I thought that Carl sounded really freaked out in the first book, but that as time went by, he slowly started to accept what was going on, which is echoed in the change in voice.
I plowed through listening through the first 5 books in a couple weeks. Just started the 6th. I get literally nothing done lately except enjoying this series. Thanks Jeff and Matt. This has made my year!
So many people recommended listening to Jeff's narration of this series that I am currently about 85% finished with the audiobook of Dungeon Crawler Carl, which is the first audiobook I've listened to since I used to get them on cassette to listen in the car on road trips. I'm looking forward to the rest!
I'm obsessed. I've listened to DCC over a dozen times. Every new book, I do a full relisten as well. Jeff ruined other audiobook readers for me. He doesn't just read, he embodies the books. Bucket list event - Jeff and Matt as co-dungeon masters for a D&D campaign. If DCC ever gets a live-action project, we need Jeff to remain as the A.I. and Donut. Kinda rooting for Jensen Ackles as Carl...
I actually listened to Life Reset before i ever picked up Dungeon crawler Carl. Highly recommend. Jeff is one of my favorite voice actors of all time. Was great to have Travis Baldree who is another one of my favorites do a spot on the latest book.
My first experience with Jeff was on the Dungeon Lord Series, by Hugo Huesca. It was also my first time with the LitRpg book format. He and Annie Elliecot gave me an experience on Audible that I'd never known before. Long before the awesomeness that is Carl, he really introduced me to phenomenal audiobook performances, with music, multiple characters and such.
What a great interview. Thanks for this. Ive read all the books and im so hooked. Matt Dinnaman and Jeff Hays, to me, have brought these characters out in this story that is so ridiculous but so riveting and also... I was gonna say subtly moving but theres nothing subtle about it. There are points in the books where the emotions of the characters are flat out enough to get me choked up. Great job all. You do something that helps people escape and makes our lives a little easier, so kudos ❤
I have never "fan-boyed" as much for a series as I have DCC. I've listened to the first six audiobooks at least three times, same with Season One of the immersion tunnel. Eagerly awaiting Season Two and Book Seven! Also, as an indie author, I feel Jeff's pain when it comes to dealing with the publishing industry, especially Amazon. They take a larger chunk of our royalties than they let on, yet we're mostly powerless because they are the juggernaut in the room. I'm fortunate to have had multiple best-sellers in my genre, but it gets harder every year. As much as I would love to work with Jeff and SBT, my books are all historical fiction (Ancient Rome and British Empire eras), so probably not a good fit for his company, which seems to focus all on fantasy and LitRPG.
Sometimes the extreme stuff is the draw. So far the only thing I have purchased from SBT is Kajiu: Battlefield Surgeon. That book is not ........... "right in the middle of the main stream" ...

just started listening to book 3 last week. this has become one of my top 5 audiobook series
Jeff Hanes would be an amazing voice actor in the video game industry, animation industry, and film/television industry as well.
So funny to hear his normal speaking voice! What a phenomenal job he is doing with these books 👍🏼
