so good without music. get a real feel of the shop. (when we ear your own music in the background, that's great... again, that's part of the genuine vibe of the shop)
Very cool! I miss surfing big time. I don't live near the ocean anymore, I'm not a lifeguard anymore, and I done got old! lol I'm just not a strong swimmer like I used to be. But I still watch it! Great video.
I always love the raw sound! Mahalo again (from hawaii) for sharing your knowledge, shaped my first 2 boards this past year and learned some techniques from you!
I just found your channel. Awesome work. I cannot believe you save the nose of that thing. Pretty cool to have a modernish board made with 60's Clark foam.
Loved the quiet work in progress feel - there's plenty of explanatory vids out there so to just sit and watch a craftsman at work was a pleasure without being bombarded with info - Thanx from Oz mate🤘
i did like the footage at the end thanks for making videos.when i was younger we always stripped down boards for blanks that was 54 years ago same process cool to see you kids doing it
Super cool , would have like to see how it went as a quad... I lost a fin once on a 5'6" quad and I probably surfed 80% worse than usual 😂 but anyway ,love to see the craftsmanship 👍🏄
Thank you! I actually met up with another guy who watches the channel and he is helping me get it running again! We traded ding repair work for dirtbike electrical troubleshooting
@@Rogue_wave haha actually yes i am making a video, i have a super ghetto backyard tent setup. i barbarically ripped the glass of the board and started shaping it to the best of my ability. still gotta finish shaping and have some buddies help me glass it. super fun and humbling experience. ill drop a comment when im done with the vid.
This new... im here, im watching, I like IT!!! Push the limits to what restoration really means. Why dont you use the old epoxy peels to do something else... Art work of some kind... Cheers and much success!!!! You need a vacuum for all that blank dust...
looks like it went pretty good for having a fin missing. could maybe use a bit more nose rocker but obviously you were confined to how much you could put into the blank. Would love to see how it goes with all the fins in if you head north for with the swell coming in the 24th. Isn't going to be huge but should be offshore wind. I wish you luck for your next session!
A very cool video. Love the footage of you surfing the board. But as someone who has only shaped one board, never installed hardware or glassed, I could have used a voice over.
Love the board, sort of looks inspiring by Jay’s mavericks board. On a different note I’m making my own hand plane and I’m wondering where you got the strap that you used?
Awesome video! Inspiring. Definitely going to try that. I was wondering why you weren’t using a DA. I’m a woodworker with limited fiberglass experience.
People have been asking me that for months in the comments and I have no good answer other than that I haven’t done any research into the benefits of using one. I also find hook and loop sandpaper pretty expensive.
Honestly, it’s not a great board. That’s not to say I regret making it. I have a ton of fun on boards that other people would write off. The problem with this thing is that it’s too thin to paddle as fast as I’d like, and it needs more rocker. Both problems that would be solved using a regular blank, which is what I’ll end up doing next time a shape a step up / gun!
Shit bru! You got more balls than brains and more talent for repair than the original artists. Hug respect and if you fancy a million year plus apprentice, you just hit me up ❤
Did you use dowels or something else to reinforce the broken stringers? Didn't seem like it had a very good stinger to start out with. Almost feel it would have been better to split the board and glue in a new stringer. Also fiberglass fins are so much better than the Thermtech plastic fins
Dude my garage is far from a dark room I just mix a pinch of uv powder in my resin whenever I need it. I don’t buy premix uv resin for that reason. The lights are just UV-C lights from Amazon.
What a fully awesome video. Tho personally I love it where you explain what you’re doing during the build. One question why chop off what looked like a decent section at the tail and have to do more repair work on the nose (Unless you just wanted to make the vid more interesting and informative - then fair enough)? Great job dude
So I know nothing about board building. But I'm wondering why he can't use household spray can insulation you find at home depot to fix the cracks in the foam??? Is it because it doesn't "weld" the foam together?
Could have surfed sick if you didnt lose the fin on the paddle out such a shame lol still super good video and great surfing for only having 3 fins on a quad lol
@@Rogue_wave I did noticed that the board appeared too flat however it looked great and you learned from your effort. Keep it up. I love your content🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻.
Good question. When you originally route, the boxes fit very snuggly, so you don’t have to worry about the angle. Both futures and FCS boxes get installed straight (90 degrees). I only set the angle when I’m doing repairs and the box has room to move inside the cavity when the filler is hardening. Hope that makes sense.
so good without music. get a real feel of the shop. (when we ear your own music in the background, that's great... again, that's part of the genuine vibe of the shop)
Noted!
I don't know how you are gonna keep making boards when you have those huge balls in your way the whole time. Great video congrats!!! So cool.
Haha thanks dude 🤙🏻
I like the ASMR quality of the ambient sounds. No music or voice over worked for me!
I’m hooked, you do great work. Never thought I’d enjoy videos of people doing (well) what I hate most.

