Hi Paul. I transited through Doha earlier this month, travelling from Melbourne to Zagreb. We boarded from gate D20 at Doha too, the worst part of taking the bus is being outside for the first time in about 15 hrs. I left snow at my place and stepped out to 41* to get our next flight. The Qsuite lived up to the hype and I was pleasantly surprised by the business class of the second leg. The mothballed A350s lining the taxi way highlighted the paint issue, I think I counted near to a dozen. Oh, and that bear is just down right creepy.
Yes, I got an a321 when it was showing a 787 the day before. There were many unhappy business passengers that morning heading to Athens. At least the a330 has a bit more storage and privacy than the a321.
I did this journey the other way in 2009. From Athens to Doha was an A320 which had these enormous arm chair style seats in a 2-2 up the front. Great food and very comfortable, I would have been happy to sit there all the way to Singapore but we had to change at Doha onto one of those A330 2-2-2s as you've shown in the video; and yes it was a bus to and from the plane LOL. The A330 leg was actually pretty unpleasant with slack service and indifferent food - I was very happy to transfer over to Singapore Airlines for the last leg to Australia.
Last time we flew Business with Qatar, we had a seperate bus for business. The economy went down first (yes our gate was on second floor, but we went down the stairs or lift) and went into the second bus, and we stayed in the cool terminal till they were all loaded. I think our plane was the furthest from the gate it could possibly be, either than or the driver just wanted to show us the extend of the airport. We had plenty of room to spread out, but the economy folk were crammed in like sardines, and they had to stay on the bus until we loaded. We had the 1:2:1 config from Adelaide to Doha, and the 2:2:2 config from Doha to Copenhagen. We had slept well on the longer flight, but were a little peeved that we had the older layout, but didn’t need to sleep. Coming home ex Gatwick, we had 1:2:1 both legs.
I flew on 777 with the 2-2-2 configuration DOH/MLE. Really did not love it, at all. The odd thing is when I booked they had a Q-Suite 777 on the route then they changed it for both outbound and inbound flights. Thankfully they switched my inbound back to a Q-Suite 777.
Yes the changes!! I flew Sydney Doha Lahore in January and on the leg to Lahore had newer than this business class with just one seat by the window but not the Q suite. However on way back in March it was Q suite both legs. The cabanas can be a hit and miss, as they are open. I tried to rest but one passenger somewhere was snoring like a freight train and I had to leave after half hour or 40 mins. Unless U are a quick sleeper, it can be useless. Great video Paul, love your commentary and videos.
First time viewer, long time traveler. Great video: Strong visuals, informative voice over and professional read. And you can't go wrong on Qatar, even when you appear to on paper. Thanks for putting in the miles! My wife and I are traveling ORD to SGN via DOH in November on Qatar business class. Tasty appetizer for what we hope will be a memorable adventure. Thank you & safe travels!
I recently flew this business class . When I booked , their Qatar airways website explicitly stated “QSuites”. Three weeks before departure , we received an email saying that because of operational reasons , a different aircraft would be used , one that would not have QSuites . I complained and asked for partial compensation ( voucher ). They refused . To a certain extend I can understand . But what was totally unacceptable was that Qatar airways kept on selling that flights as one with QSuites . That’s , to say the least , dishonest , if not fraudulent . When boarding some passengers who specifically choose to QSuites were pretty furious when they found it was this old product . Apparently they never got the email. The cabin crew explained that it was a last minute aircraft change , which was a blatant lie , as they knew three weeks in advance . Frustrating was also that on my Athens to Doha flight , they had run out rosé champagne before we left the gate ( I am not kidding ) and one of the white wines after one hour . It was a sharp contrast with the final leg , which was QSuites , and was impressive … from service , to seat design and the food was phenomenal. But the whole experience shows that QA is dishonest . Selling seats you know will not be available is not done .
