this is the better way of doing it. I was at emergency and they tried this. had a fifth metacarpal fracture and that was it. 6 days later i took it off to it being green blue and a dark purple. They also told me ice weighed more than water and that children's ibuprofen is stronger than adults advil. teach these people, please..
Thank you for this video as it is very informative!!!! I recently had hard plastic ulnar gutter splint fitted by a physiotherapist in a hospital for a 5th metacarpal fracture and she did NOT use any padding. After 4 days of additional pain to the fracture, knuckles and wrist bone I added padding, but that created additional pressure issues. I left voice mail messages for her, but they have not returned. I have now removed the splint and will be filing a complaint with the hospital.
So, my docter said I should take my splint off during showering and all that, (Same splint, but uses metal pins instead of adhesive to hold the ends) so how do I remove this and put it back on? Do I just follow the technique used here? or what?
Pretty rough on the patient. Need to watch the flatness of the wrap and the splint as it sets. If I were the patient I might have smacked him with my other hand because of the tweaking of my break!! Ouchy.
what ER is this so i know to never go there this guy has a lot to learn about technique. i see wrinkles in his wrapping. I put this on by all day long with no assisant and no help from my patient.

Using hot water can cause burns as the product cures and dries. Never squeeze or make indentations that can cause pressure points.

There is a pre-padded material known as ortho-glass. Extra padding is not recommended with this product. Not sure if that is what was used with you.
Indian...very good knowledge..
I am radiographer
I would recommend handling the plaster material without gloves with any frequency as it is very abrasive to the hands.
I had to assist a Tech with this once at the hospital as part of my EMT "Ride along" (really spent at the ER).
Was really fun.
for someone who needs immobilization, do you have to move the 4th and 5th digit like that?
Must not permit movement of MCP and IP joints
