Never has there been a more true statement. As a question after you figure it out and remit you pence to the crown how long does it take to get the license??? I just did it today by the way.
Who says the government doesn't have dedicated or skilled employees.....this laughable excuse for a website proves they are dedicated and skilled to making things difficult, screwing things up and they have a GREAT sense of humor if they think this website can actually be of USE to anyone ! they're more than sad hams, they're sad-istic, too....your tax dollars (not) at work !
I shot coffee out my nose when you were performing the dramatic recitations from the manual. That punishment stuff on page 24 sounds very painful. Keep the great radio videos coming!
Thanks for making that page. I never would of found all that, I actually gave up the other day and was just gonna not have a gmrs license.. but use gmrs.. now I'll get the license.. thanks
I used your discount last night to get the Pro version. It's a 5 week backorder but that will give me time to read the instructions. Thanks for the discount, info and entertaining sarcasm!I😁👍
Hey, Randy, another great video as always, so glad you reviewed this one. I was one of those hundreds of people that asked about a review for this radio about a month and a half ago. Thanks again for the great advice on the radios.
I got my license and I just don’t like the number I got, it’s the dreaded 3 digits! I’m waiting for the fee to go down and have my license canceled or something and apply for a new one.
Welp, I just ordered the Lite! Thanks for the great video and hope to continue to see more videos! I got the Lite version ‘cause I need those HAMs to know I’m serious.
I just bought a Browning antenna Mod. BR- 182 it’s a dual band for GMRS and MURS. VHF 2.4 d gain and UHF 5.5 dB gain with mag mount ! This thing has real good range !,! I’m so HAPPY 😁 IM NOT A HAM 🤭
When I found out that the Pro Version doesn't have the Roger Beep I finally understood what it meant when people say "you've ruined my life". I've filed a lawsuit to halt production of the beepless pro version. There, that'll teach ya!
I would like to have one of those . I have all my money and time tied up into BTECH v1 radios now . I’m also a prepper 😁. So I’m going to work with the BTech v1 GMRS. It does what the Prepper group and I need them to do . I will end up with a Wouxun pro at some point it will be my personal radio
A few years back my wife bought 3 pair of Baofeng radios because preppier. A friend was over when ups dropped them off. He said they are ham radios and I should get my license because it is really really fun. So I did, and dialed up Keller peak and discovered ham people talk about ham radios on their ham radio. Either that or medical ailments, freeway traffic, or complaints about the weather. I threw them all in a box and forgot about them. I no longer live in so cal, but I did dig them out for exodus vehicle to vehicle traffic and for that they were cool. Haven’t dialed repeaters in my new state yet, but I will eventually. Maybe GMRS would be better for me.
That makes two (or a couple hundred) of us. ;) The good news on the PRO version... I have tracking numbers... they are on their way to me now. If the tariff gods are nice, I'll be ready to start shipping them in under 2 weeks now.
Pete, a lot of the senseless comments are from fake accounts. Next time you see some mindless comment check out how long the account has been active, typically only for a month or less. My guess is that it's being done by bots, but I have not figured out how they gain from it. You will see the same issues over on Twitter. @NotaRubicon Productions
I feel for the guy that has to decipher the manual and try to wright a new one. that Is one big battery, but in a SHTF situation you may not be able to charge the battery for a few days. great video. now I may have to buy another radio. I got the kg-905g hooked it to a mobile antenna and hit the repeater 30 miles away, I plan to set up a base antenna tomorrow. will be using HT's for base and mobile to do some range testing, testing, here in the hills of Blanchard Oklahoma, you could wright a book how to get a GMRS License for dummies' Take care
I love it - in your anti-intro, you have described many of the things that really irritate me about the typical YT channels (including the obnoxious "sippy-cup" syndrome). Good on ya! Now on to the matter at hand. Thanks
I have noticed that the Chinese radios are dominating the GMRS and the Amateure radio markets. First, it was Amateure now GMRS funny. None of the big four want anything to do with it. This is a nice-looking radio. I own a few Chinese radios they work well.