@@beyondonethousand problem is that QSuites is so good . But I think I will stick to my earlier preferred carrier , Emirates . Less surprise and more A380 planes which are awesome
I regularly fly between Zagreb and Nairobi, so although it is a long haul trip, Qatar operates narrow body A320s on both legs, so despite paying for Business Class you do not even get anything like a flat bed or any partition between seats. Service however, cannot be faulted.
You hit the nail on the head, when you mentioned the price does not change regardless which business class product you'll be flying on the day. There are many who claim that the price does in fact change but I have yet to see the difference in fare. If they changed the business class product ( from Qsuite to the product on your video) prior to the flight, does QR compensate ?
Paul, I have just stumbled across your channel and I have to say what an amazing and wholesome experience it is, watching you do what you love and fly the world! My uncle is a pilot so I have always been interested! Love from New Jersey!
Equipment changes galore. My wife and I were switched to an a330 from an a350 on our flight from Doha to Singapore. The bulkhead seats were lousy for sleeping on the night flight.
After seeing you with DownieLive earlier in the week I've been waiting for this video, can't say I was disappointed in this video just can't wait for (hopefully) the next one.
That’s why I don’t fly with QR in their premium classes. Exactly because of their various configurations which means nothing is guaranteed. As a paying traveller, I don’t like sudden swaps.
It's worth to me no matter which configuration. The only exception is the short haul A320 narrow body plants. Flying those for three to 4 hour flights is not worth the extra money you shelled out for business.
Once again a great video Paul, cheers. We were lucky enough to fly Qatar from Oslo to Doha in May and had an equipment swap the night before but it was to a 777 with Qsuites from a 787 mini Q suite. It was superb, on the way back we sampled the 787 which was not as good...but still great!

Notorious D and E gates…hate this part of the terminal…had to board from here too often, including last month! And also got a last minute switch to 2-2-2 777 from QSuite.

Got an a332 from ZNZ to DOH in Sept.. was switched from a 787... Actually looking forward to trying out this J product....did 18hrs to AKL.on the older 777 product and that was still a great flight
What if I told you, THAT A330 business class seat is an updated version of the one they had before? Back in economy, the IFE doesn’t even have touch screen capabilities and the LCD panel isn’t even IPS, so the viewing angle has to be direct or you won’t see a thing
Hi Paul. Great film again. I've just flown from Manchester to Bangkok return. I decided to fly with Qatar in the business class seats. I actually flew in 4 different aeroplanes. Manchester to Doha on the A777-300 (Q Suite, which is the best business seat product out there) and then Doha to Bangkok in the A380 sitting upstairs. Returning to the UK. Bangkok to Doha on the A330 and then Doha to Manchester on the A787 Dreamliner. I must say I totally agree with you regarding the 'unmentionable' A330 Business Class seat. The A330 seat layout of 2-2-2 was disappointing when compared to the other three aircraft. I'm a solo passenger and prefer a window seat with aisle access. You get that with the A777, A380 and the A787 You do not get that with the A330 You still have to ask your fellow passenger to move their feet, or step over them, in order for you to get out of your seat. With all the Qatar flights, the food is fabulous and the service on board is second to none. Also, like you mentioned, the lounge at Doha is amazing! However, I think I'll try the Finnair A350 next time I travel to Bangkok, which will be in November. I enjoyed your recent review on that one. Thanks for all your reviews, I watch them with great interest. Best wishes and keep going.
Another great video Paul, Doha looks a serious Impressive airport. I suppose I am a bit nerdy and would check their fleet on their website and on the day (I know it would be late) but I check flight radar, to see how old my aircraft is. However as you state most people would just turn up on the day.
