They are both superb. Had the St. Georgenbräu Helles at the Franconian Beer Festival some years ago. Have loved Augustiner Helles for ages. Wish they would do brewery tours. Been to the Bräustuberl on the corner of the brewery a few times over the years.
I was in Germany this past August and early September drank a LOT of Augustiner at various Braeustube in Munich, as well as Hacker-Pschorr and Spaten. Could't find the St. Geogenbraeu in any of the other cities I visited.
Thanks for the recommendation, i have been looking for a lager that is light, clean, crisp, drinkable. That type of lager feels opposed to what is popular at the moment, lots of very hoppy or fruity beer which I don’t enjoy at all. I’ll try both as they seem far more like what I’m looking for.
Love the Augustiner.Beyond compare on a hot day or for cutting through a chicken balti etc.......i bought a crate full from my local beer merchant.Should have bought 2.None left....😖
I have tasted the Augustiner and it is excellent Its the Porche of beers lol unfortunately we don't get every German beer here in Australia so I haven't had the St GeorgenBräu but it looks and by your review deserves a 10 as well they both have the old school bottle very impressive beers.
I can only get $20 six packs of Augustiner in the States, and it's not the same at all, probably due to the shipping :( I was in Germany the other week and pushed my bag's weight limit to bring some back home!
I like Augustiner Helles a lot. Unfortunately I don't recall ever having drunk a St Georgen Bräu. Watching while having a Rochefort 10 (as so often 😁).
Great video and wonderful debate point. I love both, but for me the St Georgen really did it for me in the summer, sitting in the garden. I would love to visit the St Georgenkeller in Butterheim. Being a trouble marker, have you tried Mahrs Brau Helles yet? This beer would seriously trouble both Augustiner and St Georgen....
@@bandsbikesandboozereviews I'm more into my Czech beers atm and in my personal opinion are alot better than German Pils. I love Helles as a style but not too fond of Pils
Really like Augustiner helles, not heard of Georgen brau, sounds a banger though! By no way in the same league as these two, but have you tried/reviewed any stuff from Benediktiner? They do a half tidy helles, and hefeweizen. Can get it in Adnams shop. Quality reviews by the way 👌
I've just put up my review of Benediktiner today. It's worth hunting down the St Georgenbrau, it's an absolute monster of a beer, as is their kellerbier too.
@@bandsbikesandboozereviews the bier hooligan says its the best helles he's ever had ,will be interesting to see how u think it squares up to these pair now
I'm sure I've tried that one before. Just checked on the files of my reviews and can't see it but the bottle certainly does look familiar. I'll have to try it again!
@@bandsbikesandboozereviews I saw that you've reviewed the Wieninger Impulsator doppelbock - they do a fantastic helles called Teisendorfer Hell but haven't been able to find it in the UK
*Heathen alert* as much as I do enjoy Augustiner (whisper it) ... I find it a touch too citrusy for my taste. Other than the HB Oktoberfest, my favourite is probably Tergensee's Helles. Burn the witch!
Okay I've just had the Georgianbrau helles and I've gotta say I didn't like it as much as the augustinabraeu or tegernssee...I can't even put my finger on it 🙃 but I find it harder to drink than the augustinabraeu/ tegernssee....just goes to show how people can taste different..most everything else u review I have very similar tastes ,apart from most of the UK beers ales ..Timothy Taylor, don't like it ..as far as the helles I find the augustinabraeu /tegernssee easier to drink and more enjoyable taste wise ....sorry lol
Having seen the review the other day I was looking forward to this. Good result in the end!!
Have you tried the Tegernseer Hells? That's my personal favourite

Clash of the Titans sounds like, love my Helles so need to get me mitts on this ST George's, good review mate.
never tried st georgenbräu, but the classic augustiner helles surely is a truly perfect beer, in my opinion.
my favorite review here...i love how torn you are between the two
Great video as always ,always interesting keep up the good work
Thanks mate!
From your review I'd say Augustina on a hot day and the other one on a cool day.

I'd have no hesitation in recommending them both. They're at the top of the tree when it comes to the best lagers in the world.

You should check it out mate, it's a great beer but I suppose if you can get Rochefort 10 very easily then there's no rush LOL!
@@bandsbikesandboozereviews Rochefort 10 is always available at 2.95 Euros a 33 cl bottle. On a hot sunny day, however, I prefer a cold Helles. 🍺

I've tried the Mahrs Weizen Bock whcih I recall as being OK. I'll put the Mahrs Helles on the list as I do see it available from time to time.
St georgen brau helles beeradvocate score is 86 = very good.
Augustiner helles scores 93 = outstanding.
Augustiner Bräu Märzen Bier scores 96 = World 🌎 Class.
Blimey these are old breweries, excellent head to head , 👏 😀
which is the best pils in the world? Krombacher? Urquell? Rothaus?
Pilsner Urquell is a different. Can't compare Czech Pilsner to German Pils.
I think I'd need to check out both country's pils and review them separate as the two styles, although pilsners do differ in taste quite a bit.

Nice, will give the Benediktiner review a look tonight. I do like a decent helles, so will defo give the St Georgenbrau a look. Prost!
with a beer in either hand you look like a kid in a candy shop ;D
Had the Georgenbrau kellerbier last night, also awesome👍🏻
Nice one mate, I've got one waiting in the fridge.
I feel like this was just an excuse to double fist haha. How the hell do I get eithet one of those in US? Without flying to Germany.
I don't think they're comparable, as one is 4.6% ABV and the other one 5.2% ABV.
Great review
Have u tried weihenstephaner helles ?
I certainly have but checking on the channel, I've never reviewed it! I'll have to fix that in the near future.

Thorbräu Helles is very good.
Got both on the way too video 👍🏻
Good choice!
for me augustiner then tegenseer spezial hell
Arcobrau is another fantastic helles, real cream cracker like taste.

They're all good beers mate, I'd suggest checking out the St. GeorgenBrau if you can. There's less of a hop character on it and more maltiness.

Hate to say it but find helles beers bland(bless me father for I have sinned) will give them a second chance now 🍀
I get that, but seriously these are no ordinary Helles beers. They're full of flavour.