Not when you consider the thousands of dollars that go into developing and getting a GMRS radio FCC approved. Also, the 9D & 9P have been around for years - they were $189 when they launched and some dealers still sell them for that ridiculous price. New radios are often priced a bit higher at launch, in order to recoup some of these costs. As well, there's a 25% tariff on every radio right now, which comes out of the dealer's pocket, and so some of that gets passed on to the customer. :)
Love your radio vids, hope you keep the formula. Several comments: First, the roger beep annoys [us] Hams to no end. And GMRS users as well, so there. Makes it a great reason to use it. Also, when my wife is on the radio the roger beep has a different meaning. For her it means "I'm about to interrupt your transmission with another transmission right after this one." Secondly, the IP55 rating is rather so-so. Your previously reviewed Wouxan KG905G is rated at IP66, which is definitively better - but definitely not water "proof" - few things are. After watching this vid, and although I'm a real-deal prepper, I'm even happier with my family's Wouxan KG905Gs, especially given the price, even though I do have some minor complaints with it. Lastly, the next comment was included, again, for two reasons: First, to increase the overall length, forcing you - and your audience - to click the "show more" button proving my powers to influence human behavior. Secondly to lull you into a dreamy state where you may be hypnotized: You are getting sleepy. Sleeeeepy.... Hear me well: you will never add a BS intro to your channel. You will never add a BS intro to your channel...... When I snap my fingers, you will wake up and this will all be over and you'll feel relaxed, happy, and think it was the lingering effects of the coffee you're always slurping away at. (We know there's bourbon in there, btw.) Snap!
You'll be happy to know that I'm working on a new line of IP67 Superhet GMRS radios as well. They are a while off, but are in progress. My view on the IP rating is that if it isn't submersible, it isn't submersible, so IP55/66 aren't much different - They're both fine for use in the rain and some splashes, etc. BTW, the PRO version will have no Roger Beep (sorry) - better get a LITE version while they last. ;)
I heard him say that, but I don't know why its so funny. Roger beep is critical feature required by the FCC! ;) It MUST be enabled or you could face fines in excess of C¥65,000, or 10 years in a forced labor factory.
I think I may have offended Not A Rubicon with my graphic language regarding what happens to people in prison, who use a Baofeng UV5R on GMRS frequencies. I apologize for that. I just didn't want anyone to get their ( * ) stretched in a most unpleasant manner by an amorous cellie. A reliable source told me that the FCC pays bounties to brutes in prison if they stretch the ( * ) of a GMRS operator who was caught using a UV5R in GMRS frequencies. That said and out of the way, this looks like a good radio, especially for those of us with ham and GMRS licenses. I plan to purchase one soon so that I won't have to worry about having my ( * ) stretched in a most unpleasant manner in Federal prison. 73!
I just came across this video in 2022. I wasn’t aware of the radio giveaway. I feel like I should be given one of those radios for my inconvenience and frustration……😂
Hey, get in line, buddy. I was trying to mooch radios off of Randy since way back when you were watching only funny kitten and adorable puppy videos. 🤣
I love the simplicity of my Midland GXT1000 but it isn't repeater capable. Bought a Radioddity and a B-tech (after watching your videos) that are repeater capable, but WAY too many buttons for features I'll rarely or never use, and I keep pressing these buttons accidentally. Do you have any recommendations for a repeater capable gmrs hand-held for someone who doesn't like so many buttons? My Midland Mxt400 is great, if only it was a hand-held... Thanks for your videos.
The UV9G has multiple keypad locking options, so you can lock just the keys, or the keys and the channel knob, or the keys and the PTT, or everything. No more accidental button presses. Great for locking the radio down for less-experienced users or when you're on a specific/critical task where you don't want anything to budge. :)
Thanks for the fantastic videos! So my question is regarding the SHTF preprogrammed channels. Would most of those "government" channels be un-listenable anyway due to the fact that they are probably used with an encoded "digital trunk" system?
Some of them undoubtedly would be digital, but many may still be analog, or even used by other preppers (with other unlocked radios) just because they are popular on "prepper/SHTF" frequency lists, which means they may be useful for intel. The majority of the pre-programmed Rx channels are other known services though, like MURS, MMS, AIR, MARS, CAP, LMR, Ham, Racing, etc., most of which will be usable and valid.