I would say over 50% of all my many flights with Qatar had a last minute equipment change, this is more than enjoying, so much so that I try to avoid them whenever possible
I get frustrated by Qatar's last minute plane changes. I got on a flight from Melbourne to Doha (onward to LHR) in late May and it had gone from the Qsuites to a very very old product on their 777 - far older than the one you just flew on. For a 14h flight, it was incredibly disappointing - I didn't pay for a 2-2-2 set up, sitting next to a stranger, I paid for a Q-suite... Customer services on the ground are useless when you complain. However, the amazing in flight service made up for the change in hard product. I felt super bad for the FAs as so many people complained about the plane change. The perpetual changes, however, make me less likely to continue flying with Qatar which is a shame as when they get it right, the experience is just amazing
“I paid for a Qsuite…” Oh boy, ain’t that the truth! What a bugger! I was nervous right up to boarding at Melbourne that we too would have a change. Thankfully not.
I had a similar e experience flying out of Melbourne. Prior to the lockdowns I was a committed QR business class customer. But it’s surprising how consistently equipment changes are happening, and I think they might be missing the fact that people will start looking elsewhere as a result.
I too got the 777 2 2 2 set up. Perth to doha. Change of plane too from the qsuite I booked. Very disappointing 😞 . My flight from doha to Edinburgh much better
@@warwickhowland5816 I was the same on the return trip from LHR to MEL via Doha - thankfully everything went right that time, but I had really lost all trust with Qatar after my first flight....
Ok, for all the people asking about whether you pay for all of the facilities in the business class lounges, and whether the you pay for food and beverages - NO. In all business class lounges all facilities, food and beverages are free. Save for any special products like massages, pedicures, etc, everything else, even including the use of the pool and showers is all free. Everything you see food-wise, and drink-wise is completely free. Just like it is on the plane. Unlimited. That is why it's a business class. It moves you away from the hoi polloi, into an area of executive style comfort so that you can think and do some work. The airlines want you spending on business class and first class tickets, so they make the lounges comfortable with lots of offerings, to introduce you to spend the money on upgrades. Think of them as a loss leader. It also makes the business class upgrade price much more reasonable, especially if you use all of the facilities at both ends, including the showers, gyms, pools, food, multi course meals, cabineros, etc. You can eat and drink as much as you like, including the Champers and Liqueurs, Cocktails. Just like on the plane for the entire flight. You are buying exclusivity, so bear that in mind when you think about the price of the upgrade. Upgrade prices usually also allow you to change flights for free (say, taking the next flight if there is a seat available), and have some freedom rebooking or changing flights, and other full fare priveliges, like changing to a partner airline in an alliance. For example, myself and my family usually buy First Class tickets on American Airlines, as the tickets are usually slightly cheaper. But we almost always change over to BA First, as it is a much better quality product, with night staff, betterfood, unlimited beverages, and better lounges at either end. We can do this because they are alliance partners. We usually save around $3000 - $4000 by doing this for the 4 tickets. This is a worthwhile saving. We use Americana Vacations as the sales reps are really good at getting the best deals. We usually get car hire thrown in for free, because AV have their own privilege partners. $12,000 for the four tickets, instead of $16,000 makes much better value for money. This means we can go and visit my relatives in CT twice a year, instead of maybe only once, which is nice. I am a long time expat (since 87) living in Surrey, just south of London, with a British wife, and a couple of kids. And trust me it means a lot to me to be able to go back home every summer and Christmas to see my folks Stateside. Get to know all of the tricks, just like Paul has, and you will save yourself a fortune over a long period, especially if you have all of the advantage cards.
QR should provide a business class only mini bus to take business class passengers out, at least at that home airport. I can understand they can't do that at other stations, but no excuse for DOH. In any case, QR swapping the A330-200 to replace the 787-8 is still better CX swapping the long haul configured A330-300 with the regional configured A330-300 on one of my HKG-NRT red eye flight with them (pre-2020, that is), changing the 1-2-1 flat bed seat into a 2-2-2 recliner seat on the midnight departure. I never forgive them on that.
No, you will not be *compensated*. You can either cancel for a full refund - not really an option a day or two out from departure! You can reroute (to a flight you didn't want to take in the first place, at your own inconvenience), or fly somewhere within a 500 mile radius, again at your own inconvenience and additional expense.
Great review Paul. So glad I’m back to travel videos. ✈️ This Business Class does not win me over. Looks too squishy and confined. Thx for your honest thoughts. Appreciated.
