Here it is, folks, this video was a BEAST. Futurama is one of my absolute favorite TV series of all time. And while I definitely don’t think the entire run was perfect, it’s hard for me to overstate how much I love the series as a whole. About a year ago I did every BoJack Horseman episode ranked and I teased that I’d do it for Futurama. I may have taken my sweet time, but I’m finally here to rank every single episode of Futurama.
HUGE thanks to my guests @ToonrificTariq, @HatsOffMedias and @offbeatkiki

Here's why i love The Sting. It's the only episode that really centers on how Leela feels about Fry instead of the other way around
You are correct, havent seen this said yet
It goes to show more clearly than most episodes, that besides Amy who is probably Leela's best friend, the only person that Leela intrinsically trusts is her goofball Fry. This comes back into play during Into the Wild Green Yonder, where she just KNOWS despite his ridiculousness, that she thrusts him beyond words more than anyone else in her life. With her adoption and bad exes baggage, that trust is a really key part of their dynamic.

The luck of the fryrish pulls at the heartstrings the most for me. That message of you don’t know what you have till it’s gone, regret, love, the heartfelt touch of naming his son fry to carry on his spirit. Not to mention futurama wouldn’t be the same without that fry getting to Mars for humanity. And to bring it full circle we might see a day in our world when there’s the first human footprint on Mars. Incredible episode and series
For sure
I always cry when I watch that episode
Yes, that episode made me realise just how awesome this show was.
Agreed. For me, Luck of the Fryrish and the ending of Meanwhile pulls my heartstrings the most
yea same for me man
I'm biased because "Game of Tones" aired shortly after my dad died, but that's definitely a favorite, even though I can rarely handle re-visiting it. Even that said, "The Late Phillip J Fry" still might be the biggest emotional gut punch of the series to me.
That should've been wayyyy higher and luck of the fryrish should've been 1 imo
The other thing that some people miss is that Yancy was supposed to to his son Yancy. The beginning of the episode Yancy is saying he doesn't like his own name. But as shown by Yancy having a jersey with the letter "Y", it is implied that he learned to like his own name. So when he does name his oldest son Phillip, rather than Yancy - it is not only a tribute to his lost brother, but also ending a long line of a generational line of the name Yancy. That is how much he loved his brother.
"Now bundle up, I don't want you getting frozen" gets me every time. So subtle and poignant
Omfg never put that one together before!
I don't quite get it, can you explain?
Thanks so much for the shoutout Johnny! Can't wait to have you on my channel soon to discuss the life of Leela! 😀

A point that no one talks about in game of tones is that when fry is in his mothers dream he could’ve told her where he was told her to get him out and I think the pause before he hugs her is him deciding whether or not to tell her and he chose to live in the future and I know there were episodes that highlighted that but I think it’s important to mention
When I was younger, like, literal child, The Sting really spooked me. The dream sequences really freaked me out the more and more surreal they got and it made me feel so tense and uneasy with how everyone around Leela put her down for believing Fry was still alive and it was uncomfortable how it seemed like she was right only for the evidence she had to be false or somehow misplaced, but whenever it came on I’d watch it anyway.
So I think the nostalgic impact as well as the episode itself definitely makes it one of my favourites and I was anticipating hearing it be discussed. Only took 2 hours.
Used to freak me out too.

