The machine moves so fast and you don't feel any "pokes" except the first. With this style you will feel EVERY poke of the needles. It's art as well as a spiritual journey.
I have to follow Martin Tiffany ! Tebori is MUCH more painfull than machine! I dont have anny experience with Tebori but my tattoo artist studied the tradional way in Japan and he says it's like getting stabbed with a knife over and over!
All pain depends on the individual; if you asked me if getting my hand tattoo hurt because you wanted to get one, I'd say that it hurt less than the tattoo on my ribs and wasn't that bad. My friend has had his hand done, and he said it was the most painful piece he's had done. It's hard to say whether tebori is more or less painful because everybody's pain threshold is different. Whether it heals faster or not I wouldn't know.

He said "all handmade is the most valuable thing in any genre", i agree with him

Saving my back for this style. Hoping one day I can meet someone like him.
ive never seen this before its been on youtube for ages! my tattoo brother Horimyo-San!
I live in Japan and there are a lot of tebori masters of this technique. But many work underground. Some of them are on IG.
would be a great pleasure to get a tattoo from him
wow, really nice. I have always been a big fan of Japanese tattoo designs
Dayumm that tiger design looks freaking beautiful 😲

shinji horizakura in New York
This is so awesomeee!
カッコいい😳😳
The level of awesome is beyond comprehension lol, beautiful, just amazing :)
I have heard it both ways. Some people say that this hurts less and that they have fallen asleep while getting work done. Others say that its much more painfull.
I heard tebori tattoos were the most painful kind to get but the best because they're unique and more detailed.
I think it's just that the artists that do tebori are more talented, not that there is any real advantage, but I'm not sure about that.
Aaah an entire back tattoo in this style! It looks so cool but I can imagine it hurt
Great art 👍👍👍
Question is does it hurt more compared to using the machine?
oh my he's coming to my country to tattoo this year

Shout out from Borneo 🙏🏻
Do they do the outlining by hand aswell.? or,?
I love tebori :D it's so awesome!
Beautiful.
for general hygiene and also respect for the client as they share a fairly confined space for hours at a time
Insane skill
idk definitely be keen to get inked that way!
hello can you pls explain what kind of needle you are using for shades
thanks and regards

+Eric Ny I am not a masochist so I don't exactly love pain. but I find tebori very relaxing. while the machine is just a constant buzz and pain.
Iv'e always been curious, why do irezumi artists always wear face masks ?
I had it done and it hurts more than the gun with outlines but coloring etc is much better this style. It takes so long though.... 10 hours plus for a small piece
anyone know why he puts electric tape on the tool?
probably to hold the needle into the woodstick
more likely hygiene
@firth33300 either way they are both painful. Im not sure i could go through with one, would you?
bones and pig's teeth, in fact. The needles themselves (well, the row of needles) weren't made of wood.
Would this hurt more than getting a tattoo from electric needles?
I disagree. The machine moves so fast and you don't feel any "pokes" except the first. With this style you will feel EVERY poke of the needles. It's art as well as a spiritual journey.
Music?
i need oneee
Nice....
SUPER TRADITIONAL TATTOO JAPAN MAXIMUM RISPECT !!!!
Sugoiii ♥♥
hi
i want some of that real tattoo fr
YES!!
cool
Hand poked?! Not to be racist or anything but, America, you got freaking machines to do jobs, why no skill? This man has skill as you can easily see!
Sharing on my Google + page..THE JAPANESE. TEBORI ~ HORIMYO, was who I was Talking Abouts..
I wonder is Tebori is hurtful than machine???
I have to follow Martin Tiffany ! Tebori is MUCH more painfull than machine!
I dont have anny experience with Tebori but my tattoo artist studied the tradional way in Japan and he says it's like getting stabbed with a knife over and over!
It depends on the artist. If he is skilled, no, then it is less painful. If not... prepare for a lot of knife stab moments.
It hurts less than the machine and it heals faster too :3 like about 3 days

interesting...
I know. This looks more painful than the machine >.