So how does it compare to the BTECH GMRS-V1? And have you heard when the fee for the license will drop? As a disabled Vet and Senior my money is tight. I stumbled on you, while caressing my **** Radio one evening. You are easy to understand. And often humorous. Although my 4-Wheelin has slowed way down, I do own a cute Explorer Sport, with CB & **** Radio installed. Thank you.
If I may... the BTECH is a direct-conversion dual-watch receiver = one receiver with less sensitivity (read lower quality receive and sound quality). It also has way fewer channels, fewer features, a smaller battery, low power output of 2W (I think they got popped by the FCC and had to lower it from the initial 5W, which probably never passed the excruciating SAR testing that we had to go through for the 9G), a marginal stock antenna, inferior build, no scan groups, only dual-band reception... Check this same channel for a nice comparison of the current crop of GMRS radios, including the V1. Randy, I mean Sydney, points out the main differences between all of the radios.
Just put the PRO SHTF radio on backorder. Just like a Form 4 (for those of you in the know.....), now we wait? And Thanx for the coupon “tinkerbell fluffy sleeves”,😂😂😂
Funny as usual, but I'll confess: I'm triggered by roger beeps. I won't lie. Makes that vein in my neck twitch. Same reason I don't like speak-and-spell repeater controllers or cutsey courtesy tones. Just for that, I hope every commercial two-way radio user on your trail rides turns on MDC-1200 signaling PRE and POST keydown. Gimme 35 WPM Morse identifiers at 1 KHz deviation if you must. (shakes fist at cloud).
I enjoy your video’s and wanted to ask if they have an current wouxun that succeeds the pro and can still monitor am air? Or should i wait because you may know of a model that may be hitting the shelves soon? Thanks and thanks for your videos..
1) hit LIKE because of your talking about the TEST being navigating the FCC website 2) I'm stupid enough that 2a) I didn't see/know of your video on the FCC license 2b) I had to call the FCC because I couldn't log in after setting up my a/c -> I failed the test :-( Question - The Radioddity 15 W mobile unit you reviewed - in "worst case" or "average" use, do you get much of a distance difference compared to this 5W unit? A different way to ask: if there's not much of a difference, then why get a mobile when a HT does the same (with a rooftop antenna on the car). THANKS
I dont like being told what to do. So I subscribed. It's so aggravating, I tapped the notification bell. We'll see what happens to the thumbs up button at the end of this video.
Its easier using the software (Windows only and you will need the cable) but you can also add the tones on the keypad easily - I was able to add the tones for my favorite repeaters via the keypad in just a minute or two..
@@TheNotaRubicon If you buy the RT Systems software you can program it with a Mac. However you must decide at the initial software installation whether to use PC or Mac. Once you select one you can't switch to the other. You can use your software choice multiple times but not change OS - ever. You must choose ... but choose wisely.
@@billknn Mac users can also run the Win RT Systems software inside Parallels, which is actually how I program most of my SHTF radios. So, if you do have Para, you can just get the Win software and always be able to run it on some nasty old Win 7 virtual enviro on the Mac. ;)
I know what you mean about the FCC web site. I was able after a trying hour to buy and pay for the GMRS license but I’m not sure what I finally printed out is the license and I really don’t care. lol
I bought the uv9g-pro preprogrammed from BetterSafeRadio, and I got the red programming cable. My problem is Wouxun does not show a program download for this radio? they show other uv9- model but not one listed similarly on BSF's program kit. I was hoping for some sort of a simple how to back-up the 800+ channels they put in my radio? HOW or WHERE do I find out how to backup my channels? thanks
I do ship to Canada, but I don't think the radio is legal up there, since I believe your GMRS is limited to 2W. Perhaps you can get away with using the LITE version just on the lower 7 chs., but the main GMRS channels could be trouble for you. UPDATE: I've discovered that it's not legal to ship to Canada because it's not IC approved, and also because it well exceeds the Canadian GMRS regulations. :(
Hi, Can you recommend a couple of simple to use (user-friendly) higher wattage GMRS handhelds you would recommend both budget and higher end? Thanks Sir
dumb question: I have been told that if a radio does not have an FCC id number visible on the back it is not usable for GMRS. Also if it has a keypad that is another way to know. there were specifics about the Way the FCC id needed to be on the device. I have not found a radio that has it that way. HAS this changed or did i misunderstand it. IS the FCC id and the security code the same thing?
