A minor correction at 11:30. There are not four EMIB connections, there are ten. Three between tiles horizontally and two between tiles vertically. You can see the part where the tile is bonded to the substrate for EMIB as the more rainbow colored parts that perfectly line-up between tiles. While it was correctly stated that the actual EMIB connection is made through the substrate, you can still see the actual areas where the tiles are bonded to the substrate just by looking at the die.
Finally, an answer to Threadripper Pro and non Pro. I currently have a Threadripper 3960X, the W2400 series is potentially an excellent upgrade. AMD neglected this segment for sure.
Yeah because Intel didn't just neglect this segment, they were missing in action. I'm glad they found their own glue they could use. I'm sure AMD will compete in the segment when they've finished taking as much data center market share as they can. Remember AMD doesn't have their own foundries and they are limited to capacity TSMC will allow.
So you mention that the servers xeons have the accelerators. And that the 3400 is 4 dyes on the emib. But you then say the 2400's are not the same? Are they also 4 CPU dyes or how are the different?

Hi there, To clarify from what I said in the video: The Intel Xeon W-3400 processors feature Intel EMIB packaging to connect 4 separate silicon dies together onto the same CPU package, enabling a greater level of scalability (Core Counts) and expansion (Memory, PCIe, etc). The Intel Xeon W-2400 processors do not feature Intel EMIB packaging, but instead is a single monolithic silicon die, enabling a balance of cost and features. Both the Xeon W-3400 and Xeon W-2400 utilize the same CPU architecture (Sapphire Rapids), but they are packaged differently.

I have been waiting for Intel to release new HEDT processors. Among my current computers are two Intel X99 Extreme and an AMD R9-5950X 128GB 3090 system. With the 3D software that I develop and use though, I need up to 4TB of memory to fully support the 3D software. I also need memory over cores, so I am interested to see what the 16 Core 3400 vs 2400 will be priced at in Canada. The 2400 is max 2TB but that will still do. I will also have to initially go with probably 512GB total memory since the 128GB and 256GB DDR5 DIMMs are impossible to find.
Xeon W is more akin to AMD Threadripper than AMD Epyc. (Workstation versus Datacenter) The announcement of Sapphire Rapids *was* when all the datacenter SKUs launched.
These CPUs are interesting, but pricing sucks. AMD is no better in that regard. As it stands, HEDT is still dead and it seems neither company wants to revive it. Understandable but sad. And no 28-core monolithic model as kind of a memento of W-3175X.
Alder Lake is revolutionary for x86. Sapphire Rapids is more of the same that Intel did previously even with EMIB, kinda obsolete. Big-Little tiles would be more area and power efficient.

When you can have true 64bit in each of the true 64 core... Let alone true 256bit...in each of the true 64 core. This came from the newer Itaniums. Then , you have something ..Right now x86/gpu is just 8bit grouped. arm/accorn is a pos. So all you do is x8 the the cores so 56x8 ,and you have the true cores ..so originally one core to get 64bit had 8 cores. 448 cores the the cache in between ,and around each core.. then the Latency - right there no multitasking much less no realt-time u need both. THE ITANIUM had BOTH. So much Heat problems. pfft. AMD is worse. North bridge on top of this all paa thtic .

What is the bus type that W2400 uses, ring or mesh? In the W3400 what kind of latency does the EMIB actually introduce.
The Xeon W-2400 processors also feature a Mesh interconnect between the cores.