Nice video man! Foam was so trashy-dead so I did not expect that the board would survive to the end, but apparently you fixed it very well.
Dude I thought it was going to snap on the first wave!
Excellent craftsmanship & ballsy surf session
Thank you 🤙🏻🤙🏻

Thanks for the comment Joe. That’s awesome. I hope people are still doing it 54 years from now.
Super nice board. Quality craftsmanship.👍🌊🤙🦆
That's Mad Colours,,, Cool to bring back the board. From what it was,,good 👀to watch,,,
Fascinating then heart stopping. Excellent!
Love this. I hope to be doing exactly this once I retire in 2-6 years :) Well done!
thanks sharing!!! amazing work with the board!
That’s just the greatest! To repurpose old board making them new again. Fantastic!
New life for an old Board! I love it
You are an inspiration. Keep up the good work!
Amazing professional work.
When you peeled that top layer off the Bing…ahhhhh so satisfying!
No wonder you’re so good at board repairs with paddle outs like that!
Epic. Love everything about this

Another Epic episode!
I used to love reshaping old boards. Thank you for sharing. Cheers!

Thanks! Land of the left hand point breaks?
I am from the area surf that spot many times you have to go into hell bent mode to charge it, great job on the reshape and charging it
Good work 👏 👏👏 awsome vid!!!

@@Rogue_wave Nice! That moto is vintage. Kudos on where you were surfing, the paddle out looks challenging, lots of Hazards, well done!
Awesome video!!
Board looks great!
Gonna wait until Saturday night when Im having a few beers.
Really enjoy your stuff
The one pass bit makes it look so easy.
Buying it was a game changer. $40 bit in a $20 router lol
Good ONYA..I have been in the Board Industry here in Australia for over 40yrs..Stll doing it at 64...Started way back in 1976....
That’s awesome, thanks so much for watching. Any tips greatly appreciated, i’m learning as I go!
I like new format
Dope video!
Like your work.nice clean hot coats
Nice work! Dig the no music format with closed captioning. First swell was though with all the backwash. Second swell much cleaner. Heavy ones.
that was cool. good work man.
Good call on no music.
Enjoyed meeting you in PV. Keep it going!
Thanks for watching Danny! Nice to meet you too. That was the first time I've been recognized in public from my youtube vids!
Good work mate
Rad one. So sick to catch one on that last run with it too. Shewwwwwwwwww! 🤙🏼
Keep up with the awesome work these videos are great ❤🤙

Man I’m in SanDiego too I’ve never seen a spot like that before given I’m up north by swamis and turtles but it looks hella fun the swell was mad man
Just awesome

Shapers that surf are great. Shapers that charge are the best.
Thanks Chris!
All for it! I bought an old gun on offerup and took it down to blacks during this swell
Wow, you get some bombs?! Saw clips of it on that Friday, I’ve never seen it that big. Mental.
Crazy you managed with out 1 fin and with plasticish ones
Plunge router for the plugs is an industry standard
Thanks, that is probably going to be my next big purchase. Just booked flights to Nicaragua so it’s gonna have to wait 😂
awesome repair video
Brings back memories of Big Wednesday in Jr High when I thought I killed you guys.

Great video! what kind of paint did you spray the blank with please? Massive props for paddling out in a swell like that 😮
Regular acrylic paint diluted with water to flow better through the gun.
brave to go out in that
Shit bru! You got more balls than brains and more talent for repair than the original artists. Hug respect and if you fancy a million year plus apprentice, you just hit me up ❤
Nice video. Stomach for these big waves too. Regards from portugal
Nice job. I just repurposed an Ellington which is now a Mini Simmons. 🤙🏼🏄🏻♂️
Nice are you going to make a vid?
@@Rogue_wave Yes. When I get the time to edit it.
I love mini simmons boards. I have a 4'10 and it's like skateboarding on water
@@bloblablah7409 I hear that they are a blast. This one is 5’4” which is way small for me so hopefully I can make a bigger one in the future.

Well done! What kind of UV lamp do you use? I like to use the UV resins for repairs, but it's a pain to make the garage into a darkroom!
Dude my garage is far from a dark room I just mix a pinch of uv powder in my resin whenever I need it. I don’t buy premix uv resin for that reason. The lights are just UV-C lights from Amazon.

Good question- I wanted to use as much of the original rocker (not much) as I could. It was almost all in the nose.
Bro ur jacked, how can you use so easilly the hitachi with one hand, im mind blown hahaha
Very nice. Thank you for learning from you،👍👍👍🤙🤙🤙🏄
hey what is that you used to fill the holes in the foam??? like ready to use micro balloons mixed with resin?
Nope, drywall spackling
So I know nothing about board building. But I'm wondering why he can't use household spray can insulation you find at home depot to fix the cracks in the foam??? Is it because it doesn't "weld" the foam together?
Could have surfed sick if you didnt lose the fin on the paddle out such a shame lol still super good video and great surfing for only having 3 fins on a quad lol
how long does the whole process take?
Double 4inch brush technique….. a 1st for me
Golden declious. Looks good enough to eat...if you like biscuits and foam
I like the voice overs. Cause I am dumb and I need someone cleverer then me explaining things.
What do you use the styrene monomer for? Is that to thin the gloss coat?
Yep exactly. It helps the resin "flow" nicely, and lay very flat.
why do you don't put the futures box before the glass ?
I forgot! 😆
Yhhhhh bro yeeeeeeew
So epic
The blue light on min 17:04, can it turn the firewires white again?
No, I wish!
So awesome!! congratssss...
Ps: your lens (camera) has fungus inside
It’s my buddies camera and it drives him crazy! I don’t ever even notice…