Yes, all FCC Certified radios must display the FCC ID on the outside (usually the back) or inside the battery compartment (which is really the back of the radio when there's no battery attached). There's no restriction on having a keypad on a GMRS radio, provided you can't do direct entry to non-GMRS frequencies and actually Tx on them. I think many misinterpreted direct-entry for Part 90 radios and applied that to GMRS radios and things got confusing. You can actually have a keypad on a Part 90 radio also, provided that it is shipped with the VFO locked. However, if you market and sell that Part 90 radio as an amateur radio, then the keypad can be unlocked, provided the radio can only Tx on the ham bands. It's as if they deliberately try and make things difficult for dealers and users to figure out what the heck is actually legal. :) No, the security code seen on Wouxun radios (and some others) is different than the FCC ID, and is meant to combat counterfeit radios... go figure. ;)
Absolutely love your channel, keep it up! Question.. You say the worst case is about 1 mile, (I'm assuming transmit power and the ability for someone else to hear you) and that makes sense. How do you reach a repeater 30 miles away with this? Wouldn't the distance you can broadcast from this HT to another HT be the same as a repeater? I get that the repeater will have a better transmitter, antenna and power, but that doesn't make the HT perform any better? I'm really fascinated by GMRS and repeaters so I really want to understand this!
No.. In my "worst case" testing, I am transmitting from this radio to another small handheld with a 4-inch antenna, with small hills, trees, and 5 dozen houses between the radios.. When connecting to the repeaters which have giant, perfectly tuned antennas and are on top of a mountain, it is direct line of site with nothing in between.
I was going to make a sarcastic comment 🙃 but then my dog told me to grow up. Side note I dont think those were regular gumies. Oops 😂🤣 Thanks for the great video
The product page has all your answers, but briefly, the 9G is dual-band, 999 channels, dual-receive and even dual scanning with 10 scan groups, a full keypad with pretty much all the features you would expect (direct-entry, VFO, see the frequency and name at the same time, etc.), dual-PTT, a flashlight, individual and group calling (ANI-ID), DTMF tones, a larger battery and better charger, auto and USB charging (with the desk charger), AM AIR Band Rx, 7-band Rx including NOAA WX, and is SHTF pre-programmed. There's more also. :) Better depends on how you intend to use it. The 905G does hive slightly better dust & water resistance, but still isn't submersible, so I don't think it's a deal-breaker. The 905G is also cheaper, but it's half the radio, if you indeed need/want all the extra features.
I have the 905G and it's a very nice and professional looking radio but it's strictly GMRS, nothing else. You'd be better off to pre-order the KG-UV9G if you want tons of cool features that the 905G doesn't have.
@@radiohobbyist13 not cool dude...I have the 905g on order and you're making me wish either A) I cancel my 905g order, or B) buy this one as well, really not cool, lol

The GMRS test is navigating the FCC website to pay the fee.

Lol... As a ham I'm taking this very seriously! 😂
My favorite part of the awesome sarcasm towards hammers. Now I have to go and turn on my roger beeps on all my radios. Lol
Me too brother that was hilarious beep beep
73!
I was only offended because you didn't include enough graphic details about the actual ( * ) stretching part!
Hey, while you're in prison, your buddies can monitor channels 545-547 (Federal Prisons 1-3). ;)
thank you for the gear review & looks like you got a bit of windburn there bud..Have you been hanging out at the Imperial Sand Dunes, by Yuma, Az?
Waiting on my pro version to ship.. Looks like a nice radio.
I got myself in line and pre-ordered mine. Now just to wait LOL
I have that SAME mickey mouse coffee mug, HA HA! It's probably 20 years old, heck 25-30 years even???
You know any good reviews on the midland mxt400? I’d like to compare it to the btech 50watt.
Wouxon 805 or 905g are great gmrs reapeater capable!
I got my license! Your links helped👍👍😎🇺🇸
Will the apocalypse be over by the time 877 channels are scanned?
Hey, you can always split them into two banks and scan them simultaneously. That''ll be 1/2 an apocalypse for you, pal! ;) ;)
Love your videos. I might want to pick this radio up. So thank you for making me spend more money. Lol
Spend it you only live once
Love this dude. Yes I said dude.
