The 490T is not very common but can sound great! Same pickups came in my 2010 SG Standard.
That pickup came with all the SG special models at the time (I know it because I have one and I was really fan of SGs at those years). The Les Paul came with 498T because LP Studios came with that one.
looks cool. the SG specials from that era were great. some had ebony fretboards for a while.
Yay! The red SG Diablo was the second guitar I ever bought, but I've not seen this platinum before. I think it sounds great
Every Rickenbacker comes with a case that nice. Ebony & precious metals rule. So do ultra playable collectibles.

Most Rickenbackers come with a plain plastic hardshell case.

It’s been on there so long removing it might reveal that the adhesive has damaged the pickguard underneath. Better to just leave it and live with it on something this old.

I’ve had my sg for a while but just finally got the right pickups in it and have fallen in love. Was always a LP guy but the sg is so light and comfortable, awesome couch guitar. I’m excited to see the new sg supremes and hopefully moderns
I heard somebody say that the SG was the less costly stepping stone to an LP. I disagree. It's such a fantastic light and resonant guitar. It makes me not want a 10lb beast actually. That's why I am psyched about the modern lites! Even though they don't have all that upper access, they are at least probably very resonant as well. I concoct all kinds of ideas to lighten up my LP special as it has its place in the armory to be sure. Great neck and p90 chime! Anyway, if the budget allows, there is nothing wrong with having more than 1 SG. For now, though, I take advantage of the much maligned quick connect pcb that my standard came with. It allows me to mix it up a little.
What pickup set did you settle on? I don’t even have an SG, just curious.
@TylerJohnstonGuitar I only swapped the 490t bridge for a 498t and then put the 490t right back in. It's really great just the way it is with both being 490's. I will play with some other pups down the road just for kicks and if I find bridge I like that pairs with the 490r, I may just have to have a second SG. I'm not rich, but it is the one thing I love to do!
Really curious about a 500t.. in time.

@@frankwebster9110 Quick connect is awesome. Been thinking about dropping quick connect pots into my single pickup Kramers and going crazy! I’d like to see what all the hype behind Fishman pickups is about.
I'm not a big SG fan, but that one is cool.
That 490 set is perfect for an SG in my opinion. Although I would love to throw some dirty fingers or 500 T in the bridge with that 490r in the neck on one someday

I almost got one of these SGs but I need inlays. Wish it had platinum small blocks, would have been amazing.

Wow that is so clean looking. Not that others are dirty it just looks .....angelic maybe it is Christmas and the color fits Christmas I guess.
Well... they did make a baritone platinum Les Paul but it wasn't part of this series ig, didn't have the matching headstock but otherwise it looks the same

I had one of these but sold it. I loved the fretboard. The finish felt tacky but looked really cool in person, but the deal breaker for me was it was very unstable. I have seen only one other, it was much better than the one I had, but the price was too high.

Those rough routing marks and frayed wood edges are caused by blunt routing tools in the CNC machine.
Said it before, you are doing NO FAVORS by not removing the alien scum backed plastic asap. I thought I was being cool for re-sale flip purposes once - but when I pulled a 180º and removed the plastic on guard and controls on back it was a NIGHTMARE of residue involving lots of isopropyl myristate to remove scum. Your mileage may vary. 👀
Sounds like a problem for the guy that takes it off, not the seller. Personal preference. Selling it in its original state is smarter.
@@TylerJohnstonGuitar Keeping it on ensures you leave swirl marks on the guards after you chemically remove them. Taking them off means NONE. Also, where are the pup plastics? Why take them off? Being cute?? Keeping them on makes no sense and doesn't raise the value one iota - in this case the guitar is dinged as well, that's TWO strikes and to me that's the SELLER's problem and the BUYER's caveat emptor. 🎸

Maybe I’m weird, but I LOVE 490R/T pickup combo!
Not wierd at all. Mine came stock with that combo and I even popped in a 498t to see how much better I could make it sound. I took it out because the 490 r and t are perfect together. You can get that cozy roll off the knobs to 7-8 in the middle position or meaty rhythm runs on the neck and really crank on the 490t by itself. Very versatile set and they belong in an SG! I love them!

I'm starting to think that if I were willing in the future to get an SG of any type, I would likely be extra safe and pair it up with a studded dog collar strap. Apparently, some people think the whole top heaviness thing is a myth, but others have confirmed it.
It's like anything mass produced, many are neck heavy but some aren't. I've got two SG's (a '92 Standard & a '62R) & neither of mine are but then it could be I just got lucky, coz I have played others that were.
I wonder if Gibson ever made a carved or arch top SG?
The SG Diablo has a carved top, but maybe not the kind you have in mind.

Seem the 490/490 combo was (is?) normal for the SGs. Not sure I'm understanding why the LP gets a 498T and not the SG also.
I think it's fairly common as well. I say be thankful that you don't have to take the 489t out of the SG!😅
Maybe Gibson knows something we do not about how well that set works in the SG standards.

This ones always look so "meh, just grey" to me.

Just wanted to say, I miss WYRON episodes
these finishes wore off down to the wood pretty quick.
I noticed the bridge is significantly subdued to that of the 498T. Not to say it sounds bad, it’s just a noticeable difference. I personally prefer the 490R, 498T combo, love it in fact, but, I’m also a big fan of the 57 Classic & 57 Classic Plus AND a MASSIVE fan of the 70’s tribute pickup set. However, there is a gigantic difference between a Les Paul & SG too that, no disrespect to the beginners, is extremely noticeable to someone who has been around it for nearly 40yrs.

People that complain about neck dive seem petty to me. Unless it's stupid unbalanced. Who plays a guitar without their left hand on the neck holding a mere ounce of downward pressure. So many fantastic guitar players absolutely rock with this seemingly terrible problem..

I have read that the neck pick-up pole prices and the bridge pick-up pole prices are a little different. The neck are 52 mm and the bridge are about 54 mm. Could you measure that one day. Thanks. Just for fun

So not looking like sg, so almost no sg left in it. But I like it! Yum... there is surely something special in guitars built using ebony parts. But that amelinium parts - sad look.
these stupid things used to be everywhere in guitar centers! you couldn't give them away! budget cheap guitars with a corny aesthetics. the only redeeming quality was the fretboard