Doesn’t seem like an airline I would choose for business class if they change the aircraft type and charge you the same. Going on these seats from a 787 to an a321 is a huge letdown. More like fraud. Thanks for the detailed review. Much appreciated.
Had this seat been on a European airline or a transcontinental flight on the US it would be given more praise. Shows the level of Qatar Airways in comparison to global airlines, and how good its best can be
Hey Paul. Loved the video. Curious with all the flying your doing, how are you finding flight changes? Cancellations? We are flying from Australia to Athens. And a few Europe flights in 6 weeks. Had 2 cancelled flights. Painful as meant changing accomodation in both locations. One carrier which shall remain nameless has change our flight time 6 times in 2 months. Then I'm reading about all the lost luggage. All makes me a bit nervous to be honest. Should have waited. Our crucial flight is the Perth to Singers leg and it's not filling me with confidence. But shall wait and see. Thanks Caz
Let's face it, it's super annoying if you've paid for biz, expecting the far superior hard product on the more modern plane types. But Qatar will keep doing it - I wonder what the formula is for which route gets what? - and passengers likely will still stick to them. Also, one issue that seldom gets mentioned is how lacking Qatar's customer service is (of course, not just theirs but still, that's no excuse).
I missed the business class lounge in both directions in doha.. due to late arrival of plane :( I got the 2 2 2 set up on a 12hr flight, even though the qsuite was booked 😢
I love the overnight either train 🚂 or plane ✈️ good value for a 4 1/2 hr flight. The dental kits are a good idea. Cheers Lynne Victoria Australia 🇦🇺🐨👍🏻😃
I'm 6ft 2in tall and would struggle to be comfy in this business class seat. Fare paid seemed reasonable. Food okay Thanks Paul for posting this video😀😀💚💚
We did this route in reverse around 5 years back and enjoyed the flight. Boarding at Athens was quite the experience and the amenity kit was pretty poor, but then its a short flight. Interestingly we got a bus when arriving in Doha but it was a special business class/first class bus with big comfy seats just for those in business class. That was pretty cool!
A while back all flights were on stands at Doha this before the great lounge opened for business, but business class and above were transferred by Mercedes Limo's. On one flight the change of flights was so tight we were bused to a small terminal on the airfield, it was just in, grab a coffee and out again.
On some (i don´t know how much) 777 is also the old business class and that will be changed on "Q-Suite" - flights. That is for me a reason not to book this airline anymore with this erratic hard product. We had the same on a very long flight and we were very disappointed.
First thing, yes please to the videos. I'm not sure I would like to play aircraft lucky dip when booking a flight. Qatar seems to have a reputation for equipment change so there is a fair chance you would not get what you booked. Especially if you were looking for a Q Suites seat for an overnight flight. Hopefully they will eventually get their schedule sorted out - it seems they are always one airplane short and playing catch-up. I wonder if this will change as the older aircraft get faded out. British Airways seems to manage it inspite of their wide bodies being a mix of Boeing and Airbus. Hopefully every Qatar wide body will eventually have Q Suites. How busy was the cabin Paul? Does the "United" cabin seat more than a Q Suites cabin?
Your video is very helpful, yesterday I received their email about changing the aircraft from 787 to a330 I paid for Q suite..they said Refund or change flight dates I dunno what do it’s very annoying I tried their q suite before and it was perfect to me Will never book a business ticket from Qatar Airways anymore. Stick with the economy at least u get what you paid for!!!
Good Day Paul......I'm new to your channel and have just Subscribed to your channel also.....enjoyed your review regarding this particular subject with Qatar Airlines.....hoping to see a review from you if or when you're flying to and from the Philippines back to London as I'm based here in the Philippines and will be traveling back to London in the near future. Stay safe always and God Bless.
While people are constantly raving about Qatar, I don't fly with them anymore. They have too many different products and many a times last minute aircraft changes. The inconsistencies are just terrible.