1) hit LIKE because of your talking about the TEST being navigating the FCC website
2) I'm stupid enough that
2a) I didn't see/know of your video on the FCC license
2b) I had to call the FCC because I couldn't log in after setting up my a/c -> I failed the test :-(
Question - The Radioddity 15 W mobile unit you reviewed - in "worst case" or "average" use, do you get much of a distance difference compared to this 5W unit?
A different way to ask: if there's not much of a difference, then why get a mobile when a HT does the same (with a rooftop antenna on the car).
THANKS
Another “stupid not-unboxing” video. It’s a good one. Thx.
This was great! Just what I was looking for. Good stuff! As Richie from Boston says, “Like, share, subscribe...or don’t!” lol.
I dont like being told what to do. So I subscribed. It's so aggravating, I tapped the notification bell. We'll see what happens to the thumbs up button at the end of this video.
What is your opinion about a baofeng BF A 58 S. My opinion it picks up more channels farther away than the baofeng uv-5r
I just ordered one!
Just pre-ordered, thanks for the coupon, question...can I program GMRS with tones DCS/CTCSS? Probably need a cable?.... thanks for the videos
Its easier using the software (Windows only and you will need the cable) but you can also add the tones on the keypad easily - I was able to add the tones for my favorite repeaters via the keypad in just a minute or two..
@@TheNotaRubicon great, thanks and I saw the cable for purchase, about $15
You can also program with split CTCSS/DCS via the keypad, if you want to be fancy like the hams. ;)
I was able after a trying hour to buy and pay for the GMRS license but I’m not sure what I finally printed out is the license and I really don’t care. lol
Hi randy from uk great informative funny vid as usual,Why a roger beep? Should be a Randy beep,73s M6PCV
HOW or WHERE do I find out how to backup my channels?
thanks
Another superb review.... Thank you!!
I love your videos and sarcasm 😂😂 have you by chance done a review on the icom id-52 ?
I love your Reviews
Haha your roger beep comment was hilarious :)
Sidney? Cool. Nice to meet you.
Is there a newer or upgraded version of the wouxun kg-uv9g pro radio out now? (November 2022)
Is the coffee slerp a tribute to louder with crowder, or you just being obnoxious. Either way love your videos.
will have to see if i can get 1 up here in canada
I do ship to Canada, but I don't think the radio is legal up there, since I believe your GMRS is limited to 2W. Perhaps you can get away with using the LITE version just on the lower 7 chs., but the main GMRS channels could be trouble for you. UPDATE: I've discovered that it's not legal to ship to Canada because it's not IC approved, and also because it well exceeds the Canadian GMRS regulations. :(
Hi, Can you recommend a couple of simple to use (user-friendly) higher wattage GMRS handhelds you would recommend both budget and higher end? Thanks Sir
He's right about that FCC website. It's so bad that only our government could be responsible for making something so terrible.
dumb question: I have been told that if a radio does not have an FCC id number visible on the back it is not usable for GMRS.
:) No, the security code seen on Wouxun radios (and some others) is different than the FCC ID, and is meant to combat counterfeit radios... go figure. ;)
Just got mine today...
great videos, love the sarcasm.
When is the KG-UV 9G PRO X coming out? Im waiting to see if its better than the Pro. Hopefully IP 67.
stumbled across your channel, you had me at "unboxing"
Oops 😂🤣
Thanks for the great video
What's the difference between the uv9g and the kg905g? Which is better? I have the 905g on back order.
Which one would be a better choice between this one or the KG-905G? Just got my GMRS license, thank you for all the great videos.
@@theblindsharpshooter I mean, you gotta have an extra radio to give to the wife/kid/friend - the 905G would be great for that. ;)
I came to the conclusion that being able to navigate the FCC website was the test.
HELP!!!
805g, 905g, uv9g, WHICH do we need/should get?!?!?! Thanx!
How do you intend to use your GMRS radio?
@@bettersaferadio I’ve already decided to buy the uv9g from y’all. I’ll get the 905Gs later. Thanx!
@@bubbascoutdog Wise choice! ;)
Cool water stuff was going ask you.
Could all of these preloaded channels be stored and used by the kg935g? Wanting a more capable radio but want compatibility with my 905g.