Luck of the Fryrish is one of the only television episodes to make me cry for over an hour, I cry just from seeing clips on it. As an older brother who hasnt seen his younger brother in almost 15 years now it just hurts.
I think Futurama handles serialization the best: most episodes are self contained, but they arent afraid to have continuing storylines every so often.
I feel like Disenchantment actually suffers from full serialization since nothing ever feels accomplished and you cant just jump in to any episode, and I had no idea what was happening when new seasons came out because I just forgot the details over time.
I agree. I love the Simpson's and Futurama, but a lot of the time with Disenchantment it feels like jokes are pushed aside to make way for more story elements. Which is fine, but the story is just a parody of fantasy tropes so it becomes pretty predictable.
"the ultimate and final series finale..."
Lasted less than a week.
Honestly I enjoy Saturday Morning Fun Pit a lot if only for the ending third of the episode. I’m someone who enjoyed the English dub of Sonic X, which is infamous for having hilarious censoring, so seeing Richard Nixon try and edit the TV show live was really funny to me.
Nixon is one of my favorite characters on this show from just how cartoonish he is.
I’m glad the show was dead during the Trump years because I feel like some of that would’ve seeped into the show and kinda ruined the joke.
I also love Naturama just because I love nature in general.
The Scooby Doo joke where they go in the door and it just shows the hallway for 20 seconds is one of the funniest the show ever had. That whole bit, and the GIJOE bit were both amazing - too bad the SSC bit only had "Bort".
Hey, Johnny. If you're looking for the original version of the song "Rocket Ship" from the opening of Bender's Game, it's by my favorite band "The Dead Milkmen". Original track is from the album Bucky Fellini. Def didn't expect a cover of a somewhat obscure surf-punk song from late 80s to make it into a Futurama movie
My favorite song inclusion was "Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds in The Luck of the Fryrish. That's just a great song from my teen years and a perfect inclusion in that great episode!
9 days later another revival series was announced for 2023. And im convinced that this video willed it into existence.
They totally saw you drop this video and announced new episodes just to spite you
Even the F tier episodes I can't call bad they are just not up the quality of the rest of the show which just shows how good Futurama really was.

51:00 While the explanation _in the episode_ of how the FTL travel works is definitely nonsensical, the idea of an FTL drive "moving the Universe around the ship" actually isn't nonsense, and resembles a substantiated sci-fi premise. The Alcubierre drive is a hypothetical concept for a faster-than-light warp drive based on general relativity. It proposes warping spacetime around the ship, contracting the region in front of the ship and expanding the region behind it, which is, in a sense, moving the Universe around you instead of you moving through the Universe. In theory, this is one possible way to move faster-than-light without violating the laws of physics, because no one object is moving through space faster than light, and instead space is expanding, kind of like how galaxies outside the cosmic horizon defining the observable Universe are moving away from us at a rate faster than light, but only because the space between them and us is expanding. It's very interesting; I would recommend taking a moment to look it up if you have not already heard of it.
Also if any physicists or physics enthusiasts read this, I apologize in advance for any gross oversimplifications or inaccuracies I've introduced lol. My field is ecology, lol.
I was actually coming here to comment something similar, glad someone pointed that out. Recently "warp drive" possibilities has been gaining more attention.
My favourite FTL is Future Echoes, which as a second episode show shown ambitious Red Dwarf was.
I think the actual concept of an alcubierre drive doesn't really move "the universe" around the ship. I think it's more a local phenomena? But I'm not really sure, not the kind of theory I really claim to understand. :D
@@Kuhmuhnistische_Partei that's true, I do also interpret as a local manipulation of space-time. But since the universe is made up of this fabric of space-time, I guess technically, the local manipulation does equate to moving the universe to some degree
That warp drive concept I believe is mathematically possible, it just requires ridiculous amounts of energy, or an exotic form of matter we can't fully re-create with our current understanding of science.
For me, that final scene of the Devil´s Hands Are Idle Playthings is the original ending of the series. I am not saying that the revivals are not cannon or something like that. I am just saying that for that pristine era of Futurama that we all learned to love... everything ends right there. It matches and closes everything so damn well. I really LOVE that it is not a big and super happy ending, with Fry and Leela getting married or a jump in the future when they have children. It is as simple as showing Leela being the only one who stood with Fry until the very end, asking to tell him how things will end. And Fry, doing the real best he can, shows such a naive and beautiful scene, of them staying together, holding hands and fading to the horizon. For me this is more powerful than any unrealistically ideal finale, because it shows us the two strongest things that tie people together: Love, and hope. It is just... so beautiful.
The honking in D tier? Damn that's probably my favourite episode.
I'm sorry!! Glad you love it tho :)

One cool thing about Simpsonrama is how much it's referenced throughout the Simpsons. You can see Bender's body lots of times afterwards. Like in one episode where the basement gets flooded.