5:42 who wants more train videos on the channel, my answer yes please Paul. I expect the lime and mintdepends a lot on how sharpe the lime juice is that is used and if it is fresh or bottled. I suppose.
In all honesty, no airline promotes their outdated products which are to leave their fleet in a not too distant future anyway. That said, if you book Q suite, and you get this, there would/should be some kind of compensation for it. And maybe there is for the one who contacts QR about it afterwards?
There is, unequivocally, *no compensation* offered for having this turn up on you on the day of travel when QSuite was advertised. Qatar only offers a full refund and outright cancellation, or rerouting within 500 miles (the remaining distance is at your expense, naturally), or a postponement to a date on which QSuite is (or might be, anyway,) operating. Again that postponement of your holiday or trip will be at your own expense.
I think they should at least refurbish the 787s. I get why they aren't retrofitting other fleets: they don't plan on keeping their A330s, 777-300ERs, and A380s for long, and they are not satisfied with their A350 paint, but their 787-8s? Even though they are not a fan of the Charleston built 787s, they vowed to only take Everett 787s, therefore it can be assumed that all of their 787s with the old bsuiness class are from Everett, so if they don't have beef with those planes and if they don't plan on retiring them, they should at least retrofit those 787-8s

That's not how it's pronounced in British English, so no - would be pretty gauche to do that seeing as we don't even pronounce Paris as the French do.

Got an a332 from ZNZ to DOH in Sept.. was switched from a 787...
Actually looking forward to trying out this J product....did 18hrs to AKL.on the older 777 product and that was still a great flight
It's odd isn't it? Priority boarding means first on the bus, and first on the bus means last off the bus!
Lime and mint ??? 🤔
I think you may find Lamb and mint go together better!! 🤣
You don't get into the Lounge with the new Business lite fares so it is slightly less accessible than before.
Yes more train videos! Thank you Paul.
What if I told you, THAT A330 business class seat is an updated version of the one they had before?
Back in economy, the IFE doesn’t even have touch screen capabilities and the LCD panel isn’t even IPS, so the viewing angle has to be direct or you won’t see a thing
I would like to see more train video on this channel. Thanks for asking
You got it!
You get that with the A777, A380 and the A787
You do not get that with the A330
You still have to ask your fellow passenger to move their feet, or step over them, in order for you to get out of your seat.
Finnair has a beautiful business class offering. However the attention to service is not at the Qatar level.
The seats also look the same on AAs transcons JFK-LAX/SFO/SNA that are part of its J cabin in a 2-2 configuration on a A321.
Yes, I want more train videos on the channel as yours are amongst the best :D 5:44
It should be a requirement that all airport lounges have a foosball table.
Another great video Paul, Doha looks a serious Impressive airport. I suppose I am a bit nerdy and would check their fleet on their website and on the day (I know it would be late) but I check flight radar, to see how old my aircraft is. However as you state most people would just turn up on the day.
Thanks for the video Mate.
The old " Air guitar " 😂 looks great...
Amazing video Paul!
It’s happened to me doha-Milan …Paris-Doha (two times),,,, Doha-Frankfurt,,, Kuwait-Doha ,,, so Qatar airways trap 👎🏻
Thanks for this vlog. Safe travels. Have an amazing week. Ciao.
Doesn't Qatar now offer Qsuite protection, where if you book Q-suite and it gets changed for an inferior product then you are compensated?
No, you will not be *compensated*. You can either cancel for a full refund - not really an option a day or two out from departure! You can reroute (to a flight you didn't want to take in the first place, at your own inconvenience), or fly somewhere within a 500 mile radius, again at your own inconvenience and additional expense.
@@Paul_Lucas wow that is really poor from QR. I wouldn't book a bis flight with them for this.
Great review Paul. So glad I’m back to travel videos. ✈️ This Business Class does not win me over. Looks too squishy and confined. Thx for your honest thoughts. Appreciated.
Thank you for the video!
Yes to more train videos!
