It seems like his flute is simply a toy in his hands, quite admirable.

Without questioning the well deserved place in the ranks of Debussy or Ravel you must agree that Ibert was a most unjustifiably underated french composer! All is music is great when not superb.

Inarrivabile. Dimostrazione di controllo assurdo e di musicalità divina

Pahud plays the flute like he's joyfully insulting someone and knows how to do it

Absolutely wonderful. I still prefer a fuller sound, but he's definitely one of his generations best.

I love this man. I am a flautist and I come from Belfast. James Galway is the local hero but I have always hated the way he sentimentalises and romanticises great works for flute. Pahud is a much better musician.

Eleanor Dent I agree everything sounds beautiful with Galway, but it all sounds very much like Galway. When Pahud plays, he takes a back seat to the composer and the piece. He just translates the composers intent to us without always hamming everything up to show off his playing. I also love that he has recorded the Brahms sonatas originally for clarinet. They are not technically all that difficult, but his playing is so exquisite - he doesn’t always need to play the hardest music for us to hear how amazing he is. I think he’s in a class by himself, as far as interpretation goes.

Galway was an amazing player but, alas, a boring musicians, all the same tone, color and intention. Nothing to compare between the two.
