- Experience a real time narrowboat journey on the Anderton Boat Lift. A giant, three-storey-high iron edifice on the banks of the River Weaver Navigation in Cheshire. It is one of the 'Seven Wonders of the Waterways'. The Anderton Boat Lift has earned its nickname of 'Cathedral of the Canals' for a very good reason. Not only does it still do the job it was designed to do of lifting boats and barges 50ft from the River Weaver Navigation to the Trent & Mersey Canal, but it does it with the most ingenious and endearing character of any structure on the canal system.

That brings back memories of when I went on it with my car club. The cars basked in the sunshine whilst we took the tour boat through the boat lift and a short distance along the river. 😊

We did the Cheshire Ring/Four Counties canal in 2019, and really wanted to do this boat lift….. but….. it was closed due to some mechanical issues it was having that month! Shame…