Doesn’t seem like an airline I would choose for business class if they change the aircraft type and charge you the same. Going on these seats from a 787 to an a321 is a huge letdown. More like fraud. Thanks for the detailed review. Much appreciated.
Who wants more train videos on this channel? I do. Sign me up. Thanks, Paul!
Normally they have separate business class busses. Don’t know why not now
Had this seat been on a European airline or a transcontinental flight on the US it would be given more praise. Shows the level of Qatar Airways in comparison to global airlines, and how good its best can be
Would be great if you could do a video about your credit cards etc and any tips for boosting points etc
I love your vids Paul
Thanks Caz
Absolutely beautifully filming capturing lovely content vloggs keep it up millions thanks for sharing Merci
there is still one tier down in their business class and that's their narrow body fleet which isn't even angled flat
I've never sat in business class at all because it cost lots of money to sit in that area
Bizarre that Qatar still has half the seats in the terminal blocked off but then they cram everyone into a bus!
Haven't you heard? You can't get COVID in the bus if there's no room for the virus to squeeze in!
Great vlog as always! I have only flow QR once! That was the day Europe closed…. DOH-ARN onboard A7-AEH.
I would be interested to see more train trip reports on this channel 🙂
Never been so early, Paul I love your videos and I hope one day I can do what you do 😊❤️
Great video Paul
I missed the business class lounge in both directions in doha.. due to late arrival of plane :(
I got the 2 2 2 set up on a 12hr flight, even though the qsuite was booked 😢
Great video as always.
I love the overnight either train 🚂 or plane ✈️ good value for a 4 1/2 hr flight. The dental kits are a good idea. Cheers Lynne Victoria Australia 🇦🇺🐨👍🏻😃
Great video Paul 👍🏻
Great video! Why is it Hamad International has so many remote gates? Are they currently expanding?
Thanks Paul💟
It was kinda interesting when I was heading home to Toronto on 787 they changed it to an 330 that evening
Great adventures! Love them all, especially the airport lounges.
4:32 - what's that? Some years ago, Qarar Airways had extra buses for Business Class passengers. When did they discontinue this feature?
No they didn't - in fact I got one when I landed at DOH on the inbound leg, but no idea what happened there.
Most likely they are running these because of the A350 issue. Once it's resolved these will probably be replaced.
Thanks for the great content
I'm 6ft 2in tall and would struggle to be comfy in this business class seat. Fare paid seemed reasonable. Food okay
Thanks Paul for posting this video😀😀💚💚
I prefer 2-2-2 business class. Especially, I am happy to sit in the old business class of QR B777, very comfortable and spacious.
More train videos wouldn't go amiss
Their 777 that were sourced from Cathay Pacific still retain the Cathay seats and interior colors. Give it a try ;)
This is still better than Emirates’s newest business class seats, NO middle seats!
yes that was a bizarre choice by them!
Your video is very helpful, yesterday I received their email about changing the aircraft from 787 to a330
I paid for Q suite..they said Refund or change flight dates
I dunno what do it’s very annoying
I tried their q suite before and it was perfect to me
Will never book a business ticket from Qatar Airways anymore. Stick with the economy at least u get what you paid for!!!
Yes please to more train videos on the channel! (Saw your message at 5:44!)
Bye
@@AAL-mu8ms Thank goodness, Bye with Qatar for a really long time already. 🤣🤣
@@LC-zi8jw No idea what you're on about, not sure what's so funny?. You might want to work on your grammar, that was a pathetic attempt. Tut tut
5:42 who wants more train videos on the channel, my answer yes please Paul. I expect the lime and mintdepends a lot on how sharpe the lime juice is that is used and if it is fresh or bottled. I suppose.
Looked like a good seat and good to me.
Yo. I want more train videos on the channel. Trains rock!
Nice flight report.
I do wish people would stop comparing European airlines with oil rich, state funded Middle Eastern airlines.
Shame about ‘face nappies’, however the standard is amazing!
That huge stuffed animal at the airport is still very creepy looking.
