@@christopherparks4342 honestly he may not have been joking at all. Farm tools were a great weapon for ninja because people wouldn't normally be suspicious of someone who looks like a commoner carrying them.
There's probably something within a few feet of you at any given moment that could be picked up and used to kill you without any training whatsoever, pens, cups, keys, bags... a knife. the world is filled with dangerous objects that we just sort of forget are actually dangerous cause we use em so much.
well to be fair we see katanas all the time as the typical arsenal of shinobi, so of course to anyone who knows of how ninja are portrayed in modern media, seeing something like that sticks out lol. i dont think it has anything to do with her being a girl
Wow, thank you so much for this video. It helped to enlighten us to the reality much more than the false impressions we have all had for decades about Ninjas. It was great to see him, he's like a regular person in many ways. Very practical in how to develop and use the skills, as he showed you can use many of the same techniques for Ninja activities or for farming, and some of the same tools! Very pragmatic. Although there was a bit of conflict from what he said about Ninjas main goal is to survive, however they were still called upon in war as spies for espionage or even as assassins. But I think the point is they preferred to not have to use their Ninja skills for killing if it was not necessary. It's always great to shatter misconceptions we have from Hollywood or other sources and get to know the real story behind this famous Japanese discipline. I liked that he was doing exercises that had a Buddhist meaning. That shows he is a Spiritual Warrior which is above all other practices. I hope that he can pass down the tradition, it would be a shame if it died out altogether. Just like the Shaolin or other traditional martial arts practices.
Anime jokes aside, this is fascinating. The man is clearly very intelligent and healthy, and achieved that through practicing ninjutsu. Thank you for sharing this
My feelings exactly. It's so sad to hear him say its not even worth passing down anymore. I understand times are so different but there are lessons there that people still need to know and pass down.
I don’t know why this was in my recommended videos today, but I know it’s going to be the best thing I’m going to see for a while. I wish there was a whole series with this man. He has a very soothing way about him and a sneaky sense of humor that is great. He reminds me so much of my favorite uncle. I have no cultural connection to this myself, but I can’t explain how happy I was to see at the end that he was opening an academy and passing his knowledge down. The interviewer was fun to watch too. I like that she’s just down to try everything no matter how silly it might feel. TLDR; loved this.
I just watched a 70yo man dislocate his shoulder 4 times on command and display it like a hat trick. Never again will I complain about a sore muscle or joints.
5:00 I am a student who is studying world history along with my major. "Shuriken is not a skill of ninja, but samurai's" That was a cultural shock to me...
There are koryu schools like the Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto-ryu that teach shurikenjutsu and other bushido skills. Kusarigama, which are known to be shinobi weapons, are also mostly used by the samurai. The whole "samurai are honorable and don't use cheap tricks" is just propaganda.
He is not a ninja that is actually carrying intelligence gathering and counter espionage. He is a guy who knows ninja skills that is starting a ninja academy.