SO much work put into this! Thank you for keeping me company while doing the housework, and for sincerely making me want to watch Futurama again
What I love ab the reveal of fry’s nephew being named Philip, isn’t just that he was named after him. It’s also that his grandparents/dad talked enough about fry for Philip to not only pursue the same dream, but to attribute that inspiration to an uncle he never met. He put that his own headstone, when that space probably could have been used to name his other titles/accomplishments.
Idk, just the amount of love in that gesture always gets me
The best part about this ranking list is that while I might tweak my own placements, I can't really disagree with any of this. Futurama really has solidified it's place in media.
Thanks for showing the love for “300 Big Boys”, it was the first episode of the show I watched and I loved it so much.
Great video, Johnny!
I was obsessed with The Sting. I had watched the entire original series several times, or so I thought, because I had *somehow* missed The Sting. So when I finally saw it, the experience of watching it was almost as surreal as the story itself. I wasn't ready for "new" Futurama, and it being easily one of the top 5 episodes of all time blew my mind.
I grew up Watching Futurama and My parents just calling it "Bender" and the whole family just knowing what it meant, Its one of those shows the whole family can watch and laugh over
The twist that Leela and Fry are actually in a zoo is literally from Twilight Zone (People are alike all over).
My personal favourite is Parasites Lost as it balances two of my favourite aspects of the show so well; an amazing all be it recycled science fiction story and most importantly, Fry and Leela’s romance.
A close contender for me is The Luck of the Fryish as the ending hits really hard for me. I used the song “Don’t You Forget About Me” at my dads wake to show and celebrate his life.
I'm trans. I don't mind Bender interpretation of trans people made strictly for comedic purpose. I certainly don't have a need to see trans representation in every movie, tv series or cartoon.

But I don't think it's unreasonable to find it tasteless.
The fact I laughed my arse off at some of the clips in this video alone, and after watching the show a dozen times, really speaks to the sheer comedic genius of this show. I can't pick a favourite episode, Luck of the Fryrish, How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back, Anthology of Interest 1 and 2, and many others I'm missing. The fact that the "pretty good" episodes took up 40 minutes of this video's 2-hour run shows how much effort the writers put into even the deep cuts (if you can call them that, because I think many Futurama fans can recognise a good chunk of the episodes).

It was always one of my favorites too, as somebody who really is a big fan of nature!
I fell asleep to an audiobook and woke up to this. It definitely gave me some wild dreams. Lol
I absoluely agree that The Sting is the greatest Futurama episode (though The Luck of the Fryrish and Godfellas are extremely close); on my most recent viewing, I noticed how each time Leela wakes up, it's more intense and trippy than the previous time she woke up. I especially love how there's a huge amount of callbacks to previous episode (hell, the very concept of getting space honey calls back to a gag from the very first episode, with the previous career chips being in an envelope labeled "Contents of Space Wasp's Stomach"); it feels like the writers knew their time working on the show was running out and they wanted to have an episode filled to the brim with references to previous episodes. Plus, while the focus is definitely on the dramatic and emotional elements of the story, every joke that does appear not only lands, but lands exceptionally well! It may not be as funny as The Farnsworth Parabox or as emotional as The Luck of the Fryrish, but the episode is just simply a work of true art and it's one of the most well-plotted and executed pieces of media I have seen!
My personal favourite episode is The late Phyllip J. Fry. It may not be the funniest one, but I love so much the moment when they reach the moment, where they realize it's too late and they can just go forward and enjoy the "last moments" of universe. I just love the animation here and even more the soundtrack. I am so glad that we got the revival. Even if that was the only good episode, it would be worth it.
You can tell when a show is great when the episodes in the lower tiers are there really because of personal preference. There was no truly awful episode of the show, some people dislike certain episodes and some love those same episodes. It really shows how great Futurama truly is when there’s something about it everyone can enjoy.
I never really realized this, but the "Jurassic Bark" episode is actually somewhat in reference to the story of Hachikō, a story from japan that is actually true of a dog whom waited for their owner until passing away while waiting. Its a story that chokes me up everytime I hear of it.
